Dedicated to the memory of Dawn Brancheau . This is the previous SeaWorld Shamu show called "Believe" filmed in San Diego, California on March 3, 2009., On February 24, 2010 at SeaWorld Orlando the orca "Tilikum" drowned Dawn - an experienced female trainer as at least two dozen tourists looked on from above a whale tank and from an underwater viewing area. Following this event, trainers no longer go into the water with the orcas at SeaWorld parks shows.

  • I understand that people love to see them. They are powerful, intelligent, beautiful and majestic. You immediately fall in love with them. But you don’t see what happens after the show…Orcas are not made for living in these small pools!! They are born for living in the biggest oceans on earth.

I watched blackfish for the first time in my senior year of high school a few years back and it destroyed me. you start to feel guilty for even seeing them at some point, whether it was in your control or not. I spend a lot of my time now looking into more information. if anyone can stomach more hard truth, they should check out john hargrove's interviews. he was a trainer at many seaworlds and marineland for about 14 years and his insight is...harrowing.

  • Incredible presentation with so emotions and that dark side of captivity.

    @KarelChytilArt@KarelChytilArt2 жыл бұрын
    • There IS no "dark side of captivity" regarding ANIMALS. Stop anthropomorphizing animals! Even the more intelligent mammals (like chimps, orangutans, dolphins, orcas, etc.) do not plan out and pursue careers, accumulate cultural knowledge and transmit it to future generations, carry out any long-term projects, etc.. They all lack the uniquely human characteristic of the CONCEPTUAL level of cognition (which involves a sophisticated level of mental abstraction and integration of perceptual impressions). They are not people! ...These mammals live in annual cycles of hunting and eating, migrating, mating, rinse-and-repeat, year-in and year-out. In captivity, they are relieved of the burden of satisfying one powerful need: the pursuit of food. Their intelligence (which they'd normally use in coordinated hunting and capturing of food) is used in learning the tricks that their trainers teach them and interacting with their human handlers in other ways. ...And, why is it that you "free the orcas!" types always omit to recall that there WAS the freeing of a captive orca: the 'Free Willy' orca, Keiko? He was a big story back in the late '90s and early 2000s. Now, he is largely forgotten. Keiko was successfully taught (by his rehabilitators) how to hunt for his food. What he wouldn't do was integrate into a pod of orcas (which would have made his survival better, since they often coordinate to hunt for their food). ...The scientists who rehabilitated Keiko KNEW that he could survive and hunt enough food, because he was of sufficient weight after his journey from Iceland (where he was freed) to Norway, where they found him hanging around the fishing village in a Norwegian fjiord. He was able to eat enough on his ocean journey. However, he was back among humans within a couple of months of being "freed". He preferred human companionship over joining any pod of wild orcas. And, that's all that would happen if you were to free THESE orcas. (They'd just come into harbors and hang around with humans. ...They would actually be safer in those tanks in random harbors.)

Curved fins on orcas means they don’t have the right diet and could be given bad fish, it’s also from sadness (yes they can actually be sad orcas actually have emotions just like dolphins etc.) it’s also from not enough swimming space. It’s not just a cute “Aw look at his fin it’s curved!” no. It’s a bad thing. And most people already know that SeaWorld abuses their animals and other places too. Some other places might be nice to them, but none of it is healthy for the orcas at all. They need a lot more water than the small pools. They live in the ocean with much more freedom. This is not the way to teach children about animal conservation. This only teaches them that magnificent and highly intelligent creatures like orcas can be treated merely as pets to entertain people. Children should respect wildlife and the only way to teach them the values of conservation is by doing it in the respectful way. It’s stupid to think everyone “deserves” to see orcas so Seaworld should keep torturing them cause I don’t have the money to see them in the wild?!? Ridiculous. Take your kids to the forest and watch the wild birds, snorkel with them next time when at the beach to sea the beautiful underwater world, show them David’s Attenborough movies. This has more value than a visit to Seaworld and allows children to learn and experience wild animals and beauty of nature. Tickets to Seaworld are extremely expensive by the way. • I remember when I was in kindergarten, my parents took me and my brother to Orlando for summer vacation. the day we went to seaworld, it was sickenly hot. at the time I couldn't pronounce shamu so I ended up saying shampoo. I remember how special I felt when I was picked by one of the trainers to stand on that blue platform on the stage with them and meet the orcas. my little mind was too pure and young to understand what was really happening. I was lucky. I got to meet a handsome large male whose name I can't remember. I so simply called him shamu. I can still remember how his shiny black and white head felt when I related my hand on it. it felt wet and cool in the cruel heat. when I put my hand on his head, I felt safe and at home. when I had arrived at the show with my family, I had looked through the glass walls of the case and cried out in fear when I saw the huge orcas in the deep tank. I was so small at the time, just learning to swim, and the thought of the deep tank with huge creatures lurking within frightened me. but after I met shamu, I was no longer afraid. when I left the stage, my dad scooped me up, for he had stood nearby, waiting for me. I was so happy. my dad bought me a shamu plushiest and a shamu Lego set before we went to our hotel room. those were such happy moments. I am 13 now, and I am wiser. what were once happy memories of Orlando are now tinted with the harsh reality that my joy in that moment was only helping shame's misery. I sometimes dream of being in the seaworld tank,swimming with tilikum and dawn brancheau, one hand holding onto tilikum dorsal fin, the other holding dawn's hand. I always look at dawn and see a smile on her face. and when I look away from her face, I am no longer in seaworld, yet I am still holding onto dawn and her beloved tilikum. and then I realize that we are in the ocean.surrounded by every orca from seaworld. suddenly I let go and begin crying. dawn hugs me and she starts to tell me something, that's when I always wake up. its my favorite dream

  • The show is spectacular and what these orcas (the largest dolphins I just learned and not actually whale's) and trainers can do is phenomenal. But just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done. It's actually heartbreaking to see these magnificent, superior beings doing these tricks and stunts for a meager handful of dead fish. They have no choice but to be there, but they deserve to be free and in their natural habitat, as do all wild animals. The psychological damage caused by captivity is unethical and unacceptable.

    @5hineepropertyofleetaemin@5hineepropertyofleetaemin5 жыл бұрын
    • I don't see any psychological damage done to these whales. Have you seen any behind the scenes footage, ever? They're completely fine, unlike many other orcas at aquariums that couldn't care less about them. Also, they don't do tricks for fish. They will get fed regardless of their perfomance. Also, considering what happened to the last captive orca that was released... it's a very, VERY bad idea to release them. Sorry, I don't want to see them dead or actually stressed out

      @kawaiiyanderlee9616@kawaiiyanderlee96165 жыл бұрын
    • @メKawaiiYanderleeメ yes I saw footage on Inside the Tanks, Voiceless and Blackfish about the suffering. It stands to reason that they wouldn't be happy. They are confined to a space equivalent to a drop in the ocean, the place they should be. They are not with their pods, who, ordinarily, they would spend their entire lives with. They are highly social and intelligent and have their own cultures and languages. They are apex predators. Doing tricks for dead food day after day, year after year, being separated from their young, being placed in unnatural 'pods' etc would be depressing. And they don't get fed when they perform 'badly' or incorrectly. The day DB died Tilikum had incorrectly swum twice around the tank instead of once and food was withheld. I did see what happened with Keiko, but what is very, VERY BAD is capturing them in the first place for people's entertainment or financial gain etc

What's hilarious is that many of these whale watching tours will have orcas who will volunteer to be part "the show". They stay in the area where the boats come and will do funny stuff like leaping out of the water, and splashing the boats with their tails. They do it for fun and most importantly BY CHOICE.

Yes they have ended there breeding program but these whales live for years so sea world will still have whales to enslave for human entertainment. Sea world doesn’t have to close they can become an aquarium and also a rescue , rehabilitation and release centre for injured dolphins and whales and other aquatic animals people can still come visit but the animals don’t have to perform that would be a lot better

  • The female trainer at 10:51 was eaten by one of the orcas her name is Don, and that was the reason they made the documentary "Blackfish" ... for those who haven't watched it yet, you may want to check it out. You also need to think twice if you are OK with imprisoning these creatures. Orcas in the wild have an average life expectancy of 60 to 70 years for males and 80 to over 100 for females. The average age of death for orcas who have died at SeaWorld is 13 years old. In the wild, despite centuries of sharing the ocean, there has been only a single reliable report of an orca harming a human being. Because of the stress involved in being deprived of everything that is natural and important to orcas in captivity, orcas have attacked and killed three humans just since 1991 and many others have been injured. An orca called Tillikum have killed and injured over 80 person during in its life in the SeaWorld. It is just Sad, so sad.

No. They will find new trainers. These Orcas have spent the majority of their lives in captivity now, it would be very risky to release them. There are medical pools and there’s different pools all over the park for them that people don’t see. They keep them really active with the shows and they said that not every show is the same that they switch things up so the whales don’t get bored. I watched Seaworld behind the scenes Dawn was in it but the work and LOVE that goes into these Whales and dolphins it’s just through the roof. I went to Miami Seaquarium to see Lollita the killer whale she’s 54 years old and lives in the smallest tank in the world. She only does like a 10 minute show two times a day three times a week but it must be really depressing to be in a 30 foot pool. I’m sure you saw the movie free Willy. Due to peoples outrage they released him it was a $20 million project that failed, they let him loose in Iceland, he traveled 900 miles to find human companionship in Norway. He saw Whales but didn’t want anything to do with them, he followed boats, showing up in peoples beachfront backyards. I’m sure he kind of felt confused and abandoned. He couldn’t find food so a lot of people won’t tell you this but this is what really happened he died of starvation, loneliness, pneumonia. After 25 years in captivity he was used to the love of humans, being fed by humans, his body also adapted to the chlorinated pool, Which was a different temperature than Iceland and I’m sure that’s why he got sick he died 4 months after being “freed” So people need to chill out with releasing the Orcas, the violent ones Are the ones that would probably have to go to a sea pen by the ocean but that’s even risky. There Phasing out orcas and sea world and there is no more breeding so this will be the last of its kind and now I would say maybe 30 or 40 years from now sea world would be shut down because people come to see the killer whales. But nothing was more magical than believe, They are so smart! They hear the music and never miss a beat, One of the trainers said they picked up all the training in less than a month, as a human I couldn’t learn all that in a year LOL
