    • @@blankbruno70 @ToumalRakesh I played with Arachne multiple times. Didn't "need" to use it, but it was fun. This looks nice.

  • I have a project that lasts a few years, which consists of implementing an rpi-zero on a pci 10/100 network card. No configuration is necessary in Windows 98, the system makes requests normally, the network card sends it to rpi, it does all the hard work, and returns it to the network card ready to be rendered in the most compatible way possible with Internet Explorer 5.

  • Fantastic! Thanks for letting us know about this! I'm just amazed at how well it works on old and limited hardware.

  • There's plenty of hardware encryption solutions that are amenable to being put on an Isa card. I wouldn't rule out https just yet.

    • Offloading the https to a retro-proxy has worked very well for me these last few days. If you have any examples of isa card stuff I'd love to hear about them

    • @@AlsGeekLab there are Isa cryptographic co-processor cards, but most of them were made around 1997 and are pretty rare. Still, there are cryptographic co-processors for embedded systems which could be easily interfaced to a PC. For example, Analog Devices DS28S60 has an SPI interface and could do the job. Even just a raspberry pi Pico on an Isa card with some voltage level shifters could do the job. There is a sound card based on the same arrangement that can emulate a gravis ultrasound, an ad-lib, or a sound blaster 1.5. cryptography should be no problem.

  • Cool, I have an XT clone I'm trying to fix. It will have V20 chip, 2MB EMS, XT-IDE, and Hercules. This should push it to it's limits! I wouldn't mind seeing a Windows 3.0 real mode browser, and Windows 3.1 standard mode browser.

  • Of course it's going to be able to do https if you have a library for it, you may just have to wait a bit longer to load pages. That's not a "never" thing.

    • I don't think it'll ever be able to do it on a low end computer like an xt to be honest, they are 16/8 bit machines and processing 256/512/1024 but encryption keys is just so high end for that sort of a CPU, it wouldn't be worth waiting for. The solution to offload to a raspberry pi or a nuc or something using retro-proxy is a great solution and works great for me
