  • Why not use carbon fiber wheels then? can someone explain that? that way you eliminate the risk of fire and use a very strong if not stronger material than magnesium just like the lambo sesto elemento does

    @carloscastroborja@carloscastroborja9 жыл бұрын
    • I would assume rules dont let them do it

      @ZoobaMaFooProDuction@ZoobaMaFooProDuction9 жыл бұрын
    • So first of all theres actually no worry about fire. Because solid Magnesium won't burn easely. What do burn easely is pulverised Magnesium or Magnesium shavings when it's machined. That's also the reason why they use oil based cooling solutions if they machine Magnesium. Second, Carbon fiber is a lousy thermal conductor. That is importent because they use the heat of the brakes to keep the tyres in the right temperature range. And third, the weight loss wouldn't be significally. The density of pure Magnesium is 1.7g/cm^3. Because they use an alloy it is a bit higher. But normal Carbon fiber weavings have also a density of about 1.8g/cm^3 In the end, the Carbon fiber wheels of the lambo are nothing more than a marketing gag. Looks great on the data sheets to impress potential buyers, but they bring no performance gain.

      @shi01@shi019 жыл бұрын
    • Rodrigo Melendez Hirezi carbon fibre suffers from catastrophic failure unlike metals which can be tested for micro fractures. This means you could have carbon fibre wheels that literally explode during the race. Metals also gave better elasticity than compounds which means it can absorb some energy.

    • www.theicct.org/sites/default/files/publications/EU_vehiclemarket_pocketbook_2013_Web.pdf page 58-59 Yon can buy a car with biger engine but it is luxury import not a car made in EU for EU and 2,4L is not in economy class that is around 1-1,3L and in 2015 all new cars must have maximal fuel consumption 5,3L/100km or 53 mpg , average in my contry is aroud 7L/100km or 40mpg you have aroud 25,5mpg but that is in news post what a average car make on galon

    • You definitely can't read statistics man. It's the average displacement for the vehicles they sold the most. There are a lot of 4 to 6 liters engines here in the big mercedes and bmw. For example, the vw passat has often a 2 liter engine, yet vw numbers are under 1800cc, that's because of the Polo's and Golf's they sell more.

  • The explanation of why an aerofoil generates lift is somewhat incorrect, and does not elaborate on the actual explanation on why lift forces are generated. It is not only a matter of a difference of pressure, as the propulsion in a sail boat going up wind, or the down force for lift force on an airfoil. The driving force is due to the deflection of air in the direction opposite of the lift or down force. If it was only a matter of difference of air pressure that created lift or force, then aircraft would not be able to fly upside down.

And fuck, forged iron doesn't get it's strength from hammering. At some points this show crosses over from simplifying to misinformation.

  • 6:17 not totally fair , the smaller piston is not the same weight. no control in this experiment

    @circusboy90210@circusboy902107 жыл бұрын
  • unfortunately the whole "piston cannon" analogy is very flawed in so many ways. first of all the valve that lets the pressure in doesn't open instantly or consistently. 2nd of all (and to add to the valve problem) the tighter piston is so tight it actually sticks in the bore. this means the loose piston starts moving out of the way of building pressure while the tight piston sits there allowing the pressure to build higher behind it before it moves which has nothing to do with how an actual piston or pressure works in an engine. 3rd they didnt use any oil which reinforces the 2nd problem outlined above and last but not least pistons dont even do the sealing, RINGS DO and neither of the pistons used in the cannon had rings on them! to test this properly they should've put rings and oil on the pistons, put them in the bore and then put a force gauge on the piston and released the pressure measuring the force of the piston on the gauge as the pressure leaked past. with that test I bet both pistons would be pretty much the same.

    @lampim@lampim8 жыл бұрын
    • I think you're missing my point. I never said they were wrong. I never said lose pistons seal better. I know tighter pistons will have less blowby. I have a built tuner car with forged pistons I can tell the car makes much less power before the pistons heat up and expand plus there's more blowby in the PCV system when cold. I've rebuilt engines before so trust me I do know what I'm talking about. What I said was THE ANALOGY is flawed and there are better, more scientific ways they could've made their point.

      @lampim@lampim8 жыл бұрын
    • i agree but for another reason i was thinking the piston experiment with the air canon is aimed more at conventional car engines and not F1, all engines need a good fit, and the experiment shows the differences, but the F1 engine is on another level and im pretty sure conventional car engines were around before the modern F1 car in which he is talking about, he really should of showed something that needed to be heated up to work that existed before todays F1 cars or something along those lines.

      @discovolante6624@discovolante66247 жыл бұрын
    • I'm pretty sure the actual point was that Formula One engineers has a bigger payoff in being more precise in making/designing F1 cars. For me, if there's anything wrong with piston-cannon connection, it's that it's redundant. It isn't so much an engineering connection as much as an engineering principle. At this level, everyone already expects the engineers to be making these cars right to the limit. It's their job.
