What do you prefer at Eurovision: English songs or National Language songs?
It depends of the genre of the song but I generally prefer national language
Depends on the songs usually, but usually National language. I like to have a few English songs every year tho so I can sing along 😂😂
Mostly national
I think they should have, maybe for a year or two, a ‘No English Allowed’ policy, just to get a taste of some more languages (including Gaelic 😂)
Potpuno svejedno! 🌹❤️🧡💛🔆🔅🔆🔅
Just keep in mind: there will be Germans turning 18 during the next year who never experienced their country sending a song in their language (which is based on native speakers one of the most common languages in Europe)
But luckily, there's a neighbour that's helping out with a few words. Naoberschap! :-)
In sweden there might be one great great grandma somewhere that remembers our last swedish song
Sadly, german is not the best to sing with. We have the same problem in 🇨🇭..
This year they had a chance to sing a good dance song in German - “Ich kündige”. It's a pity that the group refused to apply for participation :(
i’m irish, i’m 16, and haven’t seen my country send a language in Gaeilge. My dream is to one day represent Ireland (Éire) 🇮🇪 at Eurovision and sing in Gaeilge
Italy: sings in national language, gets good results. Spain: sings in national language, gets bad results. Sweden: sings in english, gets good results. Germany: sings in english, gets bad results.
Portugal: sings in national language, gets good and bad results
you forgot France sending an entry completely in Breton in 2022
Unfortunately France only recognizes French as it's national language even though also Breton, Dutch, German, Basque, Occitan, Arpitan, Catalan, Corsican and many more languages are spoken there.
@@durfalSimilar to Morocco & Algeria. A lot of people there speak French very well but they only recognize Arabic & Tamazight as official languages
If sending songs in your co-official languages was a crime, I’m pretty sure Spain and the UK would be criminals
I think you worded that wrong
I naturally tried to read it like the song 😭
But would they be locked up for life?
Let the singers reply: They will never break us down!
The last entry completely in German is twelve years ago.😢 And over 100 million people speak this language.
Austria 2012?
@@thales- Yes
meanwhile me a Notth German wo can understand "Europapa" but not "Woki mit deim Popo" 😭
@@monkey_8227 Yeah, Woki mit deim Popo is not even standard German.
@@KuschelziegeNuri was it an Austrian dialect, right?
I think the beginning is pretty confusing : you show languages that didn't appear, but put a random song in English the country sent to ESC. I spent a whole 2 minutes wondering when Belgium added English to their official languages x')
😂 I'm confused too, and I thought it would be one song for every country that last sang in their language
I believe in a given fragment Vesna speaks Ukrainian(song features Bulgarian, Czech, English, Ukrainian). To showcase the Czech language the beginning of the song should be shown instead.
Yes, you're right
Meanwhile Hebrew and Greek are in this video twice
Every official language
@@user-fo4gt3zz4l But for Greece it appears Greek for 2018 and 2024 and I think for Israel the same happens with Hebrew
@@sevendustPT He put Israel cuz Arabic
@@johansans8296 2014 for Hebrew and 2024 for Hebrew; and considering how little it takes to be considered, 2018 and 2021 should count as Hebrew.
True, I noticed Hebrew, but I didn't notice Greek.
The Konstra and Vesna outro is everything
Greece 2018 shouldn't be un the video now
Cuz there’s 2024 also in this list
Israel 2014 as well
Czechia in 2023 really had a part of the song in Czech, but not the part you put in this video. This part ''Sestro krasyva...'' (the chorus) is in Ukrainian. Czech language was from the very beginning of the song.
RIP Roger Cicero 😢 wasn’t a huge fan of his Eurovision song but he was really talented and his death came so suddenly. I know there are probably others in this list who’ve passed but I believe he was the most recent. Also, Slovakia, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Andorra, please come back! We miss you!
Fun fact: The song "Duje" was performed in the Gheg variety of the Albanian language, the mother tongue of Kosovo, where Albina and the Kelmendi family come from. The majority variety of Albanian is Tosk (the "official Albanian language"), and it was presented for the last time in 2022, with "Sekret" (along with English and Spanish)... Blessings and greetings from Venezuela!!!!
Not relevant for this video since those are different dialects
@@Idk-qs4nr Exactly, this is the reason made my commentary too relevant.
The last time Sweden sent a Eurovision entry in Swedish was the year I was born. I expect the next one to be the year I die. (Yes, this is based on the Mark Twain prediction about Halley's Comet.) Also, the only Eurovision entry in Swedish during my lifetime (so far) was sent by Finland in 2012, the year the world was supposedly going to end.
So if one day I'll see a swedish entry in their actual language again, then rip
I mean… Sámi would count for Norway as well considering the ones included afterwards 😅
2:33: Fun Fact: 2019 was the SECOND time there was a Greenlandic-Language entry at DMGP. The first was in 1979.
Greek & Hebrew were featured twice?
Noticed that too. Also, Doomsday Blue had Aramaic
@@cailieisidro5758 Lol, since when is Aramaic a national language of Ireland :)
@@cailieisidro5758 That‘s not an official language of ireland
mistake
The great thing about Woki mit deim popo is that isn't just german but also dialect! So it really showcases the countries language and how german has many many varieties!
Mattis Hætta sang on Norway's entry in 1980 with the song sámi ædnan. Joik is a form of singing in Sámi. You rarely use the Sámi words if you sing in Sámi.
United kingdom always send song in their national language 🎉🎉
Welsh? Cornuoll? Scott Gaelic?
Cymraeg? Kernowek? Scottish Gaelic? Scots? Ulster Scots? Ulster Irish? Manx?
9:47 Erm, actually, that is tecnically ukrainian, even though that song does have some parts in czech.
tbh, there was some Latvian in 2014 and in 2023 :)
I was thinking about that one, Latvia 2023 has more than a few words in Latvian, and yet it's not here ;(
Sorry but it's kinda funny how you chose the Ukrainian part of My Sister's Crown to show Czech language
Same with the English part of the German song 😂🙈
At first I didnt understand the video but I get it now😂. Its good
Sad fact: Sweden is the Only Northern European country that hasn't returned to their native language after the language rule was dropped. Sometimes, they'll even change the Swedish-language winner of Melodifestivalen to English for the ESC! 😵💫
It’s hilarious that the last time Swedish was in Eurovision, it was Finland who sung it and now the last country to sing German in over a decade is the Netherlands
Austria sending Woki Mit Deim Popo as their last German song is iconic🤩
Plus it's the last German song being performed on Eurovision
Good video overall, just two mistakes I saw. You included greece with greek twice, 2018 and 2024, and Israel with hebrew, 2014 and 2024
Riva and Rock Me are Croatian...
Great video, just a little correction 4:01 this is serbian language. I know that in Yugoslavia they forced the so called "serbo-croatian", but in 1992 Croatia was already an independent country so the forced idea of the "serbo-croatian" already went extinct in 1992 + that song is really sang in 100% clear serbian language.
thank for telling!
You forget Samogitian, Võro, Breton, Pontic Greek, Alemannic German... 🤔
France had a song in Breton in 2022!
8:59 I think there's a bit of Italian in the live version of the song this year, not sure if that counts
Sweden hasn't sent a song in Swedish after 1998, that is, after the language rule was gone. Interestingly, all my favourite entries from Sweden are from the era before 1999.
The fact, they almost sent a song in Swedish this year... (Medina - Qué Será)
@@SilversonXmusic Yeah, I really had a hope that they will do it this year at least but...
Stad I Ljus is the best
It's a real shame that Celtic languages are so under-represented. As a Welshman, I'd love to see the UK send an entry in Welsh. We also have Gaelic, Cornish, Manx and Irish to choose from. Maybe one day... Interesting vid though. 👍
maybe someday!
What about Frisian for the Netherlands. Never a song in Frisian, but it deserves a mention, though. And what about Breton for France, featured by Alvan & Ahez's song Fulenn in 2022
Frankrijk heeft maar één officiële landstaal: het Frans. (Las ik zojuist op wikipedia, ik dacht namelijk eerst ook aan Fulenn)
Interesting to note that all the Irish-language songs are at the JESC more often.
Can I just point out that the bit you showed of ‘My Sister’s Crown’ was actually in Ukrainian and the main bit of Czech is actually in the intro of the song
Didn't Malta send 'Desire' in 2000 with a line or two in Maltese before the 2nd verse?
Greek appears twice (2018 & 2024) And Hebrew appears twice (2014 & 2024)
Kinda hilarious that Estonias Eurovision song title never fits or looks so odd and out of palce.
Great video, I really enjoyed it! Just a quick question, I understand that you didn't want to include all official languages in Russia, but maybe you could have included Udmut in 2012, since it was so successful.
it‘s so funny to me that woki mit deim popo is considered german, when it really is in a heavy upper austrian dialect 😂
cyprus national language isnt turkish bro
I just got an advert of Luna singing ‘The Tower’ 🥹
she is lurking in almost every ytb video, I get that advert everyday a few times, classic or acoustic version..now I'm sick of it haha
I can't believe Spain has never sent a song in Catalan
The criminal and racist spanish government hates Catalonia because they want to get independence, so they'll never send a song in Catalan.
Being Catalonia the stadistically worst considered region so far for Spaniards according surveys just makes a song in Catalan unlikely to be voted for representing Spain (unless someone could take the decision without being voted)
10:06: Huh. "La La La" means the same thing in Armenian as it does in English!
I love these videos! ❤
❤️
how is it the Uk having 11 official languages?? I think they have 4
Israëls song this year has Hebrew, but you also put 2012 as the last time they had Hebrew in the song
I dont understand, Why Spain is from 70s? They sang in Spanish last year?
It was for basque
um
Russia has 35 official languages? The UK has 11? WTF?????????
Marina is singing all the song in Greek except few words, isn't it?
0:57 This song is heard in Prison Break when Sucre is singing and shouting to them
Het Fries, een officiële landstaal van Nederland, is jammer genoeg óók nog nooit gebruikt.
It’s actually sad that Ireland and Malta sang in their own language last time over 50 years ago.
Ireland should have sent their runner-up this year (Ailsha) She was really awesome😭
99% of Irish people speak English as their first language so of course we sing in English. It is one of the official languages
@@zavo1287 sadly you didn't send Ailsha because actually she would send a good message
So proud of all the countries who send songs in their own languages 😊.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but one milkali is also the first time Australia sang in their true native language... Even though it's just one word
In the European part of the Netherlands there are two official languages; Dutch & Frisian. If you count the whole Kingdom of the Netherlands, there are more: Dutch, Frisian, Papiamento & English. There's also Dutch Sign Language.(NGT) The Netherlands should, according to the EU, do more for some minority languages like Lower-Saxon, Limburgish & Sinti-Romanes.(romani) Unfortunately we have only sent songs in Dutch & English. I loved that we sent one with some Sranantongo, even with the horrid backlash that it brought because apparently people cannot listen to the lyrics... But i really want us to send a song in Papiamento & one in Frysk.
uhh belgium isn't right
which video editor do you use?
Camtasia Studio, Photoshop and Keynote
I find it interesting that the last song in swedish was by Finland
Awesome video Samuel!! I think there were some Arabic words too in Israel's song in 2020.
🫶🏽
Tf do u mean belgium never sang in their national language and claims it german??? We got 3..
watch the video again
uhmm why is greece 2018? zari doesnt count or what
you forgot about two performances in Russian from Russia: in 1994 “Eternal Wanderer” with “Judif” and “T.A.T.u.” in 2003 I’m just confused in the video, it seems like the LATEST speeches in official languages, and it seems like some countries with the same language are flashed several times
The last entry in russian was Russian woman, that's correct. These languages shown twice but for different countries I guess
@@lorilei8535 yes, i know that Russian woman was the last Russians performance, but your explanation is not correct because there was Spain twice time and Yugoslavia too with the same languages
ngl, especially for france and italy, it would me MORE interesting to know when they last sung in anything other than their national languages
Where is Cleo ,, My Słowianie wiemy jak,,? She is singing in Polish
Australia only some words in this language lmao
Greece liteally sings in greek this year
I didn’t know Morocco participated as well. When they don’t anymore?
I believe they got offended they didnt score well and just never participated again. Thats the story i heard
@@FinestFantasyVII also don't think they want to participate because of Israel

Sweden ...
Sweden sent song in Swedish last time in 1998?!
You had two Israel songs both in Hebrew 2024 and 2014??
mistake
You forgot Monegasque. Monaco has never sent an entry in the Monegasque language. And Georgia 2019 also has Abkhaz in it. Why is Greece and Israel (Hebrew) twice in this video?
Israel: Hebrew and Greece: Greek both have duplicate entries
Most of these are dialects, not languages
LANGUAGES, LANGUAGES NOT DIALECTS😭
greece 2024 is greek
You'll have to remove Australia completely, as it doesn't have an official language.
i know, thats why i included both
Why greece 2018? 2024 fully greek
There are verses saying English like; ” Hey, I'm gonna do it my way ” or. ” Put your hands up. ”
mistake!
WTF JUST HAPPENED AT 6:53
what happened
@@escsamuel i heard a very weird sound
In Cyprus they speak Greek no Turkish
Half the Island speaks Turkish and is also an official language of Cyprus. (even though the Turkish speaking population lives in the not recognized country of Northern Cyprus)
@@durfal Cyprus had only greek speakers until Turks few years ago invaded (least than) half of the country. The contestants that are sent from Cyprus to Eurovision are always from the greek side and a lot of them are actually 100% greek. Also if you have noticed they always give Greece 12 points, this is because they are from the Greek side. If they were from the Turkish side they wouldnt give even 1 point.
@@IridaMarina We all know that. This video is about sending songs in the national languages of a country. The country of Cyprus has two national languages. Greek AND Turkish. Whatever the politics or giving points are doesn't matter. It is obvious that Cyprus won't send a song in Turkish. But it still has to be mentioned that Cyprus didn't send a song in 1 of their national languages. Thats what this video is about. No politics whatsoever
@@durfal well for me being Greek and having family in Cyprus I find it a bit insulting that the language that this video shows as the official language of Cyprus is the Turkish, the language of the invadors. Anyways
@@IridaMarina The invasion was off course bad. But the Rep of Cyprus had Turkish speakers (around 18% before the invasion, the rest came only when the Northern part became Turkish). And because they don't recognize the Turkish Cypriotic republic they still have it as 1 of their national languages. So Cyprus was twice in the video, once for Turkish (0 entries) and once for Greek. Just like other countries with multiple national languages. Like I said before this video is only about national languages. Rep of Cyprus still has Turkish next to Greek as an official language. If you don't like it go talk to the Cypriot government.
MANESKIN .....ITALIAN AS A LANGUAGE OF ROCK.🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹

It’s a mistake, thanks for telling anyways.
belgium is not german 😭😭😭 it’s french and Holland
Belgium has 3 official languagnes, Dutch, French and German.
I'm sorry. Spain in 1973? Are you kidding me? Most of Spanish songs have been in Spanish. Including last year's song. So the last time they sang in Spanish is 2023.
Let me tell you that the video is right: - First of all, the language that it mentions is Basque, one of the 4 official languages in Spain. - Now, Mocedades is a music band that was born in the Basque Country, one of the 17 autonomous communities in Spain, and its co-official language with Spanish is Basque. - And, if you keep watching, Spanish is gonna be mentioned in 10:35 with "Zorra" the Spanish entry for 2024. I hope I solved your problem :)
You didnt even saw the full video The language that is mentioned with spain 1973 is basque the spanish one is mentioned with this years entry
I don't understand this video at all. How is City Lights by Blanche in native language? Or Waterloo? Stronger every minute? It's all in English
