  • I found it interesting that the second chick didn’t make any kind of noise, but rather just had a blank nonchalant stare of “Oh. I’m being eaten alive. That’s unfortunate. Oh well, not much I can do about that.”

  • This is tragic for the birds. But that's nature. I filmed something similar, but in this case, mother bird attacked the snake more aggressively and successfully and was able to protect her chicks.

  • What a courageous attempt of the parents to try to save their babies from a murderous snake though I wish they have a way of knowing when the snake is more likely to attack the innocent and powerless baby birds. I think there is a possible way for birds to defend against the predators and the options is for the birds to be poisonous. If all birds are poisonous, then they could acquire a protective way to defend themselves from predators.

  • I've been in the avian field now for nearly 40yrs. And have worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. And it was quite sad for me seeing this Red Whiskered Bulbul trying too fight off this snake. Mother did everything should could too save her fledglings to no avail.

  • It's almost as if the chicks enjoyed the experience, like a relaxing massage. Also, those parents are so stupid and cowardly, you know you can peck the snake in the eye right? Even if it were venomous or something (which I doubt since it's a garden variety), it's pre-occupied trying to swallow your baby.

    • You do know that birds don’t have equal intelligence to a human right, so obviously it wouldn’t realize pecking the snake’s eye is the best choice. Also the bird isn’t a coward. It obviously doesn’t want to die and if it dies saving those chicks, those chicks are still screwed anyway.
