Stock Subaru shames everyone at test hill

All stock early nineties Subaru shames off-roaders as it tools over Test hill at Silver Lake. He did this more than once without getting stuck. A lot of jaws dropped when he went over the top in the same ruts left by a dually diesel that failed in it's attempt just minutes before.
Guy wondering why everyone is crowded around his route to work.

This is still hilarious to watch. Especially with the context of a truck failing to make it. Can you imagine someone spending all their time and money on their truck to try and make it the ultimate off road vehicle, only to get flexed on by an old stock subaru.
I mean Subarus are much better designed for this. Trucks aren't actually designed to offroad they're designed to haul and tow.
@@Captain_PlanetsI guess you wouldn't take it where it wouldn't go then
@@Captain_Planetsthen a customized crawler Subaru will still put your bitch-bus to shame
Trucks have a higher center of gravity than cars, as well as many trucks being rear-wheel-drive or having 4wd capabilities, but since the bed makes up a good length of the truck and is lighter than even the cab, the center of gravity is at the front on many truck models.
why would a truck be able to do this
This is the stuff I love. "Do more with less!" So many people running around in these huge trucks and SUV 's that just haven't worked through the first trip through the sand or over a simple rock. The guys who get out there with skill are who I like to see. Kudos!
Top advice , don’t wait around and save up tens of thousands for a new 4wd just to get out and see your country Grab five grand , get something reliable around 20 years old put some 33” on it and see how far it takes you Learn to drive and fix something that’s already had a few missions in the scrub before wasting money on something you can’t drive worth a piss anyway And never be scared to dent and scratch it to the shit , adds character Save money on the rig so you can buy more beer and tucker 👍
@@Cobber.Here in Missouri everyone drives a top-of-the-line ultra-heavy-duty 4WD dually pickup truck thing, but not a single person has ever actually used it for anything truck-related (off-roading, towing, etc.). It happened to every hobby I found. The problem is that you’re just falling into the trap of these companies that sell these products. They make you believe what you have is inferior and must be upgraded.
There are times where you do need to spend money on parts, but for the vast majority of off-roading a stock Jeep Wrangler will absolutely do at least most of what you want to do with it. I highly doubt you're going to be making it through sandhollow's triple sevens trail on a stock Jeep Wrangler, but I also highly doubt anyone without a lot of off-roading skill regardless of vehicle (maybe a Ukrainian atlas as an exception) is getting through there without scratching their vehicle
Plenty of those weekend warriors here in SF. Some are annoying af. One dude in a rubicon, decked out used to double park all the time in a reserved parking lot - just no care in the world for residents. Then one day, I came out walked by, to see all 4 windows smashed, dash ripped out, his stupid flood lights smashed, and the snorkel torn out. I had an original Subaru wagon (before the Outback and the other models - when it was just the "Subaru Wagon"). It had a manual transmission and a two-speed rear differential. That thing could just about climb trees. I could see it being able to get up that hill. The boxer engines in those old Subarus burned oil like crazy, and I had to replace the seals twice. I drove it over 200K miles, then sold it, still going strong. Other than going through so much oil, it was an awesome car.
Love my Outback
They still do burn oil like crazy in fact they're the still the same engines being used today lol

My first car was an '83 Subaru wagon. Even though it was 2WD it couldnt be stopped anything. Well almost anything. My younger brother's friend drove it into a bridge or something like that. That killed it but I had already moved onto an '88 Subaru GL 2 door hatchback.

When i started working as a craftsman apprentice in the 80s in Japan, there was a scroll over the door of the atelier we all bowed to when we arrived in the morning and left in the evening. The message which was written in the hand of the master craftsman's great grandfather said "kanpeki ha atarimae, kanpeki ijou who nerau ha mokuteki" (Meaning : "Perfecting is the minimum requirement, you must aim for more than perfection"). This reflect how things are done in Japan.
I love this. This is why I love Japanese-made and designed stuff. The utmost work ethic. ..though I have found that when it comes to cars, the only ones that seem to embody it now are Honda and Toyota. (Even the ones made in the US!) The others have a few reliability bugaboos. Not like US brands though but still. My 2020 Subie is the first car I've had that can refuse to unlock if it's below about -5°F (guess I'm not going to work that day?), and whose infotainment occasionally doesn't start with the car (requiring a restart), and whose fuel door often freezes shut. Ergh. Still love my STI which was of course made in Japan.

As a pickup driver, I can *feel* when I'm about to slide, the tires have this sickening mini-lurch before traction is lost. I am not a good driver, but I know this, so I pay extra attention, and I feel like if I was driving it on a mountain, I would be very uncomfortable going downhill at 5500 pounds/2500 kilos when it's slippy on flat gravel at 35 mph/~55 kpm My brain hurts. Subaru's in Colorado were abundant and a plethora like you'd see Prius's and hybrid cars in California. They're reliable and the go to for that awd actions.
