  • Before you use that sharpener, get a brace for the clamp!! If you don't you may get uneven bevels and if you do it's a great sharpener.

    • I believe what he's referring to is a little bit of a design flaw (for lack of a better term) with this particular sharpener. The clamp for the knife has some "flex" and there are a few after market things you can get to "brace" the clamp and prevent any flex.

  • The angle sharpener is an awesome system...the arm goes underneath the magnet, btw😂...also, the clamp pulls out, its held in by magnets too and is easier for me to pull it out & turn knife over than to push the button to switch sides👍 Oh & stick a piece of wood or plastic under the clamp cause it'll sag down a lil when sharpening & a block of wood will keeper stiff & keep perfect bevels!

  • If you are trying to sharpen a syderco pm2, you can't get right to the base of the edge as the plastic on the sides of the stone is too thick. Works great on knives with a good sharpening coil. I find that I get a better looking edge with my Lansky guided system. Just an FYI:)😊

    @timnichol6566@timnichol656612 күн бұрын
  • The magnetic part for the stones go underneath up into the housing. Not on top so it flops all around. I don’t own one but can tell that’s how it’s made. I’ve been wanting to get into sharpening and learning on my value spydercos and this looks like the perfect way to get started! Looks kind of error proof

    • I like the model that's a step above this one. (This one def seems like the most bang for your buck model tho) Just get the clamp brace for sure. I know how to sharpen with stones plenty well but I am bad about having the blade bevels a lil uneven lol and I get annoyed with a stone after awhile. I highly recommend something like this if you're interested I do not get the whole using stones only elitism. Its definitely good to know how to do but not the end all be all.

  • I have a Spyderco fixed blade that I use as a kitchen utility knife in 8cr that is an outstanding performer, and has great edge retention. Buuuuuuuuut, I paid $30 for it on sale. I agree that $75 for 8cr is a bit much.

  • I was a sushi chef, we needed insanely sharp blades for speed and precision. Even moderate sharpness won’t do. I sharpened for 20 minutes 3 days a week for 3 years and I still consider myself a complete amateur at sharpening. Many guided systems didn’t work for our variety. Actually most guided systems are trash compared to hand sharpening, or a mix of both

  • Stroup Knives makes very good tools imo, and there are some self-defense applications for that sticker, but price/value is for the end user to decide. VZ Grips and Cold Steel have similar non-metallic tools. Options are solid for sure as you cannot take a metallic tool everywhere.

  • The non metallic knife has one primary purpose ,to get passed metal detectors. For those who feel a need to carry a backup in a weapons restricted building can still have a lethal form of defence. The thing i pretty much a point shank made out of plastic but effective. The price is actually pretty solid, considering your getting a non metallic sheath with it. Most of them run 80-100 dollars for a decent one. Its actually a pretty cool knife to get its not a toy.

  • Hey complex! I have a question. When it comes to companies like Null knives and others that have their designs made by an OEM such at Reate, would they be classified as Mid-techs or just high-end production knives? Do owners of the companies have anything to do with the final product? How are they classified? Thanks man!

      @claytonthecountryboy3272@claytonthecountryboy327213 күн бұрын
    • Mid tech used to mean (in 2011-2012 when it was introduced, not sure what it means now) it's made by the maker (or a few people that he employs) with the use of smart technology, can be customized and are somewhat limited in availability (tens or a few hundreds at most, not thousands). But the guy (like say Medford, Todd Begg) still has to have had his hands on it at some point and did something on the knife and it's made in his shop (some labor like water jet or heat treatment can be outsourced). Null and other knives that are made by Reate or other OEM (in US, China, Italy or anywhere else) are just high end production, no matter how nice they are. It's still a great knife and some can be made as nice or better than midtech or customs, but it's still a serial production knife.

  • So MC (and anyone else really) I'd like your opinion on something. Do you think Spyderco should do what WE and Civivi have done by making budget versions some of their higher priced knives? Like maybe budget versions of the PM 2 and para 3? Idk I just think that would be a really great way to get more customers. Obviously steels like 9cr18mov, 14c27n, or even D2 would be preferable but hell I'd take a PM2 in 8cr13mov. At the very least just to try it out before I spend the money on one of the various versions. Also while the price of the non metal knife is total BS I don't hate it and would probably carry it.

  • Spyderco is one of the only company I don't mind 8cr from. I believe that was almost an English sentence. I don't know what it is, but they seem to outperform most other 8cr (on the Spyderco & Byrd knives I have tried). The Stok bowie is a really cool knife. Do I wish it was in Cruwear or k390? Absolutely. But for $60-80 I don't think it's a "bad deal". But I have not used the Stok that much, so take that for what it's worth.

    @Cid_1@Cid_113 күн бұрын
  • To post the hated comment of the day… Knife Steel Nerds finally got a hold of some 8cr bar stock and…it’s actually not that bad. Is this one overpriced? Sure it is. If it was $45-50 that would be doable mainly because Spyderco heat treats it properly and they tend to run it fairly hard. Which itself is valuable. It’s probably a decent buy when it goes on sale somewhere.

Screw you Spyderco! Stop using this steaming pile of hot garbage for blade steel. Just stop it! Maybe that's was acceptable 20 years ago? I don't know, I wasn't a knife guy then. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT ACCEPTABLE NOW!!! Do you hear me Spyderco?! Why, why in the name of all that's holy are you still making knives out of this known turd of a so called blade material? Stop it! I will never ever ever ever pay a single dollar for a knife with a blade made of 8cr13mov. I don't even want it for free. Give the knives you've already made from this excrement masquerading as steel to starving kids in Africa (if they will even take them), and don't ever try to push a knife made of this crap on us again.
