Aung San Suu Kyi appears in Myanmar court on video - BBC News

Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi has been seen for the first time since she was detained in a military coup, after she appeared in court via video link.
The ousted leader looked to be in "good health" and asked to see her legal team, her lawyers say.
Two new charges were announced against Ms Suu Kyi, who was arrested after the 1 February coup.
Meanwhile, protesters took to the streets again despite Sunday seeing the deadliest day yet, when 18 were killed.

    • I am aware of it. There is even that court session available on KZhead where she defends the military, but honestly mate, you and I, we have no idea what deal the military struck with Suu Kyi then. Off the top of my mind perhaps they may have let her have some of her demands and now that is done, they don't need her, (this is just an assumption). What a classic example of being a jerk. Those military fools think they are living in the Stone age.

But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others. “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted". You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything, in Heaven above or in the Earth beneath, or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents up to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. If my people who are called by my name, humble themselves and pray, AND TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, I will hear from Heaven, will forgive their sins, and will heal their land. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. "Matthew 5-7 NIV Bible Gateway", we can use google search. These are the teachings, The Righteousness of our Lord Jesus Christ our God. REPENT, and start doing what is right. If you abide my teachings, you are really my disciples; then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. A time is coming and has now come, that the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and Truth. God is Spirit, so his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and Truth; they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. In the New Heaven and New Earth, only Righteousness dwells. May the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ our God be with you all.

Aung San Suu Kyi was their political leader and feel that military used to have so much power under dictatorship, they need to move before Suu Kyi can edit the constitution to dissolve their power. As a fellow ASEAN member, I only view it from the outsider since internal affair is meant to solve within country itself. However, I hope and pray that people of Myanmar will stay strong and do not give up to what you think it's best for the country.

They fired many times, and destroyed the private properties owned by the houses near the protesting site. They used violence methods to breakdown the crowd. While the girl who is the same age as me was fighting in front lines to get back for democracy. The only thing I could do is write comments on social medias, and begging people around the world to help us. We are suffering everyday! Some were hit brutally with the iron sticks on their head, some got kicked harshly by those soldiers. The citizens have no weapons to fight back. The only thing they have shields and barracks to stall the soldiers from arriving to their location quickly. I am not asking much. I just want everyone around the world to take part in partition and spread the news so that the world will know what is happening in Myanmar. Please help Myanmar as much as you can. Please! • The first hand information I have is that the people of Myanmar turned a blind eye to the Rohingya situation, which was condoned under Aung San Suu Kyi's government as they worked closely with the PRC in the development of Myanmar. Such development brought increased prosperity for the people and contributed further to Suu Kyi's popularity. Why the military would suddenly turn against Suu Kyi is rather strange given that she has been the one helping all this time. Perhaps she was having second thoughts about the cost of development? Or perhaps the military was in fact not involved in the seizing of land and it was all done by Suu Kyi and the military finally have had enough? Either way, something does not make sense here. (Disclaimer: I am not saying that the Rohingya are sweet innocent angels or biased towards them. But the Myanmar people are certainly not innocent in all this.) If democracy is only a matter of whoever has the largest number, then it is no different from autocracy. If the minority is right about something, they should never have to yield to the majority. Democracy without justice will lead to stagnation as shown by Japan's "democracy". History has shown that innovation and advancement have never came from the majority. Truth and justice is determined from the moment of creation and is not dependent on the so-called will of the people.

  • We must return to the origin of this tragedy. The main causes and sequences of events that are understood and circulate in the international community 1. The NLD feels that it won the election with a majority votes. 2. The military claims there was fraud by the NLD along with ballot evidence that the NLD never responded to. 3. The military hold 25% of seats in Parliament based on 2008 constitution and also kept control of defence, interior ministries and key positions in the cabinet. 4. Weak and not transparent general election system in Myanmar, exacerbated there is no independent or international witnesses, so there is no evidence which can be used as a reference when there is a dispute between participating parties. 5. Aung San Suu Kyi was disqualified from being president because her children were born abroad. That was also a clause written in to the 2008 constitution. To get around that she created the role of state counselor for herself. 6. While she was in power Aung San Suu Kyi didn’t really criticize the military, something that was obvious when it came to the crackdown on the Rohingya. She revealed they’re stateless, Muslim minority who live in Rakhine state, where the army says it’s been carrying out a counter terrorism offensive. 7. The UN and Others have described it as campaign of genocide and crimes that include killing children, raping women, burning homes and basically using fear to push out more than 800,000 Rohingya into Bangladesh. And yet Aung San Suu Kyi defended the military operation. Now Suu Kyi is back in detention and If re-election was not needed then Indonesia and ASEAN as a peace initiator country doing is to stay neutral in this conflict and there's nothing they can do. People of Myanmar on the streets hope that the UN take action and passes a resolution to send peacekeepers to Myanmar, it will be difficult to achieve if China and Russia who has veto power do not support it. And if there is a country sending their troops, they will be thinking and calculate is there any benefit for them?, Who will be pay for the costs?, Does the country have natural resources as guarantor?. If they don't find the answer to the questions then nothing will happen. The best way is through peace initiated by Indonesia and ASEAN, discussions with the military junta, NLD and protester representatives are the best way and it will not be easy to unite the will of all parties. But I believe that ASEAN can solve this problem.

  • In Myanmar, the military has always been an independent powerful institution since 1962 coup. For decades, they have acquired the culture of taking control of the country’s resources and acting for their own interest. As a special interest group, they take care of themselves and their families first, while annihilating everything/everyone that doesn’t go their way including waging wars with all ethnic people and civilians including Rohingya people. In the past, suppression of all kinds was easy because the world was never connected like nowadays, so international community just did not know their heinous crimes. Like domestic violence, once it has happened for once, it is relatively easy to happen again. Thus, February coup was just to preserve their special privilege, as they hold the weapons and have never been under the civilian administration. Decades of their rule under various themes and slogans showed that the Myanmar military is just a bully that is not only incapable, unpatriotic, self-serving, but also ruthless, corrupt, and unremorseful. Myanmar people have really been sick of them, but they are powerless. This is one of the reasons why NLD is so popular. Thanks for your understanding and we really look forward to your help with hope. Power in the hands of wrong people have disastrous consequences for the humanity. P.S. The military is also responsible for 2017 Rohingya crisis. After all, they hold arms and were capable of acting independently.

  • The situation in Myanmar is very dangerous. The protest may end up like that of Hong Kong's. The silence of ASEAN is incomprehensible yet this is what reality is. Their silence sends a very encouraging message to military and China is thrilled. Unless USA, EU, Australia, Japan and their supporting some smaller nations decide to make more secrifice to lend solid support to protesters Myanmar is certainly going to be another Hong Kong. Military is going to defeat the protesters fully. I don't not agree with international media's assessment that military is hesitant. Not at all! It is simply looking for excuse to crack down with shock & awe. The best excuse to crack down mercilessly and detemindly is to let the protests go on and on for sometime. On the other hand, for the protesters chance is now or never. Therefore no option other than to come out on street. All options and power lie in the hands of military. Unless international community is prepared to make secrifice to make real and solid difference, democracy and human rights in Myanmar ofare gone and finished. In end China is real winner. America , EU and a few countries with good intentions will be viewed as completely powerless and hopeless when push comes to shove The struggle in Myanmar is not only between the military and pro democracy forces but it also extends ofto struggle between China and other authoritarian force on one hand and anti-autoritarian forces.
