  • Ah, Artificial Intelligence. I don't know, it just riles me up because art is human. Painting, drawing, music, anything. It's human, it's intimate. It'd be reasonable if DAWs were to use AI to automate menial tasks, like editing the notes after recording it or something like that. AI music is just like human music put through a blender and then a concrete grinder.

  • I have always quite liked the drummer. It's like with all of these things, they just get you closer to what you want quicker. that's kind of it. But they're no substitute for a human, and they don't 'finish' anything without intervention. As a long-term Logic user I'm keen to understand if the other 'session players' are useful. And are they really 'AI'? What's the definition they're using here? Or are they just using clever automation and set patterns that can flex? Do they properly learn from you? Could you build a model based on your own playing and productions? People keep calling things like Gulfoss AI, but it's not.

    • Is this maybe best done by first figuring if the sound is in the bass, middle or higher frequency mainly? I’m on the older side, so I probably have heard and can name quite a lot of sounds/instruments, just from being a music consumer? Anyway, I’d start with that. Obviously, rather a lot occupy the ‘middle’ ground, without necessarily covering all of it. The violin/viola/cello etc, GarageBand has that clever hack for, they group them altogether, as one stringed instrument, and the DAW just figures which one you must be using depending on where you’ve hit a note from ie low, mid or high. I often use that to start with and then home in on maybe a particular one when the song settles down. Anyway, it reminds me of bird tweets. Lots of pics of birds, with names, are available, but only recently has it been possible to let an app hear the bird chirp and find which one it is.

    • It also says the tokens are only good for 12 months from purchase. Then this: Capturing a 12 seconds sample audio of a voice track Processing the sample with 5 voice presets and trying 3 different Transpose settings on each preset to find the best fit: 12x5x3 = 180 seconds / 3 minutes = 1800 tokens Processing the entire vocal track of 2.5 minutes = 1500 tokens Total processing time and token cost: 5.5 minutes = 3300 tokens Also also Transpose adjustments to an already processed audio capture will require re-processing It looks like if you are very efficient with the tool they are suggesting it will cost about $1 per song. I think. Again, that is if you are super efficient and don’t want to make any changes. What a mess of pricing that is.

  • Saying its AI doesn't make it AI. Suno won't make a whole song ... we need some high quality checking/ filtering for any AI claims right now. The biggies won't do much upon general request.

  • I’ve used the sonar AI voice generator. Honestly, it’s not good. The major issue is that you generate a vocal, but if it has errors or heavy atrifacts, which it often does, you have to pay all over agin to generate another pass. It’s so stupid. You also have to use more tokens to try another vocalist. So you end up paying over and over agin before being able to settle on the vocalist you want. So to me, it’s not good and I plan to try something else. I’d rather use real vocalists if possible, but in reality it’s not always practical for pitches, but for backing vocals it might be useful one day. Anyway, the pricing model they chose sucks.

    • It seems you had experience with an early version of the plugin. All the issues should be resolved now: better preset quality, no need to spend tokens for reprocessing, and different transpose settings. Automatic transpose is also added to improve the processing results.

  • I'm going to be honest... I don't trust cloud-based AI music generative software.... I do not want to upload my creative ideas to any service that is creating AI... I can hear everybody's ideas being mashed up and recognitated back and this kind of software... It feels kind of soul killing.... These talents that take years blood sweat and tears just being lifted and instantly shifted into something very derivative

  • I hate token payment models. It reminds me of the old internet in a really negative way. If you need to make it cloud, just make it a subscription. Or, make it cloud yet still ask a flat fee (+ fee per different voice), like all those synth voice companies do it.

    • We've put tech companies who know nothing about music in charge of the industry. This is the logical conclusion (no pun intended). Don't get me wrong, I use izotope and sonible plugins all the time, AI tools can be extremely beneficial. But I don't need my DAW to come bundled with a generative AI whose whole purpose is to automate my skill set into obsolescence.

      @BenjaminEarlMusic@BenjaminEarlMusic13 күн бұрын
  • I don’t care about using AI as a tool even though I can play the instruments myself I typically don’t, and as a consequence don’t really produce anything but what I don’t like is subscription, can’t afford it, I had the money to buy Cubasis, a ton of guitars and midi controllers and software and I can’t afford a DAW that you never really own and have to keep paying to use it. An argument could be made that the subscription isn’t that much but combined with having to pay for phone/internet, running a vehicle and so on and so on it all adds up and I have no interest or intention of producing music for professional purposes so could never be a tax write off and have no intention of being “an influencer” (in parentheses because I can’t even stand the word), they should use their AI to work out how annoying subscribing to everything is.

  • QOTW: There are challenges for sure like dealing with neighbour noise and personal drive. But these are also things I’m aware of and will try to mitigate. Once again: I think of “AI” as just a tool that you can use, not use, misuse and even abuse. It does not and cannot replace the entirety of being creative nor any other processes/techniques
