Benjamin Zand visits one of the biggest drug lords, and finds out how the civil war in neighbouring Syria means the farms have been able to flourish.

My neighbours are from Lebanon. They moved to London 4/5 years ago, lovely family, really good people, I smoke weed with eldest son who's in his 20's. One thing I want to say about them is when they moved in, not long after my dad passed away, leukaemia. When the funeral hearse left from outside our home for the funeral, all the family came outside and watched, they didn't say a word. A week or two later there was a knock on the door, I opened it to find the husband and wife with freshly cooked food, huge plates of rice, chicken, all sorts. I was a bit taken back by it, then they gave their condolences, I said you didn't have to do all this, he said no we have to do this, we are neighbours. I almost started to well up. As I said, lovely people.

Im half irish half Lebanese. Both my parents escaped civil wars, my parents were very loving but in a cold way. It pushed me to grow up pretty quickly. I had a pretty good social view of the world by 6-7 years old and still have alot of those same views. I love Lebanon.

In the comments I read a lot of people from the region saying that over there hasheesh refer to just drugs in general, not only weed. So basically the guy is saying that DRUGS are bad for people, he is talking about all drugs, heroin etc too. In the west we only mean a type of weed derivative when we say hasheesh, that is why this misconception is easily made.
@Ryan Anderson it's a good point to bring up. One can imagine that adding in some black tar heroin could improve the quality of the high. That's why pot should be legal and tested by labs like in California.
