  • How do you make the decision whether or not to "Hot blue" or "cold blue" or "no blue" something and why? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? I'd never even heard of the concept before I somehow got addicted to restoration videos.

    • Cold blue is faster and only hardens/colors a superficial layer. Hot bluing hardens deep into the metal - you can't easily sand/scrape it away. The reason he used cold bluing for the blades was because they'll need to be sharpened occasionally - hot bluing would make that really difficult.
