  • great video, until about 5 mins in, the background music totally drowns out the voice 🤦🏻

  • 2:22 why is a brushed motor here?

  • at 3:27 it sure looks like a 3 phase motor (only 3 power terminals) I suspect that it is a 6 pole or more, and you would still drive it with 3 phases, cause that is all you ever need (except for marketing).

    • Exactly. 6 pole motors are generally accepted to give optimum balance between smooth running and torque, but that could easily be increased to 8, 10, or 12 if needed. The results would be exactly the same and a radial motor makes it simpler. A six phase inverter would be far more complex and enormous fun if a wire got crossed, leading to extensive damage. Reversing the motor would be even greater fun. I am sure that you are correct and the 6 phase is simply a 12 pole motor with a fancy new name. 3:14 shows a motor with 9 pairs in the rotor. 2:28 shows a normal 6 pole field.

  • A shorter wire means less resistance. so if you were to say have 12 pole pairs, a 3 phase motor would have 4 coils per phase. By increasing the number of phases ( wiring the poles in parallel ) a 6 phase motor would have 2 coils per phase. Meaning shorter wire, less resistance, more power. The best solution would be to wire each pole separately.
