  • I bet that turbulence at around the 9 minute mark made the pilot's sphincter tighten a bit.

  • remember not to descend vertically as they don't like flying through their own propwash, its safer to descend diagonally or in circles to avoid the near loss of control you see around 8mins.

  • My favorite video on UAV period! I don't need to fly that high now that I see what it looks like and no wonder Phantoms is the benchmark for quadcopters. If you flew that high here in Luxembourg you would have been able to panned 4 countries at once. Cheers to a successful flight.

      @Thewiruz1@Thewiruz15 жыл бұрын
    • @@Thewiruz1 ...so we should poison all birds of earth too since the Airbus is more important? Objects in the sky have never stopped man from flying. You sound like a virtue signaling little biaatch to me. Do you drive a car? Because you're orders of magnitude more likely to harm people doing that than flying this drone above Turkey.

  • Nice flight video, I was wanting you to fly into that cloud. Although clouds are pure moisture I think that might have ended badly.

    @824rmrock@824rmrock8 жыл бұрын
  • As a pilot, I assure you this can do significant damage or bring down an airplane. For those comparing to birds, most don't fly at these altitudes. Passenger jets typically fly at 180 to 250 knots below 5000 feet, at those speeds, this will rip a hole in a wing or destroy an engine.

    @richardbradbury2851@richardbradbury28518 жыл бұрын
    • Richard Bradbury Governments should set up locations that are designated for UAV operators to go as high as they want, like a random bit of land no aircraft would ever need to fly in. Then if people wanna get some nice pictures of clouds they won't be tempted to do it with risk...

      @bmet001@bmet0018 жыл бұрын
    • Ben Pickering They do it's called a COA. The UAV pilot just needs to fill out simple paper work (Online) which notifies Real Pilots that there will be activity in an area. Anytime I fly near an airport I contact the Tower and give location, Altitude, time of operation, phone contact info. Do this giving them 72 hours notice and there are no issues. An advisory is published and radio broadcast of the activity is reported. Not a big deal to do...

      @douggoodwin2576@douggoodwin25768 жыл бұрын
    • +Doug Goodwin Why dont you just go fly somewhere else instead of by an airport? Air traffic controllers are deadly enough without you adding things for them to do.

      @willrobinson9575@willrobinson95758 жыл бұрын
    • +Will Robinson will 99% of the time I do not fly within the safety zone of an airport, but when I do I follow the established rules of the FAA. These are nothing new...been in place for over 40 years. the last assignment was for the police department covering a training / competition. there are over 5000 active airports in the US. more than in any other country. The FAA has the current buzz phase "Know before you fly". As a commercial pilot and a drone operator risk management is king. what this guy did is just dumb. and encourages people to try the same. I just had a pilot tell me last week that he bought a drone and the first thing he did was see how high and far he could fly it...can't fix stupid.

  • There's a couple of really good lessons in this video. Number one when doing something like this as a responsable pilot I should know it's going to take longer to descend from altitude than it did to get to altitude. If you descend straight down it can get very rough because of turbulence under the quad. 2nd this particular pilot did not panic he continued piloting and remained calm and controlled. If we panic we will crash.

    @SilverTopFlyer@SilverTopFlyer4 жыл бұрын
    • It's easy to stay calm when your flying a drone at over 4000 ft. from ground, you have time and control. It's a little tougher when your over a river at 120" agl and you get a message "landing now" and the quad starts head directly down into the river without inputs and very little time.

    • After 60 feet or so, the drone would hit terminal velocity. It doesn't fall faster if it's 100 feet than it would if it was at 5000 feet so it's no more dangerous at this height than it is at 100 feet...except you have less of an idea of where it will fall when it's up higher.

    @Michael_00001@Michael_000018 жыл бұрын
  • When bringing it back down you should have had it spiral down to the ground. You will actually get a faster descent a it would not put as much strain on the quad. At different altitudes there are different pockets of wind moving in various directions and speeds. Going into them head-on by spiraling is much smoother than just air braking the whole way straight down. Your drone looks like it's fighting for it's life at a few parts of the video. Beautiful footage though. The cloud shot was amazing.

I'll try to find that footage or just make anothet video. But basically to fly a downward spiral to the left here is the rough idea, the exact stick position will vary based on your setup. Ideally, you would hold all these controls at once: throttle at approx 25% - 35%; yaw approx 50 - 75% left; aileron approx 20% left; elevator 25-30% pitch down. I'll shoot anothet video today. I'll make time. Thanks for being patient and for reminding me.

  • Cool flight, but to claim a record you need some visual data? Do you have a screenshot of your monitor saying you were at 1500m? I was waiting for that at the end.

    • ***** - you've say no more than 2500ft because you've jumped out of a few planes from 5000ft. Best you go jump some more because that sure as he'll ain't 2500FT. I'd agree with the poster and say 5000ft.

    • May have a limit and its 500m but you can go past that limit even if it has a lock. Just don't cloud dance where there is an airport. I live in Quebec Canada I'm always watching for planes.

  • Awesome video! Odds of hitting this spec of plastic in the vastness of air space over the world? Im guessing astronomically less than being struck by lightning. Its in the air at airplane altitudes for a maximum of 12 minutes, its about 18 inches wide by 12 inches tall, and theres maybe 1 flight per month to this height in any given 50 mile radius on average. If your plane hits this thing accept that it was your destiny. Take the whining elsewhere.
