25 Reasons You Should NEVER Visit Croatia

It was one of the quickest articles I have ever written.
Less than 25 minutes from start to finish.
And - full disclosure - beer was involved.
A client had asked me to write an article called 25 Reasons NEVER to Visit Croatia, a provocative title, with the clickbaity twist giving 25 reasons why Croatia was in fact an amazing place to visit.
After an afternoon on the Weissbier in Munich, I pulled out a cold one from the fridge and got to work, writing down the first 25 reasons that came into my head.
The client was pleased and - it seemed - so were his readers, as he reported a million clicks in the first 24 hours. It was EVERYWHERE!
I went back into the studio recently to record more videos for my new KZhead channel, Paul Bradbury Croatia Expert, and I thought it would be fun to make a video version of the original article.
So here it is, the latest from the Fat Vlogger. Are you coming to Croatia this summer?

  • I personally work in a hotel in Dalmatia and I can confirm that after talking with guests from most of Europe, a large part of America, the Arabian Peninsula and Asia that Croatia has almost everything. In some cases, people are jealous of the Mediterranean climate, food, historical heritage, customs, indented coastline, and especially safety. When I started to work in tourism branch and before talking to people, I didn't know how unsafe and dangerous it has become in Europe... especially in England because the English tell me that the rate of stabbings and rapes is at the highest levels. The fast and capitalistic lifestyle has destroyed the small joys of people all over Europe and they can feel those things at least a little bit here. We are truly blessed, but to stop corruption and nepotism we have to be better people. Others will not do it for us!

  • A few years ago, a friend of mine from Zagreb told me Croatia was the most beautiful country in Europe, possibly the whole northern hemisphere. Being from the deep Rocky Mountains of Colorado, I contested that notion. Last November, I started looking at going on a European vacation for a week or two and stumbled onto Croatia again. Now, it’s all I think about. I’ve started learning the language, planning a trip for September, meeting up with my buddy and I’m honestly worried about NOT being able to get back on the plane to come home. It seems like a dream, and I’m waiting impatiently for my copy of Croatia; A Survival Kit for Foreigners (should be here Tuesday)!

And mediterrainian climate along the coast. We have desert and volcano...My friend Paul doesnt know about volcano in Croatia...but there is one. So there is an piece of land for everyone to live at and enjoy the life here. Water...fresh water...you can drink from 99% of rivers and creeks here...perticulary mountain carst rivers. 45% of country is covered with forests....there are over 500 000 plant species here and tens of thousands of animal species. 3 venomous snakes...non as deadly as those you have in usa but still....nose horned viper(Poskok) if you will see it...leave it be.there are 2 more and the 3rd you will never see...its shy. There are common insects like bees wasps hornets and black widow spider....and some venomous fish and thats about it. There are bears wolves and linx here too. And well all of them are protected. And of course...if you will see, when you will be on vacation on the coast, european seal....dont disturb it! Even disturbing it can make your bank account suffer...fine is about 10 000$. Same is in keflavik and reykjavik, but soon as you go to city outskirts whole another story, same is with Amsterdamm London, any bigger city or capital where i lived or went occasionaly, as soon as you move out of them, evenif it just 1km out of it, whole different story.. I have cottage, old wooden house in north croatia, 20 or so km from Zagreb, i have feeling when i am there that time stands still, one hour there seems like 30 ninutes in Zagreb lol.. My my mum's parents are from Moslavina, from small town 80km from zagreb, everytime i come there i need time to adapt, coz everyone seems so slow, in stores, on the street.. While a 10:00 AM coffee probably means 10:30 on the coast, and which I do respect and make sure I get to the cafe consistently late, in Zagreb for example it is expected to be much more punctual. In Zagreb and also some bigger cities in the north it is much more stressful and time constrained, probably what you were more accustomed to back in the UK.

  • Thank you very much for your kind words :) Also, we have another UNESCO listed Intangible World Cultural Heritage since December 14th 2021 and it is Falconry. Falconry is ancient sport of hunting with trained birds of prey. I had a luck to be a part of this falconry UNESCO journey since the day one in 1995 and the biggest support which we have on this journey was coming from England and our English falconry friends and I even established Croatian Falconer's Club with help of my friends from British Falconers Club🙂 Also, have been in England this summer with my family in Chesterfield and we were visiting amazing sites in Yorkshire and Shropshire, but a very good friend of mine, who is born from Chesterfield, will soon have his place over here in Croatia as he likes it very much 🙂 I must tell you that my opinion about England and English countryside is the same as you have about Croatia - Wonderful Place and Very Nice People 🙂🙂

Stone quarry is 25 kilometers away, we have to get a truck, then drive on the road. We also have to cross two bridges. You have no idea how hard that is to do. This is not "Amerika"..." Well, so much for my stone fence. Welcome to Hrvatska! The only time Croatians are in a hurry is when they're driving. Actually, I should qualify that; it's only cars with a license plate beginning with ZG who drive fast, and very recklessly. Others are not bad, actually. If you ever see a car accident during the "season" in Croatia, at least one car will have ZG plates.

  • Brilliant bit of irony/sarcasm there old chap. Love it. I worked with a Croatian Marine Engineer who was a really good sort and encouraged me to buy a place on the Dalmatian coast. Instead I bought a fantastic home in France but there times when I think that he was right and a home in Croatia would have been perfect.
