The first video in the series about the build up of OZNIVA's 1990 Lada Niva. After breaking the diff out on the trail, the time had come to upgrade the axles. The Niva is already part way through process of receiving JK wrangler axles front and rear, Custom Long Arm suspension with 12" Travel FOX coilover shocks front and rear. We are part way into the Peugeot XUD 1.9 Turbo Diesel engine conversion with new adapter plate and flywheel spacer hub under way.
Рад за Нивку.Будем следить,👍
спасибо за добрые слова, я с нетерпением жду публикации следующего видео
Awesome work! Good to watch a niva mod video in English for a change. Very keen to see more!
More videos on the way Adam
Can't wait to see it finished
Thanks Gary, im keen to get it out on the trail as soon as i can.
Good niva sport )
Thanks Ivan

Awesome. I am contemplating the same. I have the xud9 in and lockers front and back but doing a diff or an shaft almost every outing. Was looking at Jeep XJ axles. Could you confirm again what axles your fitting?
Just a question did those jeep rimz go on without modifications or did u have to change it
Great build video but the audio is a bit quiet will be following it as you go
thanks steve, will see if i can improve the volume for the next one.
nice build man, that's a lot of work wow. can you update us on how it ended up? Btw are you using Dana 30 and 35 as ur diffs? Hope you aren't using Dana 35, cuz that thing is so weak and can't handle a locker hehe. JK owners hate it.
Fucking hell thats epic, I have been contemplating something similar with mine but with a VW 1.9 Edit: and probably landrover axles because of how many in the UK
thanks mate, i'm looking forward to getting it back on the trails again soon. Stay tuned for the next couple of build videos. The VW 1,9 tdi is a good motor, land-rover axles should work pretty well especially if you can pick a salisbury for the back.
@@ozniva9724 1,9 tdi is excellent engine for car, not sure if for this thing, it is not exactly for harsh enviroment, the original lada engine is great, though bit weak. i would rather put there the 2,7 liter ZMZ-40906 or ZMZ-409051(it is basically the same engine), it is a russian engine, and it is more robust than the 1,9 tdi(i mean it preforms in harsh conditions better, without troubles), and the bonnet of the truck should be large enough, it is quite large... great idea with the diff locks though:-))) i leave a like for that:-)), just be careful with that engine, that ZMZ-40906/ZMZ-409051 has a lot of torque, although it is a petrol engine, not sure about using the lada gearbox and clutch:-) it might be even worse than with that diff:-)))
Hello, I wanted to know what relationship you are using in the differentials dana 30
Hi, Mate, any chance of a follow-up, my RHD Niva in the UK has had a steering box go, and well-converting to solid axles seems cheaper and easier than sourcing another, and I love yours and what you are doing with it
Man are you talking! I'm on the verge of getting one myself. Know all about their shortcomings, but want one none the less. Been building and fixing cars and pick-up's for many years. Came across this bloke with this Niva, and really loved it! Any way.... cheers from S.A!
@@andriesviljoen4309 they are wonderful vehicles with some funky shortcomings, the main issues is sourcing rhd parts, generic parts are plentiful and cheap though, I would buy it, they are rising in value, 3 years ago I paid £450 for a complete driving one, similar ones now cost 10k in the UK (half a new Hilux) 👍
Hi from Spain!!!! , I have a question, I'm planning to use a blokka rear and a Self-locking differential in front. Do you think with your experience the rear blokka is good for street use, parking... Or a nightmare? Thanks a lot!!
Hey there. You still on YT? What is the progress on the Niva? Really looking foreward to more vids about this project. Be well... from South Africa.
great build I love it (RESPECT) right now Iam collecting parts now for my NIVA and Iam going solid axle route using jeep axles too I was searching for tj rubicon axles but after i saw your video jk axles are on my list why didn't you go for dual triangulated 4 link rear ? for the front setup i want to draw your attention to few points *the drive shaft will be at severe angle *font lower link mounts shouldn't be at car center the rear lower links though are in good position relative to t.case flange but the front ones are far back from t.case flange (will cause more drive shaft problems and also pinion bearing and t.case flange fail) and from other perspectives the over all suspension geometry front to back will be more balanced on steep angles and diagonal articulation *front upper links are on very bad location and angle there length will cause a lot of pinion angle problems *recalculate the anti-squat and anti-dive values they seem to have problems with this links mounting locations keep up i can't wait to see it finished and tearing up the trail
Thanks for the kind words Maged. Im a fan of the JK axles have worked with them alot before so they are a known quantity for me. I didnt go 4 link for road certification reasons, there are certain limitations on how much i can change the mounting arrangements in my state, too much of a change and it becomes a owner constructed vehicle which is very difficult to get certified here. The suspension mount position choices were purely compromises from the ideal for packaging and again to stay within the certifying engineers limits of modification. Sadly in some areas i do not have enough flexibility to completely optimize the design choices. You are correct that they arent ideal, initially i had calculated my ideal anti squat angles and link locations but i was forced to change for packaging and certification reasons, Firmly a balancing act. I look forward to seeing your machine as you start working on it sounds like you have some strong plans for it too.
What are the limits in terms of axle to vehicle mounting locations ? From what I’ve seen in the video you already modified all the mounting points on the car
Love this thing! How do you think the Niva box is going to go with the pug engine and those diffs/tyres
hopefully they will be ok, as long as im sensible with the accelerator pedal.
Hi Oz Niva, I have procured a Peugeot XUD 1.9 Turbo Diesel Intercooler engine and as I already own a Lada Niva 1.6, I would like to ask you if it's worth fitting the diesel engine on the car. Can you let me know of any pros/cons in doing so, as you seem to have already gone through this path and also how easy it is to do the conversion (to the diesel engine)? - Thank you for your time.
Why do you use the custom flange etc. as nivas were available with exactly the same engine. At least in some markets. Wouldn't it be easier to simply buy the engine mated with niva gearbox? Great project... Why should everyone must drive Landcruiser, Patrols etc..
Hi awesome build, just wondering what Peugeot the xud comes out of as i can't find a good cheap 2ltr fiat
Hi Richard, the xud was from a Peugeot 406 sedan. Still not that easy to find these days as the more modern common rail engines are in most of the wrecking yards.
@@ozniva9724 thanks for that, i found a tdi 2002 406 but maybe a bit too far to pick up but have found a cheap 3.0 Diesel hiace motor. Any idea if that would fit?
Hi Richard. In South Africa we do a transplant with the 1500 Nissan power plant (same as the trusty old 1400 ldv), and it is a screaming success. Light on fuel yet with enough power to do what it does best. It makes for an awesome daily driver. It is used with the Nissan 5spd gearbox mated up with the Niva transfer. The engine and box fits very easily.
Where do you buy a Lada? I've looked around on carsales and other Aussie websites and they seem pretty rare.
I bought mine off Gumtree, keep an eye out on Facebook groups like Lada niva owners Australia they come up from time to time.
*How many money cost it all?*
Mate you reckon you can get AutoVAZ to import Ladas to Australia again? Should be possible with their Renault partnership
Would love to see new ladas down under in Australia again. I suspect they don't have enough volume in our market to justify right hand drive specific version.
What's happening with the niva now a days update video?
please help me... i have a samurai with 33 inch wheels can i put a stock front a rear axels for lada on it ? can they handel thos big wheels ?(i dont know what is the gear ratio for a stock lada axels )
the stock lada diffs and axles are definitely not up to the task of turning 33" wheels reliably. I ran a modified shafts and upgraded gears with aftermarket locker and it still broke teeth with 31's. Depends on your situation but i would not recommend them as an upgrade. Thats why i am upgrading to jeep diffs.
Hi are you going to be upgrading the steering setup to power steering or steering rack?
Upgrading to a larger power assisted steering box.
Oh great interested to see what you use and how you do it 👍
@@ozniva9724 can you please do a vid on that ? English niva here :) steering boxes are getting hard for rhd
Hi, what is the exact name of these spring shock absorbers?
Thanks for watching Alexey. Fox 2.0 emulsion shock 12" travel.
why don't you use the clutch bell of 21215?
I would love to use one, but they were never released here and they don't seem to be available anymore.
Yo any update with the niva
What are the vehicle axles?, looks like jeep cherokee axles?
Crypto the axles are from a jk wrangler
its been a while since you posted any updates about the project , you gave up or what ?
i definitely have not given up, just been very busy with work but very much looking forward to getting back into getting it back on the trails again. It is definitely not forgotten.
Как дела у нивы? Когда будет новое видео?
Я был занят работой и в последнее время не имел возможности начать работать в Ниве. Я с нетерпением ждал, чтобы вернуться к работе на нем в ближайшее время. это определенно не забыли
