This week at the Château,
Ash and Tony have been busy in a number of different areas. Ash starts with tacking the years of overgrowth and neglect in the walled garden so we can start to make plans for future business ideas.
Meanwhile, Tony has been working on the cottage. As Tony is Removing the ceiling in the kitchen he’s uncovers a problem, and starting work on getting the bargain staircase fitted in one of the rooms. Also Tony has been busy finishing off the treating for Woodworm in the loft for the Château.
Hope you all enjoy the video

About us and our story
We are a family from Middlesbrough in the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful Château to its former glory.

  • Wood treating is so important what amazes me is that the wood lasts 100's of years as it is not processed-the-hell-out-of. Worm holes and termites are the main problem found however once the reach a part of the wood that does not appeal to them it is then move on. What a person finds under all the dust and years of neglect are Oak beams to be proud of. Great job!

  • You guys just remember to take some time off from the work too, it is a marathon and you need to take care of your selves. Many get overworked and tired of the task ahead so it is vital to have some unwinding time, especially as you are living on the site too. You will always see what needs to be done and it can get to you in the long run. Take care, stay healthy, looking forward to the continuation of the restoration.

  • As Ash was cutting down all those volunteer saplings, I was thinking tinder, kindling, and firewood Really nice job on that backbreaking work in the walled garden. I find it fascinating to see the bones of the cottage, and I love the placement of the stairs. I think it'll be fantastic.

  • Like the idea of putting the stairs in the lobby. You could use the kitchen corner for a round table setting or if you’re having a large table in the middle of the kitchen perhaps you could have a corner banquette seating area with a table for Johnny to sit and play games or do his homework or draw while Tracy and Tony are working in the kitchen.

  • Love how you tidy up as you go along with each job! It makes extra work but reduces accidents and dust and dirt getting into other projects. You are both really hard workers and undoubtedly saving yourselves lots of money by doing so much yourselves. The whole project is really coming on now - the warmer, dry weather helps too.

Jonathan seems to be a nice wee boy, not precocious at all which is unusual for a child growing up with all adults. The cottage is going to be marvelous as is the top floor of the Chateau when finished. NZ follower.

  • There is something just so satisfying about cutting out trees, shrubs and extra growth. It lets you quickly see progress and change. Like a haircut. I loved seeing those trees and extra growth come down. The time lapse or 3x time footage was really enjoyable to watch. I liked the stairs when I first saw them, but now I am excited to see them go in. So glad you decided to put the stairs there. I think that is a really sound choice. Thanks so much for sharing your progress. Be sure to show us the chickens here and there. Good Luck to you and yours.
