Lower the truck prices if you get a chance. 🙏 🙏 🙏 😁
Scotty boss . I have 2017 Honda civic si !! Should I use a premium fuel as recommended by the manufacturer or regular fuel .
Hey Scotty. We have a 2010 sentra ser with the 2.5 ltr and the cvt and I do have to admit it does some weird shifting sometimes. I find there is a better way to drive a car with a cvt. I know it seems weird but I find that if you ease up on the gas pedal you get way better performance out of it. I found that in city traffic with slight pedal pressure instead of mashing it to the floor the car accelerates way better. I think it's the best setup for passing and easiest on the vehicle. I have no problem getting way ahead of the traffic in a short time using this method. I tried mashing it when we first bought it and was disappointed with the overall performance. So I tried pushing it down maybe an inch and it took right off with very little strain on the engine. Seems counterintuitive, not hearing the engine screaming like the old automatics. It doesn't take long and you're flying past everyone. Maybe it comes from riding around on snowmobiles as a kid(same theory in a cvt). I don't know if it's the combination of the larger 4 cylinder engine with that tyranny or if the 2 ltr engine works similar but I have never owned anything that passes as fast as that does using this driving method. Not a standard or a typical 3 or4 spd auto and it's so effortless. I never mash the throttle with the general lack of quality and expense of repair. Next time you have the opportunity give it a go. Maybe just like changing from a typical auto trans to a standard takes some rethinking maybe going to this type take some rethinking aswell
@@garyangelstad5212 it's true. It drives differently from an automatic transmission. It's not good how Scotty drove it.

2013 Nissan Murano driving and looking like it was new. This whole CVT issue that some people have is the result of not changing the CVT transmission fluid, it needs to be changed every 2 years or 30k miles. As a mechanic of over 50 years, Scotty should have added this information to this video.
Well Scotty is a mechanic so he wouldn't recommend anything that is more costly to repair/replace. Plus I've never actually seen anyone repair a CVT trans they usually just replace, and that makes them even less desirable.
@@JS-qi1ou I didn't say replace the transmission, I said replace the transmission fluid every two years, it costs us $120 every two years and runs smooth with no issues at all.
@@Diemerstein true keeping up with replacing fluids is great and more than what 90% of new car owners are willing to do. I'm talking about if and when they fail, as someone who used to work at a dealer when it came to CVT the cost of a rebuild was so high that the customers just limped them over to another place and traded them in. And that was Toyota, which had probably the best CVT's at the moment in the Prius.
@@Diemerstein False. I've replaced them with as little as 30k miles on them. Nothing you can do about it, but hope it fails under one of the extended warranty campaigns if it does fail. Some last a long time some don't. If it's got a judder code stored, it's done.
I agree. Even the Nissan Murano handbook does mention to change fluid every 100k miles or so, it needs to be updated and give out alert to the bulletin board but it seem like they won't do that.
The Jatco virus has affected Nissan
Gotta nice cvt for ya, smooth as butter, you're gonna love it.

It’s not called a Rogue for nothing!
I tried the Rogue and loved the safety features and comfort. After having all kinds of issues with various unreliable Toyota's. When first I sat in the Rogue I noticed it had a proper full sized sun visor. AND, it extends beautifully for guys like me who have to recline the seat. Plus the seat not only goes up and down but actually fit my sitting style like a glove. I recall my first words. "Ahh, at last, here's a car maker who understands what their customers need." After three Rogues with all the bells and whistles. Now in our retirement home. we now have probably the most comfortable AWD car on the road, their wonderful Murano SV. Truthfully, never had a problem of any kind in any Nissan except now were both eighty we discovered the Nissan Murano's Zero gravity seats making it THE MOST comfortable car we ever drove. Their CVT's have been great for me, but then we take proper care.
I have 2013 nissan march and no major problem..

Attention Scotty I've watched many of your videos regarding the Nissan CVT they are very helpful & informative. As far as failure rates problems reported with the Nissan CVT frequency are insignificant against the total sales of which are in the millions

Scotty, My company's motor pool has several dozen Nissan Altimas with CVTs, from 2017 to 2019 model years. We maintain them well, and we have yet to see a single CVT failure. We put these out to auction as each one reaches 60,000 miles. These are fine road-trip cars.
bboucharde Yeah, 'cause you actually maintain the damn cars. Tell that to the average person who doesn't know anything about cars.
@@mintaddict1 Yeah, I have to admit that we change the oil on schedule, check all the fluids, and drive them normally. That's all.
@Da Gr8one, Based on what I have seen, the CVTs fail at higher mileage. i.e., 100,000 miles. We do not keep our fleet Altimas past 60 K miles.
@Da Gr8one that's not true bro with all keep in mind 70% of tge people who own cvts are punching them hard like its a v6 or v8 which messes the transmission up you can't keep flooring a cvt like that specially if it a 4 cylinder
That's s the nicest he's ever been to a Rouge. I'd like to see him try one with pro pilot assist.
Scotty always holding that START button lol "Just push it Scotty!" :)
Scotty, I've owned 3 nissans. All bulletproof so far. 97 Altima, (5spd std) bought used with 30 thou on it. Drive it to 90 thou, gave it to my daughter, she put another 40 thou on it. It was still running perfect until she tried to swim it (no luck). Bought a new 08 Altima. My wife chose it over the Camry and Accord. The Camry was underpowered and drove you crazy with its constant gear hunting. The Accord simply wasn't comfortable. We drove it happily for 8 years. Only reg maintenance. 1 Battery, 1 front wheel brake pad. Sold it to my son, he still drives it daily. Bought a new 2016 Nissan Murano S L. Again, my wife picked it over the Toy Highlander and Honda Pilot. The Toyota had a really uncomfortable driving position. There wasn't a good place for your left foot. The Pilot felt too much like my Pickup (another vehicle you hate, 2010 Ram). The Murano was quieter, smoother, and much more comfortable. We've only had it 4 yrs. Time will tell about durability. Really enjoy your rants. Keep up the good work.

The only reason people buy these over RAV4s and CRVs is mainly because of financial reasons. Nissan financial will approve anyone with a pulse. Also the Rogue is a bit cheaper than the RAV4 and CRV. Also a good majority of Rogue drivers apparently don’t even know how to operate their headlights properly (driving with just DRL led strips at night) so they know nothing about CVTs.
Ha! When u drive with your DRL at night then u probably won't know anything about CVTs.🤔
People who drive with only led DRL at night probably have halogen headlights..

Mines is vin code “J” It’s a love hate thing.. Pros: At 127,xxx miles I haven’t had any issues with it. Change my cvt fluid every 30,000 miles or so. Good mpg (when driven conservatively) Cons: Performance isn’t up there with something like an Escape Ecoboost or V6 Rav4 and Nissan doesn’t offer a turbo or V6 option. I’d imagine this is because the transmission isn’t suited for more torque. CONCLUSION: I personally wouldn’t recommend this vehicle unless you’re the type who really stays on top maintenance intervals, the transmission in particular. Most people can own a car for 5+ years and changing the transmission fluid would never cross their mind, some don’t even know what transmission fluid is. You can’t always trust the extended life service intervals in your owners manual. Every 30,000 miles has worked for me. Overall I wouldn’t recommend. Only reason I own a Nissan is because I worked there, know the products and how to avoid known problems with their cars. UPDATE: 141,000 miles
That is with every car if you don't change fluids it wont last
Anyone oesn't know what transmission fluid is....and doesn't know to change it, shouldn't be driving. Or own a car or truck at all
@@richsweeney1115 I would say at least 85-90% of drivers don’t think about maintenance, PERIOD, aside from Meineke oil changes and tire replacements. Of the people in that little box, most generally trade up about every 6 years long before the problems generally occur. People like myself who try to keep our vehicles at least 10 years tend to acknowledge what it takes to keep it running in tip top.. unless you’re leasing, I really don’t see the point in making $400-$700 a month payment most of your life. I couldn’t imagine spending that much of my earnings to fatten someone else’s pockets. Ik it’s off topic but..
I don't work for Nissan but their only Rogue that I trust is the Sport with manual transmission

Outside the US is called X-Trail, it's a good looking SUV when you pick the fully loaded ones. In my last visit to United States I was impressed of the amount of Nissan Rogue's that I counted every single day I was there, my God, there's a lot of those in USA (at least in Florida)
I was wondering why the different name. N I hear that Mark x. Is call a different name in U.S
Was told by the dealer that between 120,000- 150,000 kms with stop and start driving a transmission failure is almost guaranteed . Be ready for a $ 5000 + repair . Nice vehicle but a different transmission is needed .
Hi Scotty it’s called the x trail in the UK I am glad you have done this for future reference as they are good looking cars but I need to be informed
Scotty really like your videos! You obviously know a lot about cars. Why don't you use the turn signals when you are test driving cars?
Service the CVT yourself...as Scotty says, every 30 k...it only costs about 70 bucks for the 4 quarts...very easy..maintenance means everything
longsundayrun Ok. Is this the case if the manufacture recommends changing at, say, 100k or never?
Acinc8020 ...hi...as far as I know, Nissan says 100k...the dealer told me 60k....Scotty suggests every 30k, and I agree...it’s easy, mine only took 4 quarts exactly.
It is not easy to service yourself. No dispstick (can purchase aftermarket), and extremely picky on fill level. Look up the official service manual for how to do the change and you'll see that it is far from easy, and it requires more like 8 quarts due to waste. It can be done though by any car person with some experience, but definitely not a job for a novice.
knurlgnar24 ....it’s not hard...no dipstick needed...put in exactly what you takeout
I have a 2010 Nissan Altima Coupe and it says 4 quarts but I use 4.5 quarts because I have noticed that my car transmission literally eats the CVT oil and I only use Valvoline .. It only makes since at this point.

I work for Enterprise, and I can’t tell you how many of these Rogues I’ve cleaned
Harvey Blandon hahaha, same
Lately, every rental car I’ve had was a Nissan vehicle.
Also work for Enterprise, and thanks to the marvel of computer spreadsheets I can tell you exactly how many I drove last year - 2231.
Well, Harvey, then you are probably in a good position to tell us, are the Nissan Altima/Rogue's as bad a s Scotty says they are in terms of gearbox failures and blown head gaskets on the 4 cylinder? I noticed he mentions 100,000 miles. Sounds like that once they are several years old with high mileage. the CVT could become an issue. I hired a Nissan Altima from Enterprise in Hawaii a couple of years back (i'm from Australia) and I was thinking, these things can't be that bad if they are used (and abused) as rental cars. The vehicle I drove was very smooth and comfortable.
Knight Industries they’re alright, it’s the Nissan Versa you gotta watch out for. If they try to put you in that ask for something else, cause that car sucks

Any brand of car will long last as long as the owner know how to take care off and proper maintenance vehicle and TLC .
Facts.
TRUE,my wife has a rouge with 120,000 still running pretty good
Most brand new cars.... Not all, there are some pretty bad cars out there, most Chryslers and I do not like the Rouge transmission. Why take the chance, when there are much better choices. Honda and Toyota. I would even get a Ford Escape before the Nissan.
Well if the expense is putting your pocket on hold. You only have one car , drive 30 miles or more a day to work. And after.
Tell that to the fiat, yogo, jeep liberty owner... There are some bad designs over the history of vehicles. So what you want with your money, Why take the chance?
I have a 2017 Nissan rogue with 113,000 M. I have replaced the CVT fluid and it's running great. Never had a issue just regular maintenance. So far so good. Fingers crossed.
Is it still good? Mine is a 2017 with 70K.
How do you know when it’s time to change the CVT fluid in your rogue? I have one I just recently bought, same year and it’s sitting on 126,000 kilometers.

Scotty nailed it again
He’s right. I bought a 2012 Maxima with 50k and it was great for a few years. But once it got over 100k it started to fall apart (cv axles, wheel bearings, motor mounts, radiator, exhaust literally fell off, etc). Shame because at 150k the v6 still runs great but the cvt is finally giving out. Without changing the cvt fluid I can see how they crap out under 100k, they overheat very easily.
Got 150k on my 2015 never did a trans oil change, still runs like a champ
My have 168k 😅
I just purchased an 2015 Nissan Rogue SL for $12,600 with only 52k miles. Looks brand new as the 1 owner took great care of it. Took for all maintenance on time and had all recalls taken care of. So far it's a great SUV 😊 But the CVT does have me worried but my 2014 Nissan Versa SV I bought new now has 68k miles and still runs great. I hope I can get over 100k miles 😊
I've got over 115K and the tranny was just checkec, oil changed, etc. Top mechanic says its still in great shape, BUT at this mileage it could go another 20-30 or go now. 9-10K to replace. P.S. I have NEVER used the manul shift since the day I bought it. Maybe that is the problem with the transmission.
Any car under 100k should runs good as long as take good care of it the chances of any problem can start after pass that mileage but again all depends on how you take care of it
I had the exact same type of rental vehicle same color and all. And everything you say is true about. This vehicle really can do better with a real automatic transmission with gears and possibly a v6 or a turbo 4.
You can tell the ones made in Korea by checking the door sticker, it says "Manufactured by Samsung Phillips Automotive for Renault AG", if don't want to bother remembering country VIN IDs.
About to hit 130k on my 2010 nissan altima coupe runs perfect major work I’ve done is struts
Im on my third nissan and only one has ever been in the shop and that was for a warrantied ac compressor. Had two altimas, still have one, and my 18 rogue. 2 kids and a 110lb dog to the lake no problem. Just have to take care of them.
With how many miles?
@@brandonburley3080 pushing 100k on my '12. My rogue is almost at 40. I understand the 100k mark, but so far no issues.
great info
Scotty is my idol!
I've driven the Rogue as a loaner or to lease for a week or two. Living in Canada I leased the ones with AWD, and fully loaded. Very decent ride. I like the ride. I would not keep a Rogue for more than about 4 to 5 years. I would get rid of it before the power train warranty runs out. I found in winter snow storms they perform very well.
Why would you get rid of it if you haven't had issues
Had 2015 Rogue no problem loved it. Now have a 2016 Murano with 54 thousand miles. Love the cvt trans. Quick and smooth Never put a dime in either one yet.
I have a 2016 murano and it shifts hard I don't know what to do
My mum has one, it has padded arm rests in the front, this is a revelation in driver comfort.
i am a gm guy but we rented a awd rogue for going to sunsetbeach nc ..loved how it drove an got over 33mpg ,,may by one sometime..i put 1700 miles on it ..with a bad back...seats were great.. but like you...the trans would be my worry ,,
So I had a 2013 Maxima, 4.5 years, with just enough mileage to require a CVT oil and filter change...and you could tell....for those that run them for a long time have had the best results with changing cvt fluid every 30K miles and both filters, but no flushing..and a transmission cooler has also been added.
Altimas too, do what you mentioned and they will last. I'm surprised scotty never talks about external coolers on cvt's
Believeinyourself yea I have a 2012. I bought it with 50k and a week later the cvt was overheating. A fluid change fixed it and have been doing them every 30k as well.
Hey Scotty I own a 2013 Nissan Altima SV 2.5 I have 208k miles on mine I got it 3 years ago with 43k mine is running super strong still no problems only thing I've done is a Ac Compressor that's it I drive atleast 1k miles a week if not more. I love my altima.
I love my 2013 nissan march
@@sigitpermadi6037 I'm currently at 234k as we speak going strong
@@keithzaczek1 update?
@@zach-fl6qp The Altima is at 266K and the Sonata at 214K
excellent true comments thanks
Scotty you live in Houston? Inside the loop?? what? you my neighbor? Scotty. How did you know I am looking for an suv now? how did you know I am looking into rouge vs. rav4 ? Scotty? Do you have a shop in town? I just put my prius 2010 in the dealership for a diagnose today after struggling the check engine myself for so long. Did so much myself. Learning from your videos here. You are the biggest pro man.
Go on the forums, guys have over 200K Miles . Just do you routine maintenance. We’re on our second as my wife liked the first so much. No issues to date. I will agree, I don’t love the CVT
When do you change the transmission fluid. Or is this something you would recommend?
I read this as the car lasting so long you were on your second wife at first glance haha
@@crand20033 sorry I’m getting back so late. Dump and fill ( see KZhead video) every 30K. More often if you tow, do a lot of stop and go / city driving or hills. These seem to be cvt kryptonite.
@@devilslide01 I can't get the damn dip stick out of it. I even followed a mechanic on a KZhead and still count not get it out. To get it changed will cost $180 and they have to do it twice; once to clean it out and the second time after 1000 miles so the fluid stays clean.
@@crand20033$180 is a STEAL bro! it’s $250 in todays time and maybe $450 after labour
In Malaysia we call it the X-Trail. I owned one 2015, had about 100,000 miles on it. Still drove ok but ya Scotty you are make me worry now haha.
New Nissan Qasqhai (Rogue) in Europe changed transmission anymore. It is EDC from Renault (akin to DSG, double clutch. CVT is not available anymore) . It is also produced in UK.
I like that you took it for a test drive, really gives a visual for what you're saying and it's good to hear your opinion in action. 👍
Scotty, we’ve had Nissan’s with CVTs in our family and not a single problem with any of them. Just got 150K miles out of a 2012 Quest and had no indication of any CVT problems and traded it in for a 2016 Quest. Maintenance was done by the book I should also mention. It seems to me the ones with 4-cylinders have had the majority of problems. I’ve had experience with the Murano’s and Maxima’s as well which have the bulletproof VQ V6. My friend who also has a Subaru Legacy with a CVT has over 200k miles on his and no problems so take care of it and it’ll take care of you.
Noah Mascarin I think you have a CVT cooler, & the 13/14 Nissans may not have them, & are failing from heat fatigue.
CVTs are only a problem of you drive like a rally car. Fast takeoffs and sudden breaking, followed by fast takeoffs. You straining the CVT belt
*Isn’t Nissan as a company in a recession? Lol*
Pretty much. Itd be intresting when nissan pulls out of the alliance
YEP!! BINGO!
Trisev O-860U and see them go bankrupt
Jordan Gonsalves think Toyota or ford might buy them but most likely a Japanese company will they wouldn’t go with a company from another country again
Thank Ghosn for cutting costs and innovation. Nissan parts are not like what they used to be.
I bought a brand new rogue in 2014 with 16k, and crashed in 2019 dec, insurance company totaled it with 11.6k, never went thu any other break down or maintenance beside oil change. I am happy with that purchase.
My Seat Leon - 1.9TDI (VW) steering wined so i flushed out the dirty fluid a couple of times and it stopped wining ...well almost stopped. So clean fluid helps, and it is on over 300k miles so I can't complain
This is my third recession ..we survived.. in the same age as Scotty
The newer rouge has been more reliable than the older ones when it comes to the cvt. You dont see them in for cvt problems as before even with them over 120000km.
lilflip416 Ive met '15-now rogues at my auto garage who crossed 150k with *minimal* trouble. Non of them knew anything about Nissan's CVT controversy
here are the facts nissan cvt tech here there are 2 types of chains in cvts 1. light duty moslty for 4cyl 2. heavy duty mostly for 6cyl the "new rogues are an oddity its a 4cyl engine with the v6 chain in the cvt, thats why they have been holding up better. i own a car with the same transmission as the "old" rogue those cars require an external cvt cooler and a fluid change every 30k and they run fine
@@hadoken1015 I looked this up a while back and the Rogue absolutely does use the push belt and NOT a chain. There are 2 versions of that transmission and the rogue gets the push belt. I don't have links but there is some good data out there on the topic with service manuals and the such. It is a better design than pre 2015 rogues though and will definitely last longer. I'd say we don't have enough data to know if they've really fixed the problem to most peoples satisfaction though... I own a Rogue and if it's still running strong at 150k miles I'll probably get rid of it - and that's from someone who prefers to buy 15 year old cars and drive them 'till they die at high miles.
Followup: I forgot to mention that there are youTube videos out there of people disassembling 2015+ rogue transmissions showing the push belt assembly.
True bought my wife a 17 model 80k rightnow city miles not a single issue. And gets great highway miles. And she put all 80k on it. All about changing fluids and not punishing the vehicle
Hello Scotty, enjoy your channel. I’m looking at buying a used Toyota, Nissan or Honda SUV like the the Rogue or RAV4. This is for you and your audience. You focused on how unreliable the Jenko CVT transmission is in the Rogue and Nissan vehicles. Since transmissions are a central part of the drivetrain and you mentioned how good Toyota transmissions are. What transmissions does Toyota use and why they have high such high reliability over 100k miles for so long?
Our 15 rogues trans had to be replaced at 18k miles and I was done with it lol but it’s at 130k now and it hasn’t had a problem since. Good thing it was well within warranty the first time.
Scotty! The man the myth the legend
The loser
GOT to say I love my Japanese Rogue, Im from Mexico
