That very river itself is where I fell in love with fly fishing. It’s such an incredible and special place. I’m lucky to have it practically in my back yard. ❤ Wonderful video!
Thank you Nathan! That’s awesome, it’s one of my favorite places to fish! I hope we run into each other out on the river!
I know where you live
@@Ragnar918i know what you did last summer
That’s awesome.. I’m in New Mexico and I love it here too.. we’ve got some beautiful places! The “San Jaun river” is gorgeous.. I would like my ashes there one day in the quality waters.
@@BadCompany410Hell yeah
That makes so much sense. Thanks for the quick tutorial!
You’re welcome glad you liked it! 😀
“ indubitably”.. 👍🏽🤠 God bless live well and be safe..! I’m with you 100% I was actually rolling it to the side! Actually going in a 3/4 circle! I’ve got it pretty good I get it where I want it but I’ll be darned if I knew it was that easy and that much more accurate! Love fly fishing but you really gotta learn first! Spent my first year without a bite. I was using what looked cool. I’ve written pamphlets on bait fishing. Never used a fly! Now days those suckers have no chance! I make leather lutes I’m trying to get out to be sold too.. God bless be safe out there!
As a true beginner thank you for this.
You’re welcome!
Thank you, suscribed. I just caught my first to rainbows fly fishing. Loving it so far. I've been fishing since I was a kid
You’re welcome, that’s awesome, thanks for subscribing!
Love it. Gonna use this trick on the tight rivers with no space to cast from behind due to brush
Awesome, it helps a lot and you won’t get your line snagged on trees or bushes as much! 👍🏻
. So do roll casts😂
Old man was teaching me to full vast. I showed him a roll cast and he was like “dang you got a good roll cast
Thats awesome!
Now that’s some good intel! I’m still learning and that roll cast would work great in my local creek. Thanks for putting this out!!!
You’re welcome! I’m still working on perfecting it myself!
I've been fly fishing from time to time (mostly in the spring for trout and fall for steelhead).. I have never really tried "learning" much coming from spinner/baitcaster fishing.. This helps a ton. Especially fishing mostly in smaller streams where there isn't much space behind
Awesome! I use it a lot in this tight creeks and smaller streams. Good luck!
Great video on how to do the roll cast! Thanks
Thanks!
I learned it from this video! Thanks
Awesome! I hope it helps you catch some fish!😀
Good video. Different perspectives perfect.
Thank you!
Yeah that’s the one I was looking for as I fish a little river in my local area and always something that is behind catching trees and weeds so head melting 🫠
Great, yeah snagging a tree or bush is no fun! Good luck!
This was so helpful great stuff 👍
Thank you so much! It means a lot to hear that it was helpful!
Thanks! Help a lot when fishing with a lot of brush.
You’re welcome, yes it does
Nice!
Thank you!
Nice clear vid. Thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks for your kind comment.
Need to add this to the arsenal
Nice bro appreciate
Thank you!
Good idea
Thanks
Thanks I live in tight casting conditions
You’re welcome I hope it helps you catch more fish!
Great tip tyvm👍
You’re welcome! 👍🏻
Thanks for this, just got done spin cast fishing over in the Driftless region of wisconsin and got absolutely skunked. Was considering learning to fly fish after that. This might very well help with that 👍
You’re welcome! Fly fishing is a lot of fun, I definitely recommend giving it a try. Best of luck!
@@renegadeflyfishing do you do alot of small creek fishing? If so, any tips and advice for them? I live pretty far away from good trout fishing country, so my best options near me are usually pretty narrow creeks
@@terrykrugii5652 Yeah I do a bit of fishing on small streams and when I do I use my 7' 3 Wt fly rod. That helps me from getting tangled as often and the rod is easier to wield in the tight spaces, and I'm usually not casting that far. Another unorthodox trick I've used it to take my leader off and tie on some tippet material directly to the end of my fly line about 3' to 4' with a blood knot. Just be careful not to trim off your fly line. Iv'e found I need to be a little more sneaky when fishing the small creeks because the fish seam to be a little more skittish. Hope that helps! Good luck!
@@terrykrugii5652 Oh and sometimes using the Bow and Arrow cast can help get the fly where you need it.
Man you know this whole time for years I’ve actually been doing that but trying to roll it. I actually got it pretty good but the right way seems way easier.. thanks for this! 👍🏽🤠
Hey you’re welcome! That’s cool you figured it out naturally too!
@@renegadeflyfishing thanks much appreciated.. hey my boy and I carve lures and bobbers from wood and cork.. he does a bunch of video game and cartoon characters. Mostly bobbers. I’m doing some bass poppers now. By chance do you have any tips on catching bass an easy way. Doing a rig with some kind of work a little above the weight works excellent! Almost a 100% when the fish are there. Not so good with a fly pole due to the weight and casting. I want my kids to feel the bass.. I know they keep on it they’ll get ‘‘em but with bait I’m already writing a little pamphlet on fishing. I’ve got a few ways that seem to work 9 out of 10.. I’d love to market the whole thing but all these people want to scam me. There’s one I started with and I’m just waiting to see it in stores. Anyway any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated.. God bless and stay safe out there!!! Yup looking for the easiest way for kids to catch bass on a fly pole.. “PLEASE”🤠👍🏽
My go to cast
Nice, it’s very helpful!
Beautiful roll cast
Thank you!
Lol. Push out 80 ft. That’s a short roll
Merci 🎉 for the Education !!!!!
You’re welcome!
Can you “lay your rod down” to the side in case the trees are in the way? I’m new so I’m just trying to get an idea on how to fish the tight creeks 😅
I’ve never tried it. Not sure if it would work. I’ll have to give it a shot and let you know.
how does that work when roll casting from downstream to up stream across your body?
Great question I’ll make a video and post it showing what I do.
The water was like "Massah!"
You're bringing the rod tip too low on the forward stroke. That's why the line is landing first and the fly last. Stop the rod tip at about ten o'clock and the line will straighten in the air, then fall parallel to the surface.
Thank you! I will give that a try!
Do you haul while roll casting?
No, I either pinch the fly line against the rod or leave it tight on the rod.
Cool
Thanks!
Whippin it
Oh yeah
Was trying to figure out how the hell people fish smaller creeks with theses. Makes sense now. Think I'm going to use my work points to order a fly setup.
Right on! What fly rod are you looking at buying?
@@renegadeflyfishing probably the orvis Clearwater 5wt 9'.
I did this on accident and called it the sharpshooter
That’s awesome!
As a gunsmith and a Marine, I like that name. I'm just going to call it that.
Was this on the red deer river? Or where was it. Thanks
This is on the gunnison river in Colorado
I can’t cast good when it’s windy
Yeah the wind makes it tough!
I really regret not getting into fly fishing when I was younger 😞😞😞
It’s never to late!
I do this but it ends up laying in a pile
Do you leave some line laying on the water, before you cast forward?
@renegadeflyfishing kinda, mostly I'm just practicing with no extra line out sometimes with but I have a hard time holding my (ring/middle) finger to the pole to hold the line
I've only been fly fishing for a year now
Is this Wyoming?
It’s in Colorado
Is that the virgin river
No, it’s the Gunnison river
Does this work with bamboo, too?
I’ve never tried it with bamboo but it should work.
Yeah but you have to get your line all the way out there first to begin with so that means you had to have room to cast it to begin with
Somehow big streamers don't roll that nice .
Have you tried using a single handed spey cast? It’s more dynamic. But with similar benifits of the roll cast.
😮
Learn how to single hand spey cast. It will Super charge your roll cast!!!
I’m going fishing in the morning and I’ll give it a try! Thanks for the recommendation!
Litteraly doesnt work for me idk why
Keep at it and you’ll get it, it helps to have a good bit of your line out on the water holding some surface tension on your line! Good luck 👍🏻
Anyone spot the ufo
Learn how to Spey cast with a single handed rod, that will Super-charge your roll cast!!!
Thanks I just recent learned of the single hand spey cast and have been practicing it. Looking forward to using it to catch a fish! Thanks for the recommendation.
This is pretty simple everyone. If your a fly angler and can't roll cast then your in trouble. I prefer a slightly different technique both back/front roll cast but pretty good from you
Do you use the one handed Spey cast?
Doesn't that scare the fish more
It can if you cast over top of them, but what you try to do is to cast a little bit up stream and then let your fly drift down with the current towards the fish. 👍🏻
Doesn’t work for me I’m using a 9’ rod with an Orvis Battenkill reel I can’t roll cast to save my life :(
Keep practicing and you’ll be able to get it! 😀
Actually you shouldn’t make an arc with the rod then the line will be completely in the air
The rod tip shall stay high
*promo sm* 😁
No thanks
How much leader lime should I have ?
Hi Connor, I use a 7-9’ leader and use about 18” of tippet depending on the situation.
