  • Mitch is selling worlds better than world's is 😂

    @kenlay9366@kenlay936615 күн бұрын
    • 💯 😂 Edit: I honestly see The Shaw Classic / Strongest Man on Earth show overtaking WSM in popularity in the next few years unless WSM organizers get better.

      15 күн бұрын
    • With an almost 50 year run of being the premier show with a pedigree of former winners such as Kazmaier, Sigmarsson, Magnusson, Ahola, Pudzianowski, Novikov, Licis, Stoltman, Shaw, Eddie Hall and Thor Bjornsson and now Mitch Hooper....World's doesnt have to sell anything...it is the leader by default. Mitch has won all the other contests, so there is no doubt who is the best overall. WSM already has the largest following and is best known around the world as the Premier Strongman event. The other shows are newer, therefore have to stream them for free, as they wouldnt get the pay per views to make any money and ticket sales wouldnt be that large for them. Live streaming will increase their number of watchers, but I doubt they will ever get more paying fans down the road. Holding the event outside is smart as they can allow moire people to attend, it costs less and they dont have to worry about damage to stages from the equipment or pay the huge rental fees. People know its outside so bring umbrellas for rain or shine. April/May in the carolinas isnt too unbearable either. Good time of year to hold events there.

    • World's sucks, because it will be televised months later in the US and the rest of the world is even worse. That is so stupid. Ppv online live stream is the way to go.

      @alleks5253@alleks525315 күн бұрын
    • @jtf2dan That's like saying I had a terrible childhood and it was hard for me, so everyone else should have the same experience. Let me explain; strongman doesn't have to be a shitty experience, for fans and athletes. People at wsm were baking in the sun for hours last year. Many people needed ladders to see anything. No live stream for people who couldn't be there. Reading off of bullshit spreadsheets to figure out what the placings are. This isn't a DnD campaign, I want to see the events with my eyes; not imagine what's happening. I don't want to wait 8 months to see half of one event. Compare this to Brian's event. It has gotten bigger and better literally every year. With new and interesting events. He lets the athletes know what they're doing, months in advance, and he doesn't fuck with them by changing it on the fly; because he is an athlete and he knows that sucks. There is a large prize pool, because winning trophies is nice, but it doesn't pay the bills. Rogue and Brian's strongman events are very quickly overshadowing wsm. TL:DR- it's 2024, strongman events don't have to be a shitty experience anymore. The barriers to becoming a fan don't have to be so high anymore

  • Can't wait for the day shaw classic replaces WSM as the top strong man event in the world. Worlds doesn't promote, doesn't stream, and we constantly hear former athletes saying its run like crap. Pulling for mitch and glad its helping your family,but as someone else mentioned you're promoting worlds better than worlds is

    @hardchooligan@hardchooligan15 күн бұрын
    • Yeah, and so far it seems like Shaw's gonna have a better lineup too :D I like having multiple shows run by different people. I just hope WSM starts live streaming events cause right now it seems like they don't want money.

      @OISEAUQUE@OISEAUQUE15 күн бұрын
    • It’s been run like crap forever. It’s embarrassing. 😊

      @914Rocky@914Rocky14 күн бұрын
    • World's is the biggest by far because it's on TV and the title is a good draw for viewers. That's also why they don't hype it at the time of the competition, because what's the point when you can't watch it for months? They may even be required not to by agreements with the TV companies, because of their delays in broadcasting. TV is the reason it's the biggest but it's also the source of most of its problems.

      @timbeech2056@timbeech205614 күн бұрын
    • No reason for them to promote an event you can’t see until it gets close to the time of its broadcast. Until they steam it live they won’t promote the live event much at all. They sold out tickets for the event without much promotion at all.

    • Same. I think Mitchell Hooper is the new Brian Shaw in terms of how nice he is as well as his talent and what he is doing for strength athletics all up. Shaw elevated strongman big time and I see Hooper doing the same thing. That said, anything can happen and The Moose 🫎 has some stiff competition to beat at WSM this year, it'll be fun to watch!

      15 күн бұрын
    • If I had to guess podium just knowing what I know, I'd have 1. Hooper 2. T. Stoltman 3. Singleton

      @beepyou34@beepyou3415 күн бұрын
    • I think Brian and Hooper have extremely different vibes. Brian is clearly quite clever when it comes to strongman and business, but he seems a lot more... spiritual when it comes to his approach to the sport ("be great") whereas Hooper constantly stresses the importance of what he is doing beyond Strongman.

  • To all those who keep calling strongman fans consodering the Rogue Invitational, Arnold's, or the Shaw Classic as better shows 'childish' - maybe you can consider more facts than simply state that WSM is the oldest comp. WSM may not have to sell anything now - but if they keep going as is - they will fall behind other shows Why - here are some big reasons: The other shows (Rouge, Arnold, Shaw Classic) will attract the top athletes more - because these shows are fair to the athletes, they'll get more money, more sponsorships etc. The growing core strongman fan base wants these top athleetes to be treated well and will pay in tickets and other ways for this reason as well as for the bigger entertainment value (like any other sport). If you think this is childish thinking - you are not accounting for many variables like (1) the amount of money and effort that's going into strongman now that wasn't the case when WSM was the only 'big' show. (2) There's more interest in strongman now than ever before and most of that is being created by institutions like Rogue or athlete-influencers like Shaw, Hooper, and definitely Big Loz. (3) Many core strongman fans have for a long time thought of ASC as a better strongman comp than WSM, it's just that WSM had more viewership. While it is true that WSM has the biggest reach in general population - the strongman fan base is rapidly growing and comps like Rogue, ASC, and the Shaw Classic are catering to these actual strongman fans who are willing to pay for live stream and top fan experience - this is a big factor driving the change because at the end of the day financial objectives tops other considerations.

  • Hey Mitch, or anyone reading this with some expertise in strength training. I noticed I can do 3 times more reps on a bar than a sandbag. If I use a sandbag to press for 5 reps instead of an equivalent weight bar for 15, what would be the benefits? Is it better for increasing strength?

    • It’s always going to be harder pressing a sandbag than a bar, it depends what you’re training for, if you’re training stone pressing then sandbag but pressing a bar will be more applicable for most things

    • @@rhyslong2030 diolch Rhys. if I want to increase strength and I am using my own equipment so can't get the bar any heavier, am I better off doing the bag?

  • Theres going to be fewer points between the top competitors on their mediocre lifts, so one bad event is going to be really hard to come back from

  • The top 4 guys are going to be really tight on points, I think when it comes to the Axle Press, Keg Toss, and Stones there's probably know one who's going to get inbetween Tom and Mitch. Knaack Medley however I could see Evan sneaking in there for 2nd just behind Mitch, and Conans Wheel I could see Matt Ragg winning if he's really willing to push himself but Mitch and Tom will be right behind him. Deadloft for Reps could be very interesting, after the Arnolds Im now looking at Evan Singleton to do some serious damage here, he could actually sneak ahead of Tom here, Mitch is probably the man to beat on this event and Matt Ragg could be right up there aswell. Could be a lot of tied points on this event. I think if Tom wins the Axle, the Keg Toss and Stones and keeps in 2nd for atleast 2 of the other events I think he can win overall. If he ties on points he can win based on his time on the stones. If Tom doesnt win the Axle he could be in trouble

  • We're guaranteed to have a new athlete on the podium this year, no matter what. I have a feeling it's Singleton's turn. Top 2 is obvious. 😁

    • I agree. And I think Singleton has (for possibly the first time in his pro career?) not fried his CNS weeks before competition. My prediction is Mitch 1st, Tom 2nd, Evan 3rd.

    • Most likely, especially considering all the athletes that got injuries and withdrew from the competition. That's always sad to see because you want the champ to beat all contenders at their best (and it's just fun to watch the world's strongest men perform incredible feats of strength). But injury prevention is part of being an athlete as well so remaining injury free while contenders drop like flies due to injuries is another way to achieve back-to-back championships 🏆 And at least Tom and Jaco haven't dropped out.
