Large CHEMICAL SPILL In Manchester Triggers Major Incident Response

A leak of hazardous material at a chemical firm triggered a major incident and left one person needing hospital treatment
The incident at the Lanxess factory in Trafford Park, Greater Manchester, happened just before 09:00 GMT during the unloading of a tanker
The leaked substance - phosphorus oxychloride - was later contained.
"More than a dozen" people were assessed by paramedics but only one person needed further care.
Fire engines, police and ambulances were called to the incident on Tenax Road, while nearby residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
The ambulance service said the "large-scale" response, which saw Greater Manchester Police declared a major incident, was needed in-line with protocols for this kind of event.
Roads in the area were later reopened and the major incident was stood down.
What is phosphorus oxychloride?
Phosphorus oxychloride is used as a base material by the chemical manufacturing industry, and can be corrosive and highly toxic if it makes contact with the skin.
If inhaled, it can cause symptoms including coughing, burning, sore throat, dizziness, and nausea.
A Lanxess safety document said there can be a risk of exposure when the chemical is unloaded to be stored, with workers trained to handle the substance wearing protective clothing.

    • That could be a Doctor's Car. Sometimes Doctor's have their own cars which are rigged out with permission go have blues and a siren, so in emergency they can leave home or work and go to the emergency with their own vehicle. There is a guy on KZhead who films himself responding to emergencies showing to does and don'ts of being both someone responding to a blue light vehicle and being a blue light driver. His videos are rather slef reflective and helpful to others.

    • Does happen I have seen 3 Ambulances (one car two vans) for someone having a heart attack. It's more of a case who can get there sooner. If they get two at the same time till they think they are clear the other can't leave. It's likely the car was there first, but they called for the patient to be taken in and two showed up at the same time, because its a case of if two are at similar distances then one may get there sooner, but if both arrive then one crew needs to be cleared to leave.

    • @@REDARROW_A_Personalthey always send 2 ambulances to cardiac arrests. They recon after doing 2 minutes of chest compressions a person is less effective so they aim to have 2 crews of 2, one on the airway, one keeping record and two to swap out on chest compressions. I imagine the car is either just first on scene or a local manager.
