He may be fluent - as in having a good vocabulary and good grammar, but he doesn't sound like a native speaker. You can tell it's not his first language. The OP is right, Arthur Chen was by far the most native-sounding person in this video.
Arthur was born and raised in americe, he even hold american citizenship and pasport, but in 2020 he let go his american citizenship due to chinese strict rules

Arthur Chen is the only one on this list who speaks English. Kudos to LiuYiFei and the guy who studied in Canada. The rest has passable English speaking ability.
What a lot of people don't realize is that to be considered "fluent" you must not only understand and speak a language, you must also be able to read and write in that language.
Jackson Wang is pretty proficient as well, and not just in English, I believe Korean too.
Jackson grew up in Hong Kong where English is common and he is a KPop idol so yeah he speaks Korean too. 😊

Wondered why are fans so surprised that the Chinese actors can speak good English. Here in Malaysia, many Chinese can speak good and even excellent English, and we are not actors. Not a big deal actually. And in Malaysia, the Malay language is our national language, not English. There’s a Malay proverb, “ Telur sebiji, rioh sekampung “ literally meaning “ lay an egg and the whole village knows”; meaning “making so much fuss over some small achievement “
Bragging much? No one cares what Chinese people in Malaysia can speak.
There are very, very, very, very few Chinese in Malaysia and their Singaporean counterparts can even speak proper English. The Malays are even worst. The only way one does speak to these locals is to use singular words to converse. But not to worry, Australians and the New Zealanders have the same problem.
Agreed with @coFFee123 We Malaysian speaks and write multi languages. My daughter speaks and Write English, Chinese and Malay and she speaks also Cantonese, Mandarin, Hokkien and German. We Malaysia are multiculture. So nothing amazing.
Monoethnic country with emphasis on their mother tongue like Japan & Korea. They can 'survive' without knowing English. Here got banana, can't speak mother tongue and shamelessly being proud of it and instead learn English. Isn't rhat different???
There's another Chinese actor with good command of english, though he rarely speaks it - Wei Lu (Leo Wu). I was surprised by his fluent pronunciations and ease in which he speaks.

Good video but you’re wrong for including dilreba,weing sonlong and wang yibo;they don’t speak fluent or proficient English just few words like many actors in China can do so they are not fluent and shouldn’t have been on the list.Also how on earth did you forget JACKSON WANG?!

I'm an American. When I lived in China, I worked with a girl who I honestly thought was an ABC (American born Chinese). I knew her for months, maybe even a year, before I found out she was actually Chinese and had never lived outside of China. She was just that amazing at learning the language and accent. I have a pretty good Chinese accent when I'm speaking Mandarin, but I'm nowhere near fluent. She had both the fluency and the accent. I'm still a bit in awe, lol.
Why is this so amazing? I'm Dutch myself and still live here in the Netherlands but i speak read and write english perfectly fine no problem at all. English is not that hard to learn.

There is a difference between that and someone who sounds indistinguishable from a person who grew up in America. That type of person is very rare and I'm almost positive you're not one of them.

The most handsome men in the world in the cinema are Chinese and South Korean,what is it in the food they eat.Singers as well they are so cute and good looking ,they are so adorable to look at ,perfect noses perfect profile just unbelievable ,I wonder if the women they marry just stare at them all day long or they carry their photo to stare ,you can say I’m obsessed with their dramas.

Ok, some explanation since there seem to be a lot of people who do not understand why it's "an accomplishment" or "a big deal" that Chinese actors and actresses speak fluent English: obviously none of you understand how differently Chinese is pronounced than English. English is not hard to learn, yes, correct. It's not such a big deal if someone can be fluent and have a good pronounciation of English, yes, correct. However many well educated Chinese can speak, write and understand English but their spoken English can be quite rough if they try to pronounce English the same way you pronounce Chinese. It's been a challenge to learn to pronounce Chinese correctly because I have to use the tongue in my mouth differently than when I speak English or my native tongue Finnish. I watched a movie with Orlando Bloom and Chinese actors like Wu Lei in it. No subtitles, and when they spoke English, I honestly could not understand and make out what they were saying, I only understood Orlando. So just because you have a good vocabulary, got good grades in English at school, can write it perfectly and understand what is said in English, it does not guarantee that, as a Chinese speaking English, your pronounciation is accurate, you speak fluently or that your accent sounds Native American or British etc. Why I'm impressed by some of the actor's English here is because I've heard other Chinese actors and actresses speaking English and it is... how should I put it... like pieces of heavy logs of wood falling out of their mouths, it doesn't sound beautiful, flowing, light. For example Crystal Liu and Chen Fei Yu on this list, it was like music to my ears. But when for example one of my favorite actors Wu Lei speaks it kind of hurts my ears a bit because it's not as perfect as I'd hoped based on people claiming he is so fluent in English. And when my favorite actor Wang He Di speaks English... oh my, then I just take it as comedy and laugh to myself at how adorable he is because he's English is just horrific 😂 Yes, Wu Lei is good at English, understands and speaks well, but here we're talking about some people who speak English so well it brings out the beauty of the language instead of butchering it and makes you feel like you're listening to a native English speaker. But with nativily Chinese speaking I find it more impressive if they can speak both English and Chinese accurately, perfectly and beautifully because it means they understand the differences of languages, how you are supposed to pronounce them, how to place the tongue in the mouth when speaking English and when speaking Chinese. If you're not a language nerd you won't probably understand what is the big deal here, but for me, it's the difference between feeling bliss and pleasure when someone speaks it right and feeling torture and discomfort when someone is butchering the language. Just like the announcer on this video absolutely slaughtering the beautiful Chinese language when she says the Chinese names, just horrific to hear 😬😱

I wasn't surprised that Shawn Dou could speak fluent english. He lived in Canada for a few years and went to high school in Vancouver. I think he has a dual citizenship, so does Song Yiren or Ireine Song

Julio Iglesias sang a song in Mandarin but does not speak a word of the language. This reminds me of Song Weilong in the clip you showed, which does not prove that he can even speak English in real life. Some of the people on this list, for example Wang Yibo, do not speak English fluently at all, at best just a few words here and there but speak, no he does not speak English..

Some would argue Mark Chao should be on the list as a native English speaker although he's Taiwanese Canadian dual national not Chinese Canadian. He's in Cdramas though so worth mentioning. I've heard him speak English and he speaks it fluently with a Canadian accent.

Hate these types of videos because how is it mind blowing? One is just helping to enforce the false narrative that languages has something to do with ethnicity, when anyone regardless of how they look, and their background can become fluent in any language. I speak of experience as I’m adopted. Still in this time and age people get shocked when they hear me speak fluent Norwegian and English, like dhu… growing up in the 90’s and 2000’s, besides learning English as my 2nd language in school, English was everywhere especially on TV, and of course pop culture like music: MTV. Some might claim it’s easier for us Scandinavians because a Norwegian and English are both related Germanic languages, but I know immigrants and foreigners who lives here who comes from totally different cultures and languages not even Indo European, who wasn’t born here nor grew up here, speak in fluently Norwegian. Anyone can become good at anything as long as they have the passion, drive, grit, and work hard at it…
You are speaking for your own culture/country only. Literally no American will ever be surprised or even raise an eyebrow at someone who looks Chinese (or Indian or Nigerian or Hispanic) speaking fluent English. I doubt most Brits, Canadians or Australians would either. This video is not mind blowing and it's not reinforcing the "false narrative that languages have something to do with ethnicity" because there IS NO SUCH NARRATIVE in English speaking countries. It doesn't exist. Maybe like seventy years ago, in rural areas, but not anymore. I have encountered this attitude before, but not in an English speaking country. In China, they do assume that non-Chinese (racially) can't possibly speak Chinese fluently while also assuming that people of Chinese descent born and raised overseas should be able to speak it fluently. But this is just not a thing in America. Nobody in this country of every single race and ethnicity thinks that language is tied to ethnicity like that and it's honestly stupid that you think that's a thing in the English speaking world. This video isn't mind-blowing to any native English speaker, it's just admiring the actors who have learned English and speak it well.

The criteria for this list should be speaking English without a script or notes. Speaking a sentence or two in a movie doesn't mean your English is mind blowing. The actor should be able to speak fluently during conversations or interviews. I disagree with a few of these 10 actors.

I would expect any actor or actress that lived or studied outside of China in a primarily English-speaking country, to have good English. Also, those from Hong Kong, with its British history and international status, or Taiwan. Mark Chao, Riley Wang, Aarif Rahman, William Chan.

What is there to be surprised that chinese stars speak English. Some of them were born in The States or European countries. Of course they can speak English.. hardly surprising then.There are lots of non actors and ordinary chinese nationals who also speaks fluent English and are multi linguist. I'm for one and I speak fluently 3 languages and can understand and speak minimal 4 other languages . 😮
