Last lady did the best thing. I seen it before and unfortunately it's very difficult to tell if someone genuinely needs it and will also use it for the right thing as in food and because of this a lot of us are reluctant to give money. There use to be a regular guy who comes to this fast food place asking people for money (staff didn't seem to care enough to stop the guy at least the few times I was there) and you see that guy going into the bookies nearby with whatever money people give him. I had a guy asking me for £2 and did the same thing as the lady on the last part of the video. The guy said he needed the £2 because he was hungry. I just bought a meal deal from a supermarket and offered to give him the pack of walkers crisp I had but he didn't want it and kept saying he needed the money instead. Needless to say I ignored him because needless to say I was giving him a pack of crisp and he didn't want it even though he said he was hungry. I do feel bad for those who really need help though but because of so many who aren't genuine or are using it for other reasons it makes many of us not willing to give them money. On the other hand I have seen some genuine people before. I was at Waitrose and there was a guy in a suit asking this homeless guy what he wants. The homeless guy only said just said anything. Basically the guy in the suit was being nice to buy him something to eat and drink but I think the homeless guy who was genuine just appreciated it all and probably felt he didn't have the right to choose. I remember the guy in the suit asking if he wanted tuna sandwich or chicken sandwich etc and the homeless guy just said anything will do. In the end the guy in the suit just picked a sandwich, a drink and I think a pack of crisp or something. Bought it and have it to the guy. You can see how much the homeless man appreciated the kindness and how grateful he was. I only wish there was a way that we could tell those who genuinely need help like this over others who have other intentions.

In 2021 I was in NYC, around 10:30pm, I was in a Five Guys restaurant. A young teen wearing a “mask” came in and asking customers for money for food. I almost made the mistake of pulling out my money but rather offered to buy him a meal. He fairly rudely said no and left leaving me to watch my walk back to my shit hotel 2 blocks down a dark street. You can always help anyone however unfortunately those people asking may be asking for the wrong reason. Majority of people who could use help, don’t ask. I’d they do, it’s usually non verbal. I’ve helped MANY people and of those who’ve asked, very few have accepted. It want help they wanted for the reasons they presented. Can’t judge people for not appearing to help others when approached on the street. Way too many negative results for the helper. Sad but true. For all those commenting saying “how sad the world is”…how many times have you helped a stranger on the street?

A few of these people were mouthing "I don't have money" or "I only have card" When I was in that situation, I got a tenner out of the nearest cashpoint. If you can't justify giving away a whole tenner, go into a shop and buy yourself a chocolate bar or something. Then you can get the amount of change that you're happy to give away. A little kindess in the world goes a long way.

There's no way I'm giving money to someone who tells me "give me X amount". In fact, I always ask people who approach me if $5 is gonna be enough just to test their character. If they give me any other answer than "yes", I tell them "wrong answer" and give $10 to the next person that looks homeless (even if didn't ask).
