Hunting bears with a traditional bow, off the ground, on public land in Arkansas is the pinnacle of Clay Newcomb's hunting charts. On his first hunt in 2019, he had a unforgettable hunt that ended with the hide and meat of a majestic beast being hauled out on the back of his trusty mule, Izzie. We've been calling bear hunting without the use of bait or hounds on public land in the Eastern Deciduous Forest the Sheep Hunt of the South! Check out www.bear-hunting.com and the Bear Hunting Magazine Podcast.
I like how you use a mule rather than an ATV or just a drag. Makes it all just that much more traditional and natural Clay. Well done!
I always enjoy your vids. We cant bait here in Cali so it's nice to see some footage that isn't over bait, it reminds me it can be done. Izzy is turning into a great packer!
EmpireFoodie thanks man!
Love it! Your story telling is captivating Clay, keep up amazing work!
ngrogan thanks for watching! Appreciate it. Got a new video coming out today.
Great hunt Clay, thanks for taking us along! God is good!
Another great video Clay. I'm always glad when I get a notification that you've dropped another video! Keep'em coming!
Coach O thank you! Appreciate it.
Another awesome hunt! I'm amazed to see you pursue bears and take them with a bow. You're a true hunter... and not seeing bears is hunting at it's finest. You're learning as you go towards future hunts. Congratulations Clay!
Mark Blackie thank you, Mark! Appreciate it.
Awesome job yet again!!! Congrats you’re the man!!
Thanks Jake!
Awesome video Clay. Love the content you put out. Went on my first bear hunt last spring with no luck but many things learned. Can’t wait to hit it again next year. Thanks for all the great information. Keep it coming 👍👊
Thanks Chad! Good luck on the next next hunt, it's all a matter of time!
Great hunt Clay! And a pass through with a Trad bow! That’s awesome. Must be shooting a heavy arrow. Thanks for the video and congrats!

ethan ransom glad you got to listen to it. Awesome.
Absolutely the best podcast and KZhead channel on the internet. I'm not a bear Hunter due to my state not allowing it yet ...but this channel and podcast are the most influential outdoorsman's media out there for those of us in the southeast
Thank you for the kind words! Right on!
Clay, you have some of the best videos on youtube. Love it man!
Awesome video Clay love your passion for bear hunting and traditional archery i carry the same beliefs and interests very near and dear to my heart...always inspirational to watch.. 👍💪
Right on! Thanks!
I really liked how you showed the pass through buried in that sapling tree .... I hunt traditionally too and most bow hunters here in CT do not understand how efficient trad bows can be.... Nice shot ! I look forward to more of your videos !
How much fun is that!!! Awesome work.
Just listened to the podcast and had to come over and see the hunt. Makes me itch for spring bear season here in idaho. Nicely done.
Ben Sand right on...thanks Ben, and good luck this spring.

We need more of this content, Clay! The Meateater stuff is nowhere near as good. I've watched this old content so many times and still can't get enough. Come back!
That's the most southern accent ever. Great video.

atta boy Clay! River obviously has taught you everything you know! Love your content.
Haha... she led the way this year!
Awesome men! A complete hunt video.
Great video, I really enjoy your insightfulness! I have taken three bears here in Colorado, I'm thoroughly addicted to it!
Right on! Colorado can be a challenging hunt.
Love your content! Thank you for sharing! Hoping to come over to AR this winter to spot & stalk some hogs!
Well done Clay! Very cool hunt and well made film. Your narration ability is a gift, could to it listen all day.
Thanks! You would love our podcast! lol
@@bearhuntingmagazine listened to it on my commute to work ✔
Excellent vid!
Amazing hunt abd video! Loved it!
Thanks!
I can't express how much this video inspires me. It was this video that motivated me to try to replicate this hunt in PA. I hiked a total 35 miles in 3 days, and came back without see a bear, but had a lot of promise. Hard hunting. Truly inspired. Will definetly get back at it next season.
Love it clay! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Sure thing!
Excellent hunt . WELL DONE!
Well spoken and great footage
Thank you!
I really like your vids, Thanks for sharing, I had my first spot and stalk black bear hunt and almost got the job done, but the wind switched and he was away, I will be back over to try again, it was your vids that inspired me to try on my own DIY with a longbow I made, from the Uk. Thanks again.
TheMereside that is awesome to hear! Glad we could help you in your new pursuit.... that wind is either your best friend or your worse enemy lol
@@bearhuntingmagazine Thanks for the fast response, I was so thrilled to even find a black bear on my first attempt, that's hunting and the wind on the mountain can be hard, I can't wait to get back so keep the vids coming
TheMereside that’s a huge win in itself 👍🏻
@@bearhuntingmagazine , Absolutely i traveled over 3000 miles to hunt public land found the beech in the mountains and to stalk into 30 yards before the wind switched. I was too far and had to let him go, it has only made me more determined to find another and he will be worth it, this is why I chose the bow. It's mentally, physically challenging and then add on stalking on foot to bow range is a real thrill. Thanks for all you do,regards Wayne
I had never heard of you until a friend of ours mentioned you. Congrats from North Georgia
Great video Clay. Congrats on a fine bear .
Thank you!
Nice job Clay! Congratulations!

Pieter Holtzhausen thank you
I don't know what's more incredible getting the bear on public land or getting the bear on public land with camera that's even more insane congratulations on both wild feats
Christopher Ch thanks chris!!!
Another great video! I never considered bear hunting until I ran across your channel. This stuff make me want to give it a try.
Thanks! There is nothing quite like bear hunting, good luck in your pursuits!
ALwoodsman good luck, man!
Great hunt and great diy public land bear!!!
Thanks! We love our public land diy hunts!
Your hunts are phenomenal
Thank you!
l1ttleguy1 thank you
Love your content. Thank you for being honest about your success rates. So tired of the I get one every time guys.
Chad Cobb thanks Chad. Appreciate it.
Clay, you are a GREAT Hunter! I've been at it since '83, I was 6 years old, and have only not bear hunted a couple of seasons since and have only seen one in July on private. Maybe one of these days. Anyways, great job self filming an extremelyhard hunt.
Robby Rivett thank you, Robby. Good hunting too you.
Great hunt Clay! I would love to be able to walk my hounds up that ridge, that is the kind of sign that gets you pumped up for sure. Maybe one day Arkansas will allow hound hunting. For now I will stick with Va, Wv and Nc
Beardoggin89 Right on! We wish we could run hounds for bears in Arkansas!
Nice one, great shot!
Fred Bear thank you!
Dude! Love your videos. They're just too damn short! Nice shot brother!
Thanks! We suggest watching the videos multiple times lol
Public land. Trad bow. No bait. Any of those 3 elements would cut the odds of success significantly but all together........wow. People need to appreciate just how difficult of a hunt that was. Good job.
The History Underground thanks a ton, man.
I’ve grown up hunting on Magazine Mountain here in Arkansas and never seen a bear. My family has and I see sign regularly. Watching your videos makes me want to give bear hunting a shot though. Keep up the great work!
Charles Roberts you can do it!
Brilliant hunt amazing video
matthew pickford thank you

Bears, recurve bows, mules,... You are a badass!
SnotRocketsTV 👊

Great video Clay. Now you need a West Virginia public Black Bear 🏹
Awesome hunt!
Awesome job!!!
Thanks James!
Cool video. Curious why you have 2 different silencers on the Black Widow recurve?
Amazing shot!
Sam Lorenz thanks!
Hugh respect for you and amazing video. Please upload more
I live in bear country and don't hunt bear, don't know that I will ever hunt bear, don't even know what I'd do with a bear if I killed one, but man oh man are these fun to watch. I spent a year hunting deer in the mountains of SE Oklahoma and couldn't even get that done. Congrats on another black ghost!
mkvnwk excellent and thanks for watching.
Your editing is superior!!!! 🍻🍁🌰🍂👍
Aaron Nelson thank you!
Great Video!!
Rodney Smith thanks Rodney!
Once again, you nailed it! Great footage! Thanks for your motivation and determination to keep bringing these hunts to us!
Boondock Patrol thanks!

Thanks!
First great videos, really enjoy watching them. But do you have a bow build/set up that you us?
xLando225 thank you and check out the Bear Hunting Magazine podcast #54 to hear about the setup.
Incredible
Thanks!
Hell yeah, keep bear hunting alive! Checking in from AK. It’s great to see it still happening in the lower 48. When are you going to come hunt AK Clay?
Brett Linden thanks! I’ve been up there bear hunting a few times! Awesome county up there!
Good stuff 👍
Thanks!
Great job
Thanks!
Great hunt clay that has got to feel like an amazing accomplishment doing it the way you did congrats on a great hunt
The Deercreek Cartel thank you!
That’s the way my daddy hunted and he would not hunt any other way. If everyone hunted that way and I mean with a traditional bow and off the ground no feed to draw them in we would have a thriving bear population and good hunting way to go my man!
KOTN HEWHOHIM thanks and good hunting man!
I am late to the party as far as finding this video. I am going on my first bear hunt ever in Arkansas on public in a few weeks. I am going to do a backpack hunt. I have no idea what I am doing but I can’t wait.
Spot and stalk is my favorite way to hunt! Not much on blind or stand hunting. Get to explore and see new country!! Love it!!
We do enjoy Spot & Stalk!
Great job..
Matt Musselman thanks Matt!
Great mules .
Great video man! What bow/setup is that?
It's a Timberghost. We go into it on our podcast that got released today!
My hats off to you sir! That ain’t easy
Thanks Steve! It is a labor of love, if it were easy it wouldn't be as worth it!
Fantastic clay , wish I still lived in arkansas. Now live in florida lots of bears , lots of karens .
great hunt, but what kind of bow is this? i love the design
It's a Timberghost G3SS made by a bowyer in Arkansas named Kent Roberts.
Your hunts are realistic and entertaining. No high fences, or exclusive celebrity high dollar hunting clubs with giant hunting fees. Fred Bear once admitted in an interview that he did not kill something every time he went. ha.
Really enjoy your videos, make them a little bit longer if possible though!
Thanks Ryan.... we'll take it under advisement!
Excuse me, what brand of bow piece do you use, how many pounds, and what kind of bow handle is it
Sir good job nice mountain bear hunting video ♥♥♥♥♥♥
Thanks! We are addicted to the mountains around here!
I just found your channel. Lots of bear in North Georgia but I am still trying to tag my first.
