It's called a valet key. Very convenient. If you ever lose your keys, this will make ordering more keys a breeze. Great car BTW!
It’s not a secret key, most cars come with a valet key. Three keys are the norm
100% not a secret key. It is literally outline in every manual, it's not like he pulled back the carpet and found one, IT COMES WITH THE CAR AND IS DOCUMENTED. Cringe af
This key is also for valet parking. When you give plastic key to the parking personal glovebox and the truck will still be locked for security. Only when you open the car with main key those functions will be available again.
How would the valet lock the car after parking?

The old Audi s3 use to have one and it’s called a service key so your car will start and work but it won’t let the car go faster than 30mph it was so you had peace of mind when your car was being serviced the people working on it wouldn’t race the car around as it won’t go past 30 mph 😁

When I was vacuuming the car for the millionth time smh 🤦 love my Audi! Oh & the emblems look clean along with the rims but if your board maybe throwing a little color would be a good change like you mentioned. Champagne or gold is good or maybe the chameleon color that just puts a hint in with the black rims like outlining it to make em pop & chameleon emblems! That way it's not to much & it would be bad ass popping with that solid black. Definitely would be original.

I bought a used Audi, and it came with a broken plastic key and without the fob part. But it seems like the “key” part is what has the transponder in it. So I should be able to make a replacement from it. I’ve already made a 3D printed version of my key that works in the doors and glovebox.

I’ve always refer to that as a Valet key (it was handed to me along with the two key fobs at purchase. I also had that when with my previous 2007 A3. It won’t unlock the trunk or glove box and it has a speed limit. Although I never knew it’s referred to as a “surfer” key, especially if you live in the mountains. Lol. Oh well.
I could have sworn that was exactly the purpose.

That key can be used also to lock your trunk. It is used when you have valuables in your trunk and you are giving your car to a Valet Parking. With that key you can lock trunk, back seats that can be open, etc. VW use that key as well. But good that you show the function of the third key etc. Thanks
This is a well known thing in New Zealand and thieves target them for this exact reason, they break the window enter the glove box and drive your car away. It's that we'll known the police car dealers and insurance companies ask you to remove it from your car, also as far as I know the key has no limitations apart from keyless entry
The thing in the glove box is just a shell. There's no way thieves could use it without the plastic key.

I just bought a Q7, the salesman gave me the keys and said the black key was a temporary emergency key that is made to break after a couple of uses. He said they used to have a card key that looked like a credit card that was only good to use once. I don’t know, he seems to be knowledgeable about Audis, I just can’t imagine what scenario that would be needed for. Mine doesn’t have the holder though, only the key because I have the switchblade type key.
I recently brought an Audi A5 TFSI 2017 but it only came with the one key. No spare. Called and emailed the dealer i got it from and they swear when they brought the car it only ever had one key. Called Audi here in UK and they say it should have 2 keys. Was hoping this video would help me out a bit but alas i dont even have this third key. Interesting video though. Edit : i LOVE your wheels, would look so good on my car which is also black. What year is this model btw.
yeah that's a great idea with the wheels bronze them out, so see if when you hold the button when you lock your car remotely if your roof and windows close as well?

If you put your head on the pass side seat and look up into the top of the glovebox there is a yellow "valet" switch.

Actually plot twist. It’s hidden behind the center cap of one of the rims. On this model they basically just pop off by hand.

I would either keep it in a safe part of your wallet or with a friend that you can call instead of a tow truck. Hiding it on your car is a bad idea. If your car is stolen because you left the key with it you might run into a fight with insurance.

I had a similar height difference side-to-side on my Audi A4 B8 2010. I replace springs and shocks all around and then even swapped everything to the opposite side; I reset all the suspension bolts and even took to a suspension specialist. They couldn't find anything wrong and just blamed 'build varience'. I ended up cutting down the height of the high, rear corner rubber pad the spring sits on and that helped a fair bit. If anyone has any other better solution is love to know the cause and fix.

I just got my first A3 but it’s a 2016 my fob doesn’t open or close the windows but not sure if this model is supposed to . Any information will be helpful
What is the spec of your Audi? Is that a standard exhaust? Sounds awesome 🤩 Mercedes has this secret key too and came in useful when I had issues with accessing the boot.

@@Deeennnn1 it’s integrated in the key itself. Mine has a black slide button, which causes this separate key to pop out from the top.
You know if you have the key in the door and hold it in the unlock position the windows and sunroof will open and will close if you hold it in the lock position.
My 1998 B5 has same plastic key. I thought it was added so you could make new metal key if you lost your main keys without busting your window or messing with the locks
So I take it that this is in addition to the metal key hidden in the regular Audi key fob? I just found this out from the car detail shop that I use. They showed me this hidden key inside the fob for my 18 Q7 Prestige and I never knew it was even there. I’ll have to check for this plastic key in the glove box now. I guess people should read their owners manual lol
I didn't know this before but there is an emergency key hidden inside the remote if your remote battery dies. If you take the remote apart to change the battery you will find the hidden key.
My dude, your regular key fob has a secret key inside it. Press the tab on the back and pull only on the silver metal part of your fob. Have owned my q5 for 7 months and just found that out

Hi mate, my Audi at the beginning used to make a buzzer noise when I my headlights were on and I turn of the ignition which used to remind me.
That’s for valet my boy. You give that key to them. Essentially it can do everything except open the glove compartment or trunk of your car.
It can certainly open the glove box.
It can start the car. Once the car is on you can pop the trunk…..

i have one of those keys for my d2 s8 also, but of course without the fob. never knew what it was for, i thought so it was some kind of service key that you can hand over to whoever is doing your maintanance. can anyone clarify what it was for?

Also known as a surfers key, when you go to the beach hence why it is made of plastic. You don’t take your key that you usually use everyday. You can swim with it as well by attaching to your swim shorts that usually has a tag in it to fix the key to.

Thieves also know about the "secret" key. Keep that in mind if it's sitting in your glove box.
@@zacharyshepard104 you can certainly drive the car with a valet key, in whole. Many of the Audis from this generation got stolen because people found out that the owners would leave the whole valet key in the unlocked glove box.

My aftermarket suspension is inaccurate, but it's not a problem....🤭 I'm really not sure if it's the valet key, or an extra, mine has a valet button...
I would check if you have both these parts in the car. remove them I’m sure the thieves know about these keys already. Yes there’s other ways too scan for a keyless start car. But too leave these two in the car. You may as well leave original key in ignition
We had a team of two guys enter my buidings garage. One had a handheld device that within seconds opened every newer car in the garage while the other guy cleaned out everything accessible in those cars. The alarms never went off. Thank you manufactureres for technology on new cars making thievery easier than ever.

Professional thieves don't rely on stuff like that. They already have the tools to open and start your car in less than a minute. Especially if it's an older car like the B8.

Modern cars are actually much more difficult to steal than old bangers. 30 years ago any retard could use basic tools to steal any car. All you had to do was break the door lock and hotwire the ignition. Things are a lot more complicated nowadays, yes, cars can still be stolen but it requires knowledge and specialized tools.

Correct. This key is used if you lose both of your key. You should not keep the key in the car, only the fob part. Keep the key at home in a safe place. Then you can get it if you lose both keys.
There is one massive peice of information that this key does that you have not mentioned.

Also in your main key you have another key inserted inside, just press and hold a button on the top of your key and push out upper part, silver one, out from your key.

What stood out to me most from your Video (I stopped watching @ 2:44) was that you admitted that you hadn't bothered to "Read" (you aren't alone ' most people don't) your Owner Manual... I highly recommend reading it cover to cover... There's a wealth of Information inside, you may be surprised about what knowledge you may aquire about your vehicle such as holding the Unlock Button or Lock Button Open or Close all of the Windows at once (Audi's have had this feature for decades). I use mine for when I go swimming/SUP/bike riding. Water proof and small enough. Leave my electronic fobs at home.

i have that "spare" key fob in my audi a5 but I can't that key anywhere, is there any other place they hide them?
In a bmw they used to have the same thing with the key carrier in the glove box and a wallet/ emergency plastic key. Their wallet key was intended to be kept in a wallet or handbag so if you lost your key while out you could still get home.
Dude found the valet key and thought it's a whole secret key. That's how you know if someone was born in the 90s or 2000s🤣

On your everyday key and spare key if you push the button on the back the silver piece comes out just like that Black third key and you can use to unlock 🔓 the door...

Activity key. Can lock your master key in the boot/trunk and you take that key to the beach or on water sports so you don’t damage the electronic key.
If your key is in the trunk, anyone can jump in and start your car and take off, so not good advice

It’s the swimmers key ! It’s can be put in you swimmers or you can tie on With swim chord. Lock yr other keys in, go for that regular morning swim at the beach, or an impromptu swim and keep yr car locked.

Well, the guy at audi dealer told be the black keys main function is just for copy keys if you lose your main, and he warned me about trying to lock/unlock the door with the plastic key as it is prone to break. epsecily if the lock don't turn smoothly.
