  • After watching several of your videos now I so hope that you are doing educational talks out in public with your birds. You're charismatic and you are knowledgeable and humble and the amount of empathy and passion you have for these birds is incredible. You brought me to tears a couple of times. Please, please if you don't speak publicly about everything that you say online about owning parrots and how they should be wild and free and how difficult it is to have them please do so. Please talk to people face to face. I know you've got a huge social media following and that brings me so much joy. The impact you can have with animals right in people's faces is even larger. I so appreciate what you're doing. I can't say that enough. My gratitude for you is overwhelming.

  • I now have 3 macaws. My girl picked up what we thought was a plucking issue after the death of our bonded cockatiels so I took in a pair of Macaws and she is sooooo happy and it’s super fun sharing our lives with our feathered family. These birds are so demanding but we knew this wayyyyyy before committing to ownership and we knew the work would harden when we took two more in but we do both work from home and we’re fast workers so we have plenty of time to give them everything they need plus more (the three of them joined us on Date Night tonight). They help us make new toys for their indoor aviary.

  • Oh!! The poop! 😃😃 VERY interesting for every bird owner! If there's some sh... on my shoulder, my first reaction is: "Oh! Is the consistency o.k.? What about the colour? Is it too liquid? Are the feathers on the bottom clean?" And only when everything is fine I'm happy and gratefully get a fresh shirt while whistling! 😁

  • Our Shamrock macaw is so ridiculously high energy. I didn't realize how crazy he is until I saw this video where Mikey and Mia actually sit still for minutes at a time and willingly go back into their aviary for bedtime. Your birds actually get tired at the end of the day! Hopefully one day we can get ours focused enough to fly outdoors. That could be why there is such a big difference between my bird and yours.

    • Flight helps for sure, but diet is a huge part of it, when our guys had a bunch of fruit, and ultra processed foods they were always unsettled, they are so much more calm and chill now on a raw wholefood varied diet

      @MikeyTheMacaw@MikeyTheMacaw Жыл бұрын
    • @Mikey The Macaw & Friends Ours is on a good diet. He gets harrison's pellets and sprouts in the afternoon and the birdtricks seasonal chop in the morning (usually beans, squash or sweet potato, carrots, tubers like raddishes, and leafy greens if you aren't familiar). I genuinely appreciate the advice, though. I've considered trying your dry mix, but with most dry mixes, he just dumps them out so we are sticking with fresh for now. I guess he's just naturally hyper.

Respect to the both of you to take such good care of these two menaces! 😂 Also, I appreciate you always warning people about getting these big birds. It looks so beautiful in the videos when you guys take them to fly. Seeing that, many people might get a bird without thinking about the huge huge responsibility it is, for the rest of your life. For that reason, you can never warn people too much about getting a macaw etc. Anyhoo, best wishes to all of you from California. I❤

    • It's kind of funny how things work out. Right now I have two teen dogs and they are a hot mess. My macaw is a breeze to care for. There is the clean up but besides that he is zero trouble. Granted I know I'm lucky because he stays in his zone and doesn't tear up the house. He tears up his stuff. It's an acceptable compromise lol. As for my puppy, all my Christmas gifts were of stuff she chewed and ruined and needed to be replaced.

  • I was thinking since you guys are so good at producing very entertaining videos I was wondering if you all had considered writing a series of children's story books on the lives of the two birds. Another idea i just thought of was, if you guys could also put together an on-line book on how to raise macaws. I have seen other people that take their hobby and they publish an on-line book and they charge a fee to download a copy. 'Cause once you write it and put it out there, you guys don't have to do anything after that. I know your lives are pretty hectic already so these are just suggestions. Remember to continue to enjoy your lives. I wish I had grown up in the UK rather than the US. The US is too wild for me and I love your accents. So polished and refined.

I pulled out the new washer which I used once after purchase 18 months ago. No pressure. I kept checking everything disconnecting the nozzles and clearing the line. Motor dead.

  • I'm surprised you don't have more specific areas that are easier to clean for the birds. I did notice you have few carpeted areas - nothing worse than trying to keep carpet clean with free roaming parrots wandering around the house! I've had my pet African Greys for decades - Farful is my oldest pet and was born in 1986. Like all my pets, Farful has been with me since the day he hatched. My other 3 pet greys are a little younger. I used to breed parrots but gave it up when I realized that most people can't make the commitment to keep their birds through the years. The problem I'm faced with now is finding a place for whichever birds outlive me. My husband passed away from cancer last year; my kids are grown, living out of state and even starting to plan their own retirement! But here I am, me and my bird friends who remain like preschoolers year after year. I used to joke that parrots are like kids who never ask for college tuition and never borrow the car...almost 40 years later, it remains true.

    @JuliaBird@JuliaBird10 ай бұрын
    • They actually very very rarely will poop on the carpet, they prefer the floors which is great. And yea, their life span is such a worry.

    • @@MikeyTheMacaw Fabulous. Thank you. I need to redo my birdroom....not an easy thing to do in a very old 600 yr old house! I have been hunting for something to protect the floor (which is also of a similar age) but is also easy to clean! Thanks.
