  • The scene with Viola and Sandra is one of the best most intense emotional scenes I've seen.

  • It's a predictable story BUT it's the way that it's delivered is what makes it so good. We go around judging people, making assumptions with almost no facts and then contradicting and turning hypocritical when it does suit our needs and views.Every character and scene had a purpose and shows exactly how sad humans have become in treating other humans, all based on this narcissistic idea that you're better then someone else. It has very emotional scenes. One of the best of Netflix so far, considering there's been some cringe ones lately. A must watch.

  • If this movie has taught me anything it will be - kindness - second chance We can not call ourselves human beings if we don’t hold this two high esteemed. I love how Sandra has grown into a remarkable actress of our time . I truly cried though out this movie , how a woman just wants a second chance to fit into the society . Doing time for her little sister so that she can have a better future. As human beings we must try to forgive, vengeance sounds sweet but it just makes us bitter and no different from the culprits There are a lot people behind bars that their story fits perfectly into this movie . The system takes away your freedom without giving you rehabilitation and you find yourself wandering around the society finding hard to be accepted because you have been classified as a “convict “ We can do better

  • This movie is incredible it's wonderful to see an actress like Sandra bullock do yet another fantastic movie playing character which is so different from all of the others I have personally seen. Not only does it tell the story of a woman from prison and her life ahead of her as well as behind but also the term of love and family and what it all truly means to unconditional love. Like many others who have said do not listen to the critics reviews of this movie they are out of touch out of date. This is a glorious film from the year that has been so hard to film anything, hats off to all the cast directors camera people extras costume design.

  • MUST-SEE movie! Do NOT let the bad reviews of snobby and out-of-touch film critics (like those of Rotten Tomatoes) influence your decision to watch this film or not: please watch it. The bottom line is, neither Sandra Bullock (who is magnificent in this film) nor Viola Davis would ever play in something that is below average. And you know it. So trust them and trust us, we the little people, who gave this film a whopping 91% thumbs up on Google and a 7/10 on IMDb. It's a captivating film that will have you completely riveted after the first few minutes so resist the urge to fast-forward some moments just to see what's next! Take the time to follow Ruth on her gritty and hazardous redemption walk after being out of prison, see life through her downcast eyes just for a bit, wait patiently for the plot to unfold, for the clouds to dissipate from the blurry memories, for all the characters to emerge one by one and don't give up on her until you see the end. Then you'll get why it is such a poignant, heartbreaking and beautiful film all at once and why it deserves a 5 stars rating (and why Sandra Bullock deserves another Oscar!).

  • I just watched this movie, and it’s a wonderful show. Very well done, doesn’t extract everything from you emotionally until the end… (and even then it was well placed and not over the top), which I appreciate, as some movies really slathered on a musical score that is off putting to those who would otherwise enjoy an “emotional “ movie. I agree with the others who say don’t listen to rotten tomatoes 🍅, sometimes they get it wrong, and I think 40% ( what ever their number was) is way too low, these numbers reflect people who can’t look you in the eye long enough to be present in the moment. Anyway that’s my free advice!

  • This is not a movie that I need the ending of explained to me, or a breakdown of anything. Ruth and Blake have lives to rebuild. It's not our business how they do it. As for the very end, it is like real life, not Hollywood. I'm also astute enough to know that Katie's mom told her who Ruth was. She had been battling strong regrets about not having done so much sooner.

  • OMG, what the fakk is wrong with Sandra Bullock? Why does she keep making such good Movies these Days? "Gravity", "Bird Box" were fantastic, even "The Heat" had its charms. And now this, "The Unforgiveable". They say it's just an "Oscar-bait" Movie, and it is, but it is very deserving if it ever does wins some Oscar Awards. The Movie is a very good Thriller, it mainly revolves on the mystery of what really happened on why Bullock's Character got to go to Prison. We get glimpses of it all throughout the Movie, and of course the truth isn't really revealed until near the end of the Film. In the meantime, we get to see Bullock's struggles as she adjusts to life outside the Prison, and as with any good Movie, it has many Layers around it. You have the "Revenge" aspect from the Family of the Person that Bullock's Character killed, then you also have her struggle to get in contact with her little Sister who was taken away by Social Welfare during her imprisonment. An absolutely great performance by everyone, especially by Bullock, just superb interpretation of the main Role. You can actually see in her Face all the hardships she has had to go thru during her 2 Decades in Prison. A Must-See for me, one of the Best Films on Netflix this Year (2021).

  • Should have just let the sister take the charge, she was like 5 would have been ruled an accident or she would have spent like a few years in juvenile detention and the released. Dumb premise. The better twist would be that Sandra Bullock’s character did kill the sheriff and the younger sister took the blame.

  • I agree the meeting and hugscene of Sandra and Viola who played her sister is one of the highlights and very powerful scene for on she remember her older sister. And I feel sad to Steve he live blindsided on the betrayals happening in his life and home by the people he deeply loved.Steves wife and brother deserve one another. If these movie will have part 2?. I like to see how's Steve life changes after prison and what happen to his cheating and traitor brother?.

  • Depressing, forced subplots that mean nothing. All this should teach us that no matter what, people should be kind to others. The story could have been better developed, and I am sick of movies that end without following through. I have watched movies where Sandra Bullock was great, but this was not one. As soon as the film reveals that the little 5-year-old used the shotgun, I said gunpowder residue. Like we all haven't watched a million shows like CSI, or Law and Order. All capital crimes would have forensic investigations to build a case. No one wants to put a child through the trauma of an investigation, but she is already traumatized. The truth will out... It would have if this were a true story. This movie isn't even an original concept, just a dramatic way to elevate an actress for more award considerations. We, the general audience, are hoping to be entertained, not subjected to what the worst people will do with the smallest amount of information. The scene in the law office was terrible. No one in their right mind would do 20 years in prison and then speak like that in the one place something realistic could be arranged. It was forced verbal abuse against two parents trying to do the best for the child. Why does selfish behavior enter the story over and over? She knows she is innocent, yet does everything to put up more barriers between herself and her goals. Ugly behavior by almost everyone in this film, aside from the lawyer. All around, a mediocre film among so many poor offerings from the entertainment industry. Just my opinion, I am no critic. However, I know this will be hailed as a triumphant performance because of her popularity. Thankfully, I stopped watching award shows a few years ago. I would not recommend this film, but there are so few new shows or movies offered on streaming platforms, that we just mindlessly watch whatever is promoted. Do better, filmmakers, your potential audience is capable of understanding the complexities of life without being depressed for two hours.

  • Sandra Bullock's shameless bid for an Academy Award is lost in this bad mashup of character study and thriller that is so preposterous, it often becomes laughable. Bullock plays the glum Ruth Slater, a cop killer, who tries to get her life in order and reconnect with her little sister after doing 20 years time. Instead of focusing on the life of an ex-con and what it's like to carry that identity while trying to figure out a life beyond Ruth's past, the film turns into a hokey thriller with multiple subplots and wasted characters (the great Olivia Davis gets ten minutes of screen time as a barely written wife of a lawyer who takes on Ruth's case to reconnect with her sister). They also now live in Ruth's old house--Ruth worms her way into their lives. The sons of the cop who was killed--both looking like sociopaths from the get-go--want revenge on Ruth but the dimwits don't know quite how. The film sidesteps all the relevant philosophical questions--can a convict get redemption and should Ruth contact her sister? Who gains to benefit other than her by getting closure? Does Ruth realize the collateral damage of her choice both past and present? Nope, it wants to get on with that revenge subplot that has so many holes in it, you'd think a moth wrote it. Of course, there is a major plot twist and reveal because how many cop killers are sympathetic characters? If you don't know this from the beginning, you are probably thinking you are watching a Netflix true-crime documentary. The film ends with pure bathos--a kitschy, sentimental plea to get viewers to cry if they aren't rolling their eyes at the clumsy writing and directing. Pretty unforgivable.
