Have you had schnitzels before? What is your favorite side to eat them with?
Cucumbers in sour cream, or red cabbage!
@@patriciaredick9849 yes, both sound like delicious sides for the Schnitzels ~ Anja
We love the red cabbage and spetzle
Yes and love it! My family is Slovenian and I love all types of ethnic foods. With schnitzel I love home fried potatoes, and a large salad. Lemon on it to me is best as well. Thank you for your video.
Always the best with mashed potatos 🥰
I came to your channel for sourdough bread recipe/starter but I saw this video and had to watch! I lived in Germany twice in my lifetime, my daughter was actually born in Wuerzburg Germany. I miss the food so much!!! I always had my schnitzel with a cucumber salad, just the best meal ever! I can’t wait to try this recipe. ❤
Ha! You read my mind! I'm here for SD too and saw this recipe and am just about to watch it! I lived in Bad Nauheim for 3½ years in the early-mid 2000's. I loved it and my son LOVED their schnitzel. I'm thinking I can make it for him next time I visit! Happy Friday! ( :
I grew up in Germany and love to cook my German recipes. I would like to see your beef roulade and sauerbraten recipes 😊
German hot potato salad

Hello from Lancaster County, PA. Home of one of the largest Amish settlements in the world. We speak a dialect of Switzerland and we can understand German. Really enjoyed your Schnitzel video!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Had schnitzel in Germany and Austria. Spatzel and German potatoe salad. Vinegar style.
That's exactly how we make it in New Zealand. My mother made it for us as kids and I made it for my kids. We always used veal and we called it wienner schnitzel it was always a family favourite. I haven't had it in ages now I want to make some ..thank you
Thanks for sharing. Hope you enjoy it :)
It’s so interesting to know the original recipe! In Brazil (where I was born) the bread crumbs are sometimes substituted by toasted cassava/tapioca flour. That makes it extra crunchy. Here in Japan we use thicker cuts of meat and panko bread crumbs. Somehow pork katsu is usually served on a bed of thinly sliced cabbage! Because cabbage helps in the digestion of the oily katsu.
I am so glad you enjoyed the video! And thank you so much for sharing 💛 ~ Anja
Yum! Now you need to make Spatzle and gravy to go with that!...or cucumber, tomato, purple onion salad with oil and vinegar. My family loves that! When we lived in Germany, my friends taught me how to cook some german dishes and they've become our family's faves. Thank you for taking me down memory lane. I miss my friends very much. Look forward to your videos!
Spätzle would be a perfect side for these Schnitzels! I love how food can bring back memories. Thank you for sharing and for your nice comment 💛 ~ Anja
I am Czech; and this is essential, too! My children love it! Thanks for sharing!

I totally had to explain my excitement my grandparents were German a little German lady live next door to me out in the hillbillies of nowhere in Tennessee and she raised me a lot and had a lot to do with my upbringing and she's wonderful perfect and I was brought up on schnitzel I love it I just returned back to it so I'm excited
I love your site so far so much fun
Thank you so much 😊 ~ Anja
Did I miss the seasoning part? Salt and Pepper? Nice to see authentic German cooking, Danke!
I season my breadcrumbs, makes it so much better otherwise it's pretty bland
😮what i like iss that you are quick and to the point. No chopping for hours 😅
Thank you so much for your sweet comment 💛 ~ Anja
I love, love, love good Schnitzel! Thank you for your recipe. I am a ne follower for your channel. I miss Germany and German food so much!!
Looks delicious!
Thank you! I am so glad you like it 💛 ~ Anja
My Great grandparents were from Germany. I use to love going to visit them here in Texas. My great grandmother was an excellent cook. She passed down everything she knew to my grandmother and my mom. I have tried over the years to soak up as much information that I could from them. I think I am an average cook now. But, that is thanks to them and their excellent skills in the kitchen. I hope to visit Germany some day soon where that side of my family came from. This recipe looks delicious !!! I will try it.
I hope you get to visit! Its beautiful. My father was in the Army and I was born in Heidelberg. We returned on assignment when I was 15. I went to high school in Frankfurt. Best time of my life! I'm 68 now and still dream of returning.
Such an educational and -- at the same time -- very simple recipe! Danke schön! 🥂
Glad you liked it and bitte schön 😊
Schnitzel is always great. I would love to see you make sauerbraten. I’ve had it once and I’ve always wanted to make it at home.
I lived in Germany and ate schnitzel in a large pork filet. I had it with lemons and my husband ate with a mushroom sauce. I slaved over a stove and cooked us Five filets. My huge Catahoula dog jumped up to the kitchen counter and ate four of them. It was heartbreaking to me because I think I really cooked them well like German cooks. I tried it again years later and my family was floored with how good the taste and tenderness was in the filets.
Oh, no!! Those pesky dogs ... 🤪. But yes, most schnitzels are made with pork.
My husband would love that! And so will I!!
Hi Linda, who doesn't love a good Schnitzel, right but I am so glad you like this recipe! Thank you so much for commenting and Guten Appetit 😊 ~ Anja
I made it for the 1st time a couple days ago just Amazing!!!! Thank you !!!!

Hi Anja! I have never had this before and I made it for the first time tonight! So delicious and easy to make. My husband loved it! I can't wait to try more of your recipes! ❤️😊
Hi Lourdes, that makes me so, so happy to hear!!! Kudos to you for trying a new recipe and succeding! Thank you so much for sharing 💛 ~ Anja
I’m getting ready to make this tonight. Had to watch one more time. 🌺
Nice! Hope you liked it!
@@OurGabledHome it was delicious, Anja! My husband made a sandwich out of the leftover piece . My chicken breast was so thick I cut it into thirds.
Thank you so much!
You are so welcome 💛 ~ Anja
Nice kitchen!
I love chicken schnitzel! I’m from Huntsville, Al originally and we had German families move there after WWII for the space program. One family opened a restaurant(in the early 1970s). She was a great chef and her schnitzel was the best. This reminds me of her schnitzel. Thank you so much! I’m going to attempt to make your schnitzel. We retired to the north Georgia mountains. I love your channel. My husband likes the beef with the dill pickle. Lol Edited to say my favorite side - fried potatoes and red cabbage
Hi Judy, I am so glad you like this video! Happy cooking and thank you so much for your nice comment and sharing your story 😍 ~ Anja
Hello Anja! I love watching your videos. I love the simplicity and peacefulness. Have you made a video about making chicken cordon bleu? My niece buys them already prepared from the store but I would rather make it myself. Thank you!
I am so glad you're enjoying my videos, Carolyn! I don't have a cordon bleu video but might make one 😊 ~ Anja
Thanks for that God bless
Thank You 🙏💜
You are so welcome!
Anja, love your recipes. My father was half German (his mom's side of the family) understood the language but did not speak it. He used to talk about about the cuisine, but did not know how to actually cook it. So, your videos help me connect with my German side and will definitely incorporate more of your recipes into my routine. BTW, love your range, have never see this brand before. It is quite beautiful! Thank you for all your videos.
Thank you so much and happy cooking!
Looks delicious, thank you for the recipe. Love your blouse, you look darling! Danke shoen ( please pardon spelling errors).
Aww ... thank you so much! I am glad you like the recipe - and the blouse 💛 ~ Anja
Adding a tablespoon of cream to the egg wash make a nice addition and stretches how much coating you will get from just one egg.
Such a lovely blouse - perfect for you. :) Years ago I spent a few glorious days in Switzerland (Germany's twin, maybe?), and did try schnitzel, but now I know why it was so tender. Thank you!
I bet the Swiss know how to make a good Schnitzel, too! Thank you so much for your compliment and your sweet comment 💛 ~ Anja
Omg...I. also make this with home made spatzle. Thankyou so much . I lived 8 yrs in Schwarzwald. 💕 Enjoyed many lovely meals at the local Gasthaus.
Oooh, homemade Spätzle are so good! These Schnitzels are perfect with them 😊 ~ Anja

I think I got the blouse in Germany or Austria. Thank you so much for your sweet comment and for sharing 💛 ~ Anja
Schnitzel 😊 not schnitzle
Hi, would you be able to do a video on what Germans traditionally eat for breakfast, lunch & dinner, as well as Christmas, Easter traditional food.
Yes, I will have more videos coming about all things German. Stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled 💛 ~ Anja
adding tips: to get the 'typical blistering' of the coating, wet the meat lightly before putting it into the breading, be very light handed (do not press on). reason: the water evaporates during frying and that causes the blisters. use a bunch of oil to cook, they should 'swim' - and fry while moving the pan, that will start the blistering. the word schnitzel comes from schneiden (to cut) and just means a thin slice, so anything, even veg can be a schnitzel, but she's absolutely right, it's never vienna schnitzel if it's not from veal, and I believe they have a copyright law that even says what the size should be, don't quote me on that though.
Great, thank you so much for sharing ~ Anja
thank you for the beautiful schnitzels. Any chance to get your version of German strawberry rolls and sauerkraut
I am so glad you enjoy my schnitzel recipe and thank you for your suggestions! I will definitely keep those in mind 💛 ~ Anja
Schnitzel made with breadcrumbs is just like chicken fried steak, which is good. But using panko is Way better! Try it both ways and see for yourself. The first time I had schnitzel it was made by a German in a mom n pop cafe in Texas and it was coated in panko and was great! I started making it with online recipes with regular breadcrumbs and it was never as good and didn’t have that golden crunchy breading. I then tried panko and bam, it was just like that first one I ever had that was made by a German. Great!
Great! Thank you for sharing 😊 ~ Anja
I've never tried to make this because every house I've lived in had creaky counters and a meat mallet just made so much noise and vibration it was scary. 🤣 I need sturdier counters. I use glass pie pans or loaf pans for dredging though the breading process. It looked so delicious, I think I will try it. I've had a meat mallet for 40 years and have only tried using it a dozen times. 😆
Yes, glass baking dishes would work, too! Hope you will put that meat mallet to good use. Thank you so much for sharing and your nice comment 💛 ~ Anja

I watched to see if there was really something different between Schnitzel and frying other cutlets and it is not at all different except as it is served. I generally serve cutlets Milanese style over a bed of arugula with a bit of lemon. Your technique is very methodical and produced a perfect Schnitzel.
Thank you so much 😊 ~ Anja
Spero che tu usi il vitello e la rosoli nel burro. Come per tutti i fritti niente limone, rovina la croccantezza dell'impanatura
Lovely recipe and really charming video. When using pork, is some specific cut recommended? Thank you! 👌
I am so glad you enjoyed this video! The best cut for schnitzel is boneless pork loin chop. Happy cooking 😊 ~ Anja
I am new to your channel, my grandad was from Hamburg so I'm excited to start making your recipes for my family. . Do you have a recipe for a German chocolate cake?
Hi Samantha, I am so glad you're enjoying my videos! I had to chuckle about the German chocolate cake because in my latest video I am chatting with a fellow German food blogger whose pet peeve is German restaurants that serve German chocolate cake - it turns out, that cake is not from Germany but named after the America baker Samuel German 😊 ~ Anja
Those have to be the most beautiful schnitzels I've ever seen!! I was wondering about seasonings - do you ever use salt, pepper and such in the flour, or on the meat prior to dredging? Thank you for another lovely video :-)
Because I make my own breadcrumbs and new that they had salt/seasoning in them, I didn't add any but you can absolutely salt and pepper the meat before dusting them with flour. Thank you so much for your sweet comment 💛 ~ Anja
Are there any other herbs and spices that are you traditionally use on chicken schnitzel? How about pork scchnitzel?
Could you do a video recipe for Heidelbeerkuchen?

I often use seasoned bread crumbs but feel free to add salt, pepper, and any other of your favorite seasonings 👍 ~ Anja
Peanut oil works very well.

Hallo Anja!

Do you have any recipes for what can be done with the remains of your dredging bowls? Ala like making something like a hush puppy sort of thing or maybe a kind of dumpling?
That is a good question! Sometimes, I just fry it up when I am done with the Schnitzels but I am sure there are much more creative ways. Maybe you come up with a good recipe???
Can you do kanadels( dumplings )?
Hi Carol, yes, I will post a video on how to make Knödel this year! Stay tuned ... 😊 ~ Anja
Hi Anja I did not see any seasoning. Salt, pepper, etc At what point you add them? When eating them?
Often, I have seasoning in my breadcrumbs. You can either season your meat before breading - or add it to the breadcrumbs 👍 ~ Anja
👌🏻
I hope you share a piece with the puppy
Does it absorb a lot of oil if you use canola oil?
Hi Linda, these schnitzels will absorb some oil. I would say use whatever you have. Hope this helps 💛 ~ Anja
We have a German restaurant close. They have two sauces I love. One is a brown gravy with a hint of wine. The other is a beer cheese sauce. Do you recipes for these? I make my schnitzel exactly like you, but always find that the breading is too think, and the schnitzel is too greasy for me. I don't know why I have this problem! Does anyone have a solution?
Try using finer breadcrumbs, making the Schnitzel super thin and only fry them for a short amount of time.

My breadcrumbs were seasoned already
Will appreciate more and subscribe you, if you cut down first 3~4 minutes to 30 seconds. Thank you so much... This German dish is the origin of Japanese "Don-Katcu"! Don means pork, this is "Chicken-katcu. Arigato.
