Zippo Lighter Restoration, Vietnam War MEDIC Repair - Ba Ria 72-73
Zippo lighter restoration from The Vietnam war Ba Ria Post year 1972-1973. Today I restore and repair an awesome lighter from Vietnam with a Red Cross combat MEDIC badge attached to is.
This Zippo lighter is a metal detector ground found from Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in Vietnam. It has been partially buried in mud and sand when he found it. It was sent to me by one of my metal detector friends from Vietnam.

RESTORATION PROCESS
I always start with WD40 rust remover. Just to loosen things up. The inner case was stuck in the zippo bottom case as usual, so I was forced to use fire and a hammer to loosen those two parts from each other. I washed inner/outer case in soap and alcohol and found some beautiful inscriptions on the lighter.
The inside case was damaged, so I had to repair it with a little heat treatment. I used the home-made mini tumbler (as usual) to clean the small parts. I cleaned the inside lighter case in the sandblaster with low air pressure and I used white virgin aluminium oxide.
I heat treated the inside Zippo case to achieve a beautiful brown Matt army color. I polished the case and lid to mirror blank and added the Red Cross combat medic badge.
INSCRIPTION ON THE LIGHTER
The inscription on the lighter is

i like your videos
Dude. Really enjoy your videos. However, they are becoming quite repetitive. All you seem to do now is restore old lighters. Ever try restoring something else. I would love so see you restore something like an old knife, gun, old machine. Or something other than lighters.
Oh cool

The text says “WAR STOP PEOPLE SO WHY DON’T PEOPLE STOP WAR”. A strong statement.
WARS STOP PEOPLE SO WHY DON’T PEOPLE STOP WAR (Or WAR STOPS PEOPLE SO WHY DON’T PEOPLE STOP WAR)
If anybody can understand it.....and we can put our ego's aside.
that is sad bc he probaly die in a war that he dont want
True that
Ironic how the guy who owned the zippo went to war though. One way to stop them is to refuse to fight them.

Yep, I’ve got a Zippo lighter that I found while in the US Marines. I was sleeping on the floor at an airport during a flight layover, on my way to a duty station. I woke up and saw it under a bench or something, it was brushed gold… I put it in my pocket and always carried it with me during the remainder of my service, I still have it now. I think it’s actually one of the few things is still have from my time in the service. Hmm, good memories, thanks for this video! Semper Fi
thanks a lot Stephen for your comment what a nice found :)
I suspect these restore videos are rigged. They just put the object in a corrosive substance, and then sell it like a repair. At least some of them
*The lighter is in good shape* Lighter looks like it fought the war too
😂😂
It was used as a mini flame thrower
it’s in good shape for how long it’s been there lmao
Não entendi!
It was detained for 5 years along with a green beret in a tiger cage deep in the jungles near the Ho Chi Minh trail
"War stops people so why don't people stop war" God bless and rest in peace to whoever owned that lighter
Because War is nothing but a Business. The corporations who make weapons have to sell them all to someone so if not sold to the US they'll make and sell them in Russia, Korea, Iran there is always a buyer for them but even worse theres always a leader who'll use them too. Sick truth of it all here. I used to work for a corp that made them here in USA!
So think how many times have yoi seen people being bullied or shoved around or worse someone steal from another? Small things start wars.
@@harryballz6358 weaponry need not be high tech that Era has come and gone.
Ask soros, the Rothschilds, the MIC, and politicians why we don't stop wars. Good money
That sounds like something that somebody even the Vietnam War would say
I find these videos soothing: watching something once lost or discarded and forgotten restored to “life” is somehow moving. Someone once held this lighter, and it mattered enough to them that they personalized it. I just hope he made it home.
thanks a lot for your comment. I hope so too 😊
I have been smoking 40 years, and have owned zippos the whole time. Not sure if they still do, but they were guaranteed for life. If your hinge broke off either end, they would send you a new one. I have owned 3 and love them. If you ride a motorcycle, they are mandatory.
This video proves that there are Master Craftsman on both ends of the spectrum: those who create and those who restore.
But also those who record
There’s also those who do both, which he probably does.
I appreciate these videos, but restoration is nothing close to creation.
@@bmark6971 you do it then

In 50 years: restoring supreme zippo lighter
More like in 5 years. Supreme sucks.
@Mc Shoovie He asked me, supreme is for preteen little weirdos with rich parents.

"War stop people so why don't people stop war" sounds like a medic's lighter if I've ever seen one
"When a robber will cross the street, for a small take away from your house. Rest assured another will be looking from across an ocean"
DexyD20 there’s a cross on it and crosses usually means medic
DexyD20 maybe the colours on it could have been white background, Red Cross?
Dexter C I don’t think so
I know red crosses mean medic and before it was restored it was red, you can just barely see the paint, but my point is more about the person who would have bought or been assigned such a lighter in the first place. Since medics are usually less violent than there soldier counterparts, I could see a medic carrying this more than a machine gunner or rilfleman. That being said it could have been anyone's because, if I went to war I wouldn't be a medic, but I sure as hell would have a lighter like that.
I love that inscription.
I used to think that if I had a shop and all the proper tools, I could restore just about anything. But it also requires knowledge and years of experience which you have demonstrated here.
Thanks for watching and for your kind words I really appreciate it 👍😉
