Donna Ventura went out to lunch and her family says she ordered the special roll at a sushi restaurant. An hour later, Ventura was clinging to life with severe food poisoning. She later died in the hospital. The health department says the morel mushrooms that were served to Ventura were raw. They also say over 50 individuals reported becoming sick after consuming morel mushrooms at Dave's Sushi Restaurant in Bozeman, Montana. Her family is suing the restaurant which denies any wrongdoing. Inside Edition’s Jim Moret has more.

    • The problem is the choice to use Morel mushrooms. They can be toxic, and even cooking them might not mitigate it. Its possible they might have even been shipped the wrong species of mushroom. In a way I agree with them, they didn't know the ones they were serving were an issue if uncooked, and even cooking them might not have made them safe. Bottom line is that the FDA needs to update their guidelines to include recommended best practices for preparation, or even possibly consider banning them outright.

    • Right! Even If even a few people who ate at the same restaurant get sick, it's obviously from something they consumed at that restaurant!! This poor Husband and family, needs to find a good Attorney!! Have each individual tested for signs of this deadly mushroom

    • they do, but Morel is a special mushroom, it is toxic and is only allowed to be eaten cooked, and even then it is still toxic and the maximum amount one can eat is jsut a few hundred grams. Basically it contains a toxin which destructs red cells in the blood. Besides there is the false Morel, which looks very similar and is highly toxic even when cooked.
