    • Young people aren't dying at higher rates now than in previous history. In fact people are living longer and this was just an act of nature. Still it is a tragedy and RIP to the skier.

  • I want to suggest to Skiers of all different Disciplines that are winding down their Competitive to give Ski Mountaineering a try. The adherent Dangers of Climbing up a Mountain (or using Skins) then Skiing back down are mostly taken care of such as Avalanche Control. Go ISMF!

  • *What causes an avalanche and how do you survive one?* ❄️

    @JEREMY_usa@JEREMY_usa Жыл бұрын
    • This avalanche was caused by another group of riders. They happen when there’s a lot of fresh snow that hasn’t set (packed in) & the snow is disturbed (someone riding it). Wearing an avalanche air bag significantly increase the chance of survival. If you get buried, you’re not getting yourself out. It sets like cement. You have to be wearing an avalanche beacon & hope your friends are able to find you & dig you out in time. Best bet is to stay calm (can’t imagine that would be easy) and try to preserve your oxygen while waiting for rescue. The photographer the skier was with was also buried & was uncovered after 25 minutes - miraculously he was fine.
