  • Makes sense - something that was tailor-made to fulfill a purpose performs better than something that was retrofitted to try and fulfill an alternate purpose. That aside, Copics are expensive as hell, and I can see that airbrush peripheral absolutely draining a marker rather quickly. So the airbrush makes more practical sense considering how cheap airbrush paint is, and how much more paint you can get per pot after thinning it.

  • So the advantages of a normal airbrush are that you can use it on food with food safe colors, you can use may different types of paints and inks with it, and you can also use it for art purposes. The Copic airbrush is useful for art only purposes, you can’t airbrush food with it unless you want to poison someone (which is also something you can use an airbrush for lol) Edit: reading some of the comments brings up a valid point as well. Copic markers are expensive as hell but airbrush paint is relatively inexpensive in comparison.

  • If the airbrush makes crumbly noises, the paint is already slightly dry. x) What should pay attention to is that the paint dries very quickly in the airbrush and needs to be cleaned more often during spraying. If bubbles come out of the top of the cap, the paint has already dried somewhat, which may not look so nice when sprayed. Here 1 to 2 drops of water help to clean the nozzle.

Great work learning so much so quickly though, and a great choice of airbrush too. The trick with working very close to the surface is to lower the pressure, and apply paint in tiny spurts, maintaining continuous airflow but rocking the trigger back and forth to release small amounts of paint and then immediately dry it with the airflow and repeat as needed.

And just because he is legally allowed to do something doesn't make it the ethically correct choice. Not that I actually care, I'm just playing devil's advocate. And like the other guy said, completely possible this was filmed a while ago.

  • Coptic just seems to be what LetraJet was back in the mid 80's. Drawbacks to the Letrajet was, they depleted markers like crazy. It was a good tool for small areas needed for comps, but that was about it. The airbrush on the other hand has a learning curve (which is fun), but once you learn it it's amazing. Coptic I would use for small comp work when I would be in a time crunch for a comp presentation to a client.

Airbrush painting almost always requires constant masking and re-masking so you can have accuracy in edges, and to control the over-spray. That is absolutely standard operating procedure - you didn't cheat at all - you went pro without even trying! Love your videos, man! You are so encouraging to everyone, and it's wonderful!

Anyway, just wanted to tell you, you might prefer learning kinesthetically, but you will learn faster if you incorporate other methods of stimulating your brain at the same time, so don't throw away your trial by error method, but reading or watching a video will supplement that really effectively.
