Branding Minimalism + Sustainable Packaging - How Seed Probiotics did it
In the supplements, vitamins & health/wellness space - most packaging and brands pretty much look the same. If you were to line up the bottles of most of these companies; yes there might be graphical differences but the bottles, packaging and in general are basically the same the majority companies are not really owning a custom shape, bottle, presentation or color in their branding.
But this brand SEED Probiotics (www.seed.com) really has nailed the minimalistic branding and packaging design. Not only is this a solid design, but they have produced packaging with a really low carbon footprint using the most sustainable, biodegradable, recyclable and compostable packaging materials all while really separating themselves from their competition through packaging.
In this video Paul Heslop breaks down what it costs to make packaging just like this. He will share with you how you too can separate yourselves from your competition through packaging and if you wanted to make a minimalist brand, what you should and should not do in your packaging design.
Seed Probiotics has been successful in their design approach for these key reasons:
1 - Less is more. Seed’s minimal approach in packaging, all of the negative space and simplicity speaks to who the brand is.
2 - When you go all in on sustainability like this, packaging isn’t just packaging. It becomes part of your brand’s story. Packaging really has become their part of their product.
3 - When you can match colors across substrates and create consistency in branding - you’ll deepen your uniqueness in your brand identity.

This packaging is so gorgeous and luxurious. Makes it worth spending the $50 on minimal amount of product. Very nice
Oh my goodness I LOVE that insert!
I love minimalist packaging. Simple and straight to the point.
For sure. Less is more is a solid principle

This is the second vid I saw in your channel. Where have you been all my life? Def subscribing because this channel is gold.
Glad you like the vids! Thanks for subbing :)
Wow, that color matching tho. That's some sexy packaging.
Gorgeous!
More brands must be like this
Hi. Just found your channel. Great stuff and I've learnt lots from watching all your videos. I wonder if you ever plan to do ideas for small company's that can't do mass packaging production. I'm a one woman company that sells on Etsy and am looking for ideas for stylist but eco friendly (postable) packaging ideas. I'm particularly struggling on how to package a large cushion! Many thanks Sarah
Sarah - thanks for checking the videos out! Yes, small volume / startup is content we definitely want to feature in the future. If you can't go custom to start I would really try to focus heavily on the design. Find and hire the best designer you can find that matches the style you envision. Try searching on Dribbble or Behance, even Upwork for a designer. When you can find someone that inspires you who's style you want to match, contact them. If you don't have a lot of budget, perhaps you can do partial cash, partial trade for your products? The most creative designers know how to stretch and stand out in design even while having to use stock or standard packaging. Focus on also the personal touch it being an Etsy brand, probably lower volumes. What kind of note can you include that also is well design and hand printed or signed? Try to blow people away with the small, well thought out touches...
What can I do
You are fascinating

Can you go too premium for a kids product? i.e. A rigid box with magnetic lid
