That sounds dope brotha ! Wish I could get away with running straight pipes out here in LA 😢 currently working on one and i was searching for a video to just see where a couple wires get plugged in since I’ve had the intake manifold apart for a couple months. I’m about to get this thing fired up once im done drooling over these sound clips 😁

A muffler and res delete is the first thing I did when I got my 540/6 I kept the cats and it sounds just as insane
I believe it but cats restrict horsepower so thats why i eliminate them off all my vehicles

I'm looking into doing the secondary cats delete on my 01 540i/6. I'm wondering what did you do with the O2 sensors before the cats after the header. Did you leave them where they are or got rid of them? Your 540 sounds great!
Currently they are plugged in but not in the exhaust system so i have them fastened to floor of car still plugged in but be aware they get very hot
That sounds angry as F!@K! Love it! However, I doubt it's easy to live with as a daily driver. I daily drive a e39 535i (3.5lt v8, don't think you guys got them stateside.), just swapping the factory rear muffler for a Remus sports muffler gave it a much better exhaust note, and not too loud at low speeds or highway cruising. How did you end up going with the noise, as it's a year and a bit on since you posted this?
I only did this for video purposes lol i only drove it straight piped for a few days i now have a thrush muffler on it sounds nice

How’s the drone at highway speeds? My 540 has a muffler delete, and it sounds sick under load but I want something a bit more aggressive.

When you gutted the cats, did you get check engine light? What did you do about the o2 sensors ?
Leave them plugged in and zip tie to the floor of car not in the exhaust system... the idea is to let 02 sensor breathe fresh air

Yes primary cats are gutted we dont have smog in nova scotia
Sounds great! But correct me if I'm wrong but it's not a "full straight pipe", the primary cats are part of the headers on the vanos 540s

I usually only get pops and bangs doing hard shifts around 5000 rpm

Did you leave the o2 primary cat sensors in after gutting?
They are plugged in but not in the exhaust system I put them under the cover where the plug is
How did you gut the cats? Also did you notice a loss of low end torque? Sounds bad ass.
I used a long drill bit on the front cats and no more power bottom to top of the rpm range car breathes so much better

When you unbolt exhaust below primary cats a 12 inch long bit does the job... do not breathe the dust in as it falls out
