Thank you for saving him and getting him to a vet I'm willing to bet the people who abandoned the dog threw him into the water which is probably why he was afraid of the water the way he bonded with you, you should adopt him!
I hope the people who left the dog on the island are forever too hot under blankets and too cold without them.
I would've taken that dog in an instant if I saw it. If a person dumped that dog there, they deserve the electric chair.
I have a couple friends who found their dogs thrown out and malnourished. They saw their new friends and yes took the dog in an instant :D
It's possible it jumped from a boat and the owners didn't notice until the dog was out of sight.

"I can tell that this is a family dog." Well, I for one would like to find that family.
It's a stray dog, there's millions of them in S.A.. He probably got there before the rain season and he got stuck by the water. He's sensationalising this, yes he saved a dog but nobody still gives a f over there. He probably had to pay that shelter to take him. When I was in Panama I had the idea to start a dog refuge on a big coffee plantation, but after talking around, even tho everybody was like "dayum thats a good idea there are so many stray and abandonned dogs here" still everybody wasn't there yet, people are too much in need to care for animals yet. There was no way in hell the governement would sponsor such a refuge or even private donations, maybe in 10 years people will be ready for it down there. Stray dogs are a big problem in many many 3rd world countries around the world and even so called "civilised" regions. It doesn't take much to take them off the streets but it is costy to really take care of them. I think at this point even just euthanasia is more humane than abandoning a dog to it's death or to be tortured by humans in metropolitan areas.
Anywhere else in the world the person would have adopted the dog right away no doubt about it. But as you can see they don't really really care, still, this guy is mos DEF a foot in the right direction and he's got a great loving heart. What he did is amazing. Most people wouldn't even touch that sick dog even less carry him and then pay for his treatment. He deserves all the publicity he can get for this.

One night in 1996 I went out to buy a lottery ticket, on the way I saw an scruffy dirty little puppy running in and out of the road by an abandoned abattoir, I stopped my van and chased her , in and out of various rooms and back out onto the road, eventually cornered her and threw my jacket over her and grabbed her up , no collar full of fleas and clearly not used to people , took her home cleaned her up and got her checked out by the vet , I didn't win anything on my lottery ticket that night but little " Abbey" hit the jackpot , it took weeks to tame her and win her trust but we did it, we kept her, she had holidays with us to wales , Scotland and the lakes , two walks a day and nearly 17 years of love and care before we had to say goodbye 😥 she was the sweetest little thing , I still miss that little dog

This is a decent human being. Anyone who lacks the empathy to help a stranded dog that is crying at you like that would be a MONSTER. Good job my friend.

@@t-wrecks7481 - Yes IF that is the case. IF that is the case that person should b beat within an inch of their life. But I could see an scenario in which the dog got lost swimming and went towards the wrong island so I do not assume it was for sure left by someone (it is hard to imagine but there are some pretty messed up people out there so I am sure it has happened).
@@PartStupid I don't know about that. I guess it might be possible but I find it hard to believe as the kayaker said it was 2.5 miles to the other shore. Now if he was on a boat and he jumped off and it was my dog, I'd have searched for him until I found him just as if it were one of my kids. I guess anything is possible though so...
@@t-wrecks7481 - Lets say he was swimming with his owner a couple hundred feet off shore and then he gets lost and turned around and now is panicking so he/she does not understand which land in the distance is the original that they came from and so they just swim to the first land on the horizon that catches their eye. I think this is a very easy to understand and plausible scenario (it would also explain why they were so afraid of the water now being that the water, in their mind, is what caused this awful thing to happen to them). But maybe I am wrong about this being plausible (I don't think so though, my reasoning is pretty solid here but like any human being I am wrong from time to time). - And again I am not saying this is what happened just that I cannot say someone left him for sure as there are a couple other scenarios that fit (like yours with a dog jumping from a boat and the owner not noticing... but I disagree with you being able to search and find him so easily as you say, lets say you were below deck sleeping and he jumped off hours before, how are you going to know which little island he went to? I think you are not accounting for all the crazy scenarios that can happen).

Hey everyone. I'm the original rescuer of the dog. I always see people asking what's been of him. I just uploaded a short video showing him in his home (it's been almost 1.5 years since the rescue) you can check it out on my channel. But here's what happened to him A little bit after this video was uploaded, he contracted distemper at the vet where he was living (he received the vaccine too late) and he had to be isolated and taken care of. Fortunately he survived without any effects or complications. Then after looking for almost a month we finally found a home for him. The family is very loving, the house has a huge yard and there are like 5 other doggy friends to play with him. He's a super happy and active dog. He's gotten kinda fat tho, which worries me a bit but I think it's not too bad, the owners say he just eats anything he finds all the time including the fruit from the yard. Hopefully he won't gain more weight and stay at the point where he is now, but he's a super happy dog anyway and he really deserves the good life he's having :)

@@Felatelist We can imagine any scenario, but there are too many human beings that do this, so I choose the abandonment on purpose scenario because that is most plausible.
@@Sharona-21 I had no idea you were such an omniscient authority, thinking the worst of people. Why take the dog to a far distant deserted island to abandon it? Dropping it off at the SPCA pound would have been simpler, especially if it were a mean, nasty, ugly looking animal, which this isn't. More questions than answers.

Awe poor baby. I've actually found my dog around a lake, and he sounded exactly like that. When dogs sound like that, they're distressed and calling for help. I'm so glad dodo put out these beautiful videos everyday, I always have to get tissues before I start the video 🤧

@@Klejnotnilu666 it's good to think outside the box, but if his owner had broken legs he could probably pull himself to the shore to be seen. judging from the state of that dog, the dog's been without food for a week, so the owner isn't able to take good care of the dog anyway, so it's still a good deed. if the owner wants the dog back, he can talk to the local shelters. but just because this guy didn't rescue the imaginary owner doesn't make what he did bad or wrong in any way, that's just in your mind. i don't think he did this for youtube, he used his judgement and did a good thing by every possible standard.

Yes, if that is the case, but it occurred to me, based on the information in this video, it is possible another less nefarious reason brought him to the island that could explain why he is so afraid of the water. Regardless, I am Thankful this young man found and saved him. God Bless.
