  • So many comments about how this trap has "flaws". It is a simple trap. It is simular to a box trap, but made from everyday household items. You could "rodent proof" it, but then it wouldn't be what it is, simple ! You could line it with wire screen,The sticks could be glued onto the outside of the bottle, you could make it battery powered, you could make it launch the mouse into space, you could go and buy a mouse trap or you could just appreciate this for what it is. A neat and cheap way to catch a mouse !

      @cutter14@cutter148 жыл бұрын
    • +Matthew E YES! Good thing I checked the trap before it managed to chew through to escape. It had already chewed an inch when I took the trap outside about 5 minutes after it got trapped. Then it managed to escape by pushing and prying the gap open with both front and back legs! We need a better trap than that, but at least it got trapped which is a good thing!

      @cutter14@cutter148 жыл бұрын
    • +Matthew E Wish I could handle blood and gore.... I can't handle dead animals even one as gross as a rat. I don't like snap traps because we have stray cats around here that might get hurt in the process. I know...they should be catching rats but then there are too many rats around, they outnumber the cats. :(

      @SuperModerngranny@SuperModerngranny8 жыл бұрын
  • I love it! the mouse doesn't get hurt and you can release it in the wild after catching it. BOTH WIN!

  • Really remarkable idea for a relatively humane mouse trap! The only issue I can see is that the mouse would probably be able to chew through the plastic if you don't get to it in time. Maybe one could set it up to make more noise when the trap goes off.

      @dustinwrye@dustinwrye9 жыл бұрын
    • Dustin Wrye I don't think I've ever come across an "absolutely humane" mouse trap. "Relatively", meaning in relation to less humane traps such as glue traps and traps that are generally intended to kill mice.

    • +Gaige Highlander *lol* it made loads of sense. it's held in by tension from the rubber bands and string. you should not need a close up.

      @guitaristforfunn@guitaristforfunn8 жыл бұрын
    • I needed to watch the same spot a couple of additional times myself, but it is simply the one end of a paper clip that he pushed up through the hole about a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch, then attached the string loop around the clip end.

      @LaughingRandomly@LaughingRandomly8 жыл бұрын
    • I agree. It looks like the paperclip would have to be at the very back of the bottle to avoid being pulled forward by the tension on the string. The bait would have to be very strong or tied in because mice are known to remove it from sensitive traps without setting them off. This grab and run is unusual for mice that I have dealt with. Evidenced by a "licked clean" trap.

  • In an old house I caught 47 mice (I counted) by simply putting two liter Pepsi bottle slanting and a bait in it. The plastic was so slippery that they couldn't get out upon entering, just running in place. After a time the bottle's interior would become rough, and the bottle had to be changed. (Of course I freed them all later, at ca 150 m away from the house, across the road at litter cans)..

    • just make a backdoor by cutting a U form for the convenient reuse of the device and fix the door with additional clips when ready for action. that's it.

    • line peon In my area letting rats go is not a very good option. One of two things seems to happen (I've been told by folks who seem well-versed): * They quickly find another host home. Apparently there is a neighborhood near one of our parks that gets more than its share of rats due to humane catch and release. * They become an invasive species in an area where they have few natural predators. For me, the benefit of humane traps like this is that I at least don't *torture* and then kill the animal.

    • It doesnt matter how you attach the food to the paperclip, as long as the mouse pulls the paperclip/food out of the hole, where the string is just barely holding onto the paperclip... if that makes since.

    • Violet Newstead I use peanut butter. Rats like peanuts and the butter sticks to things better. He seemed to be using some kind of meat. Rats will eat almost anything, but cheese is actually not the best bait because it dries out and doesn't stay put.

  • Good use of inexpensive materials, and it's not cruel like glue traps. I have caught the little buggers by setting a magazine or thin book at it's balancing point on the tables edge with bait on the overhanging end. Place a trash receptacle below the magazine on the floor, it works well.
