School of Saberfighting is one of the first teams in the world that specialises in public performance of duels inspired by Star Wars, and also provides training for those who wish to learn this form of stage and on-sceen lightsaber combat.

It may sound weird to some, but as a martial artist, I've heard many times the complaints about how "star wars duels" are not realistic and the swings are not going to connect. I'm tired of hearing that. I think we should apreciate It by the art of the choreography itself. If you want to see "real swordfighting", go and watch it. But don't complain if you can't see the amount of effort, experience and artistry behind every second of this video. It's not supposed to be realistic, it's supposed to be cool, and it really IS
Oh, I see you're a man of culture as well! Great thoughts! Couldn't agree more
And those people are forgetting the in-universe reason, Force users can sense their opponents next move in an instinctual type of way which is why lightsaber duels are long, fast and overly choreographed, and as for all the spins and twirls, thats to confuse the opponent since all the blades coming from different directions distracts them from their foresight
Besides, in Star Wars they can see the future. That's why it gets so flashy, they're effectively whiffing their swings because they just found out it won't connect. it gives the illusion of flashy, when in actuality they're kind of just flailing around. If BOTH are doing that, well, they're trying to beat someone who can tell the future. Things need to get flashy and spinny, even when you effectively abandon your swings because you, again, just found out it won't hit.
@@caderen5624 And the ability to tell the future.
Same here as a fencer and member of hema.
I really enjoyed the portrayal of Anakin's distinct fighting style. Nobody pressures an opponent like him.

Props to all the actors for their performance. I loved watching the Anakin actor tear through the mooks like it was nothing. His high speed, very force of nature style is recreated perfectly. An excellent display of the Chosen One’s power. The Obi Wan actor did amazing with how Obi Wan fights. Always on the defensive, trying to find that one opportunity to end the fight instantly. @@crisduta6229 I find your lack of not understanding math disturbing (cause you actually noticed that).
I love how they choreograph Obi and Ani to their characters, so few people understand the intense individuality in one's own fighting style, so many times I'd see a move and be like "oh! That's so Anakin" or etc, and they even understood how Physically Domineering Anakin was, he was an aggressive fighter and would look to subvert a more formal saber duelist by throwing them off with physical combat, which is why he was actually able to overcome Dooku, he did what Dooku didn't expect due to his strict formality and pretentious elitism, he physically interupted proper saber combat.
(Me) when I play assassin's creed if we has order 66 0:35
While I agree with basically your whole comment, Dooku’s “pretentiousness”, as one of the greatest duelists of the Order, was highly justified. He just wasn’t ready to face the overwhelming strength of one of the greatest users of Djem So ever (who also happened to have the best Force sensitivity out of all the Jedi).
@@jakobrenner2230 Dooku was also led to believe by Palpatine that Anakin was just supposed to capture him, hence why he was so shocked when Palpatine said "kill him, kill him now." So Dooku completely underestimated Skywalker. If Dooku hadn't underestimated him and actually went all out, I have no doubt he would have won that duel quite handily.
The coreography of soresu and jim so are absolutely beautiful here and i would like to see what else is cooking up in the combat oven
@@jakobrenner2230 And while *I* agree with basically *your* whole comment as well, you're actually quite incorrect about one thing: Anakin's level of Force sensitivity. If he *truly did* have the "best" Force sensitivity out of *all* the Jedi, then he wouldn't have beaten by someone such as Obi-Wan (who defeated him *twice* btw) and not only that, but he also wouldn't have been *constantly* as well as *consistently* overshadowed by other higher-ranking Jedi such as Yoda and Mace Windu as two prime examples either so while Anakin was indeed quite powerful in his own right, he *still* was pretty far from being *THAT* powerful in the end.
That fight sequence starting at 0:47 was literally one of the best lightsaber tactics in star wars. It was obviously from anakin vs obi wan. The parrying of the saber into a hand grapple and mid section cut is badass af.

They really nailed the style of dueling of both Anakin and Obi Wan. Anakin is more rentless and cruel sometimes. He is agressive and doesn't care to kill his opponents, that's why he was able to deal more than one enemy easily. Meanwhile, Obi Wan, being more pacifist, does his best to injure or disarm his opponent, hence why he took way longer to deal with his enemy compared to Anakin. Disarming or finding openings to incapacitate is way harder than killing.
I love how anakin killed like 4 instantly and obi wan was fighting the same person in the entire fight XD
Pretty much in character.
Treated them like the younglings
I bet Anakin was thinking of a nice Jawa juice or some delicious death sticks and that’s why he lost to Obi
To be fair the two in the back were clearly above the rest.
That’s accurate

Basically like Sith Warriors during the old republic era
Holy shit, they both look exactly like Obi-Wan and Anakin. The guy who’s Obi-Wan looks like him from attack of the clones, and the guy playing Anakin looks like him from revenge of the Sith. Awesome 👏
This is what I've always wanted to see. A balls to wall, very well choreographed, prolonged lightsabre duel. Duels like these help to emphasise just how invincible anakin and obi wan were as duelists.
deadass they were 2 high level duelists who just didn't get show it off that much cuz they were always fighting mf droids
@@lordreiman8352 you mean they actually fought other top tier duelists of their era such as ventress and dooku? Yeah, they totally didn't show off much.
@@lapplandkun9273 problem with their duels with ventress, dooku, grievous etc is that ventress is f tier garbage compared to either of them, dooku in all their fights is blatantly better that its just too ez to getting bopped by anakin in less than minute, and theres just not any good duels between obi and grievous, except in rots. Duels in the movies and eu just aren't prolonged enough to be truly satisfying, and in some cases arent choreographed well enough. Such as in rots obi vs grievous there are just too many close ups and over the shoulder shot just don't work with grievous and its hard sometimes to tell wtf is going on. Another example would be a new hope and let's be truly honest, nostalgia and good story writing be damned, that fight was fucking pitifully choreographed and written.

@@nonosetradome I concur
You seen Ryan vs Dorkman?
I absolutely agree. The sequels were artless flailing in comparison to this. I would be okay with a character like Kylo fighting with some raw aggression and an unrefined style as befitting his character, but all of the fights felt that way regardless of who was fighting. And there was so much less attention to the choreography. You can see blatant whiffs in the fight against the guards in Snoke's throne room. The prequels did so much to demonstrate how duels could dramatize characters with the use of distinct, character-driven movement styles. And none of the fights came anywhere close to the sustained spectacles of the duels in Episodes I & III. They chucked all of that in favor of lots of heavy swings and grunting. This video takes those concepts of character-driven movement style and sustained spectacle and tells a story with them. The folks at Disney obviously had more resources, but they didn't understand what makes a lightsaber duel exciting and compelling to watch.
@@Korgano agreed, the whole sequel felt like a cash grab to me, Ill watch again cause Star Wars but still underwhelming.
