This scene has a lot of emotional weight. Artanis and Zeratul once activated the Xel'Naga Temple together in BroodWar. Now, Artanis stands alone, without Zeratul, in a desperate bid to overload that same temple. One might feel loneliness when confronted with the memory of this place. Artanis must be thinking of Zeratul in that moment of apparent despair. Separated from the Khala, from the mentor he killed with his own hands, facing overwhelming odds, his despair must be even deeper. As he is overwhelmed by the Zerg, Artanis remembers the words of his mentor, and understands that despite being isolated, there is great pride to be found in fighting in such a state... ''For our warrior hearts are bound by honor, and tradition. Battle is waged in the name of the many...The brave who generation after generation, choose the mantle of...Dark Templar!''
@CataphractVardhan6 жыл бұрын
It also kinda has to do with the molding of Artanis as a character through the games. Remember at the start of brood war he was pretty much a cocky kid who Tassadar had seen potential in.

@bunnieskitties2932 жыл бұрын
@@bunnieskitties293 Actually I don't think they did retcon. Tassadar played incredibly important role. He destroyed Overmind, if it wasn't destroyed, Karrigan would never raise to be the leader, she would always be just an agent of Overmind and Amon would easily use them. The image we see in Zeratul's mission in WoL is one of the Xel'Naga, Ouros, who used Tassadar's likeness and connection to Zeratul to impart crucial knowledge.
@Malisman772 жыл бұрын
@@bunnieskitties293 that was never a retcon, it was always the plan. Kerrigan was created for that purpose, to unchain the zerg and bring about the fall of Amon. That was the overminds plan from the start. Though i’ll agree that Xelnaga kerrigan was lame and the final mission was a waste.

Same, it was the game I was waiting for since playing WoL in 2010 and realizing I only had 1/3 of the game, and not the 1/3 I was really wanting (protoss). I did have some disappointments though as I felt it was a bit short, since the prologue/epilogue were technically not the main Artanis campaign and also Kerrigan and the "redemption" storyline at the end. I wanted her to die, not just due to Brood War but also because of what seemed like Blizzard's own decisions like they couldn't make up their mind. All of WoL you work to "fix" her then in HotS all of that is undone.

kalimul Agreed. LotV is my favorite SC2 campaign, and probably in my top 3 across all games and expansions, but the Epilogue kills it.
@aureol99957 жыл бұрын
Agreed, except for the epilogue. The epilogue was shit. Seriously? Kerrigan turning into a Xel' Naga? Is that the best Blizzard was able to think of for the long-awaited ending of Starcraft II? They've already wasted a lot potential with her in Heart Of The Swarm (my least favorite expansion in terms of story), and now this? And as for Amon, they could had him be a villain that isn't just "big bad guy", but nope. The reason why Amon did what he did in the first place was because he believed that the Xel' Naga's Infinite Cycle was flawed, and despite that, Blizzard made him seem as a villain, rather than a character who does this "for the greater good" (even his design says "pure evil villain" even though i actually do like his design quite a bit). I'll admit, i'm not a Brood War purist (no offense to anyone who hates Starcraft II and likes Brood War), i think both Brood War and Starcraft II are equally good, but Heart Of The Swarm and Legacy Of The Void's epilogue were easily the weakest parts of Starcraft II's story.

I had problems with the premise of the story and the turn it took, with the whole prophecy thing. And Amon felt like having more potential than being your generic Marvel villain, but he was not. Kerrigan turning into a Xel'naga was dumb, as it was her design and all that "not even my final form" crap with her got out of hand. Not to mention for the most part Zeratul's badassery was gone. But with all the things I did not like - more I liked. Mostly in the details, especially in Legacy. This here, for example, had Artanis destroying the same temple he and Zeratul activated with their joined energy to kill the zerg on the planet. A building that stood as a symbol of unity. And now Artanis is not only destroying it and Shakuras itself, he is doing it alone, after he, more or less, killed Zeratul. Again to stop a zerg threat. But at the same time fighting with Zeratul's blade for the first time in the game and remembering something Zeratul probably told him before about being alone and separated from khala, and the honor of the Dark Templar. Later he ends up being pronounced Dark Templar by Vorazun who said this was his Shadow walk. I Loved the fuck out of the details in the cinematics. Even Zeratul's "My life for Aiur" had so much meaning in its context. And I really like the gameplay of the campaigns, contrary to most people, it was super fun to play. Just the overall plot was... meh... compared to the Original and Brood War.

I never thought Artanis was all that because I remember from Brood War. However SC2 put him up there if not better than Tassadar. Tassadar is a legend yes, but Artanis is more of a better leader. Unlike Tassadar he did not lead his men to their deaths.
Rumor has it, they had to construct additional pylons to warp his massive balls.
Artanis Akbar!

Wow
I can see the song going like this "cool guys don't look at explosions, they blow stuff up and then warp away"
It's funny how Artanis talks about how we must unite to be strong while he's kicking everyone's asses all alone
did you miss the "never truly alone" line? ;3
Mrshadow5014 oh, because it's like the cheesy "my friends will always be in my heart" thing?
Considering their race as a whole I'm inclined to doubt that, even without the Khala they've basically spent their lives in each-others skulls, the experiences of an Ex High templar, Lore-Wise they fight as the whole of the protoss race. ^.^
Ignacio Nieva considering Protoss it's much less cheesier.
"In the name of the many" is the key here because the ideal is that even if you are alone, you fight with others that also fight with you and understanding that is how artanis can fight on when while alone.
Artanis embodies all of the protoss, he fights with the honor of a Templar, the Skill of a Dark Templar and the ferocity of a Tal'darim.
And the technological superiority/durability of the Purifiers?
Oh yeah forgot about hem sorry, offcourse them also
This scene has a lot of emotional weight.
It also kinda has to do with the molding of Artanis as a character through the games. Remember at the start of brood war he was pretty much a cocky kid who Tassadar had seen potential in.
Concisely put. Artanis possesses all of those characteristics.
Only badasses look away from explosions.
Opened comments purely to say what you said, only thing I can add is .... "And walk away like a boss" .

Mission Impossibru Nigga :T
"Bullshit. how do you want to admire your work?"~ explosive expert from defiance.
He is very lucky that the place to which he warped had enough pylons.
ffarkasm actually, *you must construct additional pylons*
Artanis gets 200 supply with no pylons (co-op)
Artanis doesn't need Pylons (lv 15-higher Artanis in co-op starts out with max supply lol)
VYNLT he is level 15 mage
Technically he still needs them to warp in units.
I agree Artanis is a badass by his own right, but seriously Zeratul set the stage with that monologue. Basically Artanis at that very moment when he erupted out of the dogpile had become a Dark Templar.
I got shivers down my spine. You know why? Zeratuls speech.
Even the matriarch of shakuras approve that artanis has walk the shadowpath, a rite all dark templars have done.
Artanis was overshadowed in brood war because zeratul was too cool
@@lordlopikong6940 "Overshadowed", hah nicely put. Adun Toridas.
Zeratul’s original voice actor was far superior IMO. It’s a shame he passed away before SC2 was made.

His coolness level is over 9000!
"Matt, what's the level of Artanis' balls?" "It's over 9000!!!"

From a simple scout pilot to praetor and leader of the whole Protoss race What a life :)
I thought Artanis was the executor from the og starcraft and then you are a different one in the broodwar
Artanis, one-Protoss-army. Must be a hell of an armor he has, taking all those clawing Zerglings on at once...
it's funny how he was the most underdressed Protoss in SC1 but the most overdressed in SC2 XD
He has unlimited shields. XD Or an invisible sentry with unlimited energy regenerating his shields.
you have not played heroes of the storm then. Auto attack reduced shield overload cool down, that is his trait :)
well a Hierarch got to look pimp
He's also a templar. His Psi-storm is always in store :3
1:00 Shows how durable protoss really are. The shields are protecting artanis from hydralisk spines, where the cutscene in wings of liberty on char shows marines in their suits dying instantly from spines. Here we see artanis surviving damage that would have killed perhaps 10 marines!
In the marines defense most of those spines just bounced off. that means he had pretty damn good armor. Normal zealots would´ve been perforated pretty quickly under that barrage like marines. And the marines didnt had their shields equipped
DaringDanny artanis uses his shields more so than most. he overcharges them and whatnot. just look at his abilities. so he seems to have just overall better shields than his fellow protoss.
DaringDanny thats why they cost more as supply depots
Well in the lore terran marines are a little tougher.
Put some plot armor into your calculation and numbers will make sense.
The way he delivers that Psionic Storm at 1:40 gives me the chills.
More like Psionic Tornado

So artanis is a Zealot, a Dark Templar, and a High Templar in one.
Mr Mech ! THE RAGEALOT!
And a scout
and a mothership (alternate timeline)
He commands a mothership lol
Zealots are young foot soldiers, all High Templar were once Zealots, they have different gear, instead of relying on the strength and speed of the young, they focus the enhanced psionic powers of the old. Dark template are kind of cheaters, I guess you could say that their numbers were small enough that only those that could cloak were strong and skilled enough to leave Shakuras.
Man I love the style of Protoss armor.
Try to love the style of their shoulder pads, Blizzard is a massive fan of them
Alex Le Their the PROUD people, the protoss, of course they gotta have golden armor and swag. Ever since i discovered starcraft i wanted to ppay as protoss, their the coolest.
I must say I don't like the "things" on Artanis' back, they seem very uncomfortable for battle.
asdas8887 I believe those are psionic amplifiers, like the ones that adepts have
The Unholy Adventurer that makes sense, they've been bugging me the whole time, and have seriously compromised my enjoyment of what would otherwise be one of my favorite characters.
Man would I give up a lot just to experience every single cinematic of SC2 once again... After a couple of years each and every one of them still gives me goose bumps

@@Kalenz1234 he was also a cocky 4th wall breaking shitkicker in brood war, who piloted a scout.
This is what happens when you force a Protoss to get a haircut. May Amon have mercy on your soul, cause Artanis certainly isn’t gonna have any.
Like Adun and Tassadar before him, Artanis has achieved great things by seeking balance between light and dark and wielding them in unison. The third Twilight Templar.
I didn't know that's what the likes of Artanis was called. That legit gave me goosebumps.
And then they retcon Tassadar's sacrifice and make his character meaningless. And turn Kerrigan into a goodie two shoes sky fenix goddess of light and rainbow kitten energy.
@@Malisman77 They didn't retcon anything, just ignore people who say shit like this.
Playing Legacy of the Void was one of the most cathartic experiences of my life and I'm very glad of having experienced Starcraft II from day one.
I literally scream every time I watch this cinematic (EDIT): 2023 and I still feel the same I love you Artanis
Zeratul's voice.... Eargasm

Logic.
Legacy was an amazing finish to the Starcraft II storyline. Especially some of these cinematics stick with me long after finishing the campaign. I really hope Blizzard does a live action trilogy or two of movies eventually.
Ikr. Legacy was by far the most enthralling to me even though I'm a zerg main. It was so badass. Artanis was dope
I've thought about doing that sort of marathon as well. Was waiting on news of the redesign of original SC in the SC2 engine first.
Nah, the whole Amon is the devil and Kerigan turning into an angel upset me to no end. She should have died to atone for what she did, period.
kalimul Agreed. LotV is my favorite SC2 campaign, and probably in my top 3 across all games and expansions, but the Epilogue kills it.
I always thought it would be soooo awesome if as Zeratul says "Dark Templar" Artanis' right eye turned green.

Most artistic creations are an extension of real human stories and cultured traditions. So there was an exemplary times of heroes and badasses.
Indeed, but honor does not appear to be prevalent in contemporary times. Individualism reigns supreme but I feel that art like this still exists because despite our cultural evolution, most find honor to be a respectable and ideal quality.

Both Tassadar and Artanis respected Zeratul despite him being a Dark Templar. The code of the Nerazim as described, Tassadar having fulfilled years earlier. And in this moment, Artanis fulfills the same moral obligation which is expected of such warriors. Without a doubt, the most epic of all cutscenes in the history of Starcraft.

When zeratul said "choose the mantle of dark templar" artanis's eyes shouldve turned green.

I feel like Heart of the Swarm had the strongest plot out of all the newer ones. Wings of liberty did alot of plot setup, but heart of the swarm felt like a true sequel and an very satisfying end to the Mengsk arc from the first games. Especially when you realize the entirety of HOTS is basically a crazy revenge thriller set in space
@@ryang6931 Im surprised anyone could think any of them had a stronger plot than WoL in isolation of the SC2 trilogy. Considering Tychus was such a fucking hero of a plot character. And it was a genuinely well made romance story between Jimmy and Kerrigan. Then again, I guess most dont appreciate romance stories, so it might just fall on deaf ears.

Mission accomplished! Lets ROLL OUT - Optimus Prime in disguise 😊
Like a Boss
1:48 “The brave, who generation after generation, are chosen for the mantle of… GREEN LANTERN”!
That truly lives up to the claim "badass" ...wow! Even if I don't the story it's over the top visually!
This was a glorious time. Not anymore now that -Amon- Blizzard nerfed Protoss.
If you read backwards Artanis, you'll get a surprise, as I did when I clicked him too many times.
"There is a certain music to it"
OMFG!!!!!
Karax: Did you have weapon enhancements I didn't know about?
He shattered this world in the name of his brethren. This is something one can aspire to.
Imagine if this was the trailer for LIFE #hypeImplosion
You know what guys? We need a movie series of their stories
Come back every month to watch this video, all i want is to be like him.
"GENERATION after GENERATION" gets me everytime
I never thought Artanis was all that because I remember from Brood War. However SC2 put him up there if not better than Tassadar. Tassadar is a legend yes, but Artanis is more of a better leader. Unlike Tassadar he did not lead his men to their deaths.
