Mazda6 AWD 2015 FL (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

2015 ж. 27 Қар.
110 091 Рет қаралды

Mazda6 has been given a facelift. The station wagon with a diesel motor gets optional AWD. Mazda6 now also has a head up display, mechanical handbrake has been replaced with an electric parking brake. Mazda added some safety features as well. And the front fascia has been refreshed. Third generation Mazda6 was good from the start, so hasn't Mazda spoiled something here?

  • great balanced review as usual! Back seating in the mazda 6 estate really is too cramped for its class... Only one thing: the background music reminds me of that of an old-fashioned chinese restaurant.

  • I like the 'Hunt For Red October' reference from a man with an accent significantly more in keeping with Clancy's novel than Sean Connery :D Slightly more OT, any adult who finds themselves in the middle of the rear seat in anything in this price bracket for more than a 5km trip really needs to ask themselves if they've cultivated the best personal relationships available to them. 100km in that configuration and you may have a few choice words for your travelling companions.

  • I get a consumption of around 5l /100 km with a manual gearbox (got even 4.3l/100 km) and driving at 170-180kmh on a highway (living in Germany, it’s legal 😂) I got around 6.7l/100km 🤷‍♂️

  • I drive CX5 2.2 175 PS AWD, only with manual transmission (which is great), and I don't know what are you talking about consumption? I"ve noted each gas refuel (I always refuel it to top) and I have average consumption (since I've bought it, 1,5 years ago) of 7,5 l/100 km. It's a result of about 65% driving in the city, 20% on highway (average speed on highway is 140 km/h), and the rest of about 15% is on extra-urban or open roads. And I don't drive it carefully, 7/12 moths with AC on. For an SUV, it's great consumption.

    • Your Mazda 6 isn't the same as the one in this video. Australian market doesn't get AWD which could easily explain why his Mazda 6 has inferior fuel economy than the FWD variants.

  • Great review as usual Marek. Kinda surprised about the part where you talk about MZD connect system, as many reviews are positive about the usability of the system. Any specific reason you don't like it?

    @Nonbelieverification@Nonbelieverification8 жыл бұрын
    • +Nonbelieverification Where do I start? 1. (this is specific to the Polish market, but I suspect it may be similar in other non-English and non-mainstream languages) - translation is atrocious. 2. (again Poland) - map updates are usually a couple of months behind what the map provider offers. As a result the car doesn't know the most recent developments, and keeps rerouting me from motorways to b-roads. 3. In one of Mazdas I tested the MZD Connect even reset itself a few times during the week I spent with it, usually during the last mile, when sat nav was really necessary. 4. The system is slow. On a roundabout with more than usual four exits it is likely I'll take the wrong exit, because it takes ages for MZD Connect to "make up its mind". During the CX-3 launch event in Barcelona me and my colleagues kept getting lost because of it. 5. I find the interface completely unintuitive. Touchscreen works only when the car is parked, which means I'm left with the knob, which I keep turning, and turning to get anywhere. Storing a radio station and giving it a memory number (you'll find this in my Mazda3 review) takes around a minute. One radio station. 6. (again my subjective opinion) The interface looks a bit outdated compared to what you'll find on the market. I suppose if one is upgrading from an older Mazda or another car, which didn't have sat nav, it's not too bad. But compare it to anything that came out within the last two years, and I don't recall this bad a product. I'm saying this as a Mazda owner (fortunately without MZD Connect), who got a good deal on the car via Mazda press office.

    • +Marek Drives Thanks for the elaborate & concise answer. I drove it few times as loaner when my car was at the dealership, but did not have time to do lot of real-life testing. I drive a 6 with TomTom and previous system myself (pre-facelift). Actually like that a lot and contrary to newer MZD it does let you use it while on the move. I find however that most car manufacturers use outdated tech and can improve a lot in that department if they were to put some more energy and resources into it. I'm saying that coming from IT background.

      @Nonbelieverification@Nonbelieverification8 жыл бұрын
    • Nonbelieverification The pre-FL TomTom was good enough. At least it had a familiar interface. As far as I'm concerned I want full smartphone integration in my car. No special apps, like in Renault Twingo, just pure mirror screen. I can't wait for Android Auto to finally work in Poland. I downloaded the app from outside of Play Store, but it has regional restrictions. Unfortunately designing cars takes several years. So by the time a car finally goes into production much of its infotainment is outdated. There are a few notable exceptions though, like Audi, BMW, VW. They seem to offer relatively modern, easy to use interfaces, and features, which almost make it worthwhile to pay outrageous amounts they ask for.

  • Great review Marek. I've got one of those myself - 2013 sport nav, 2.0 petrol. Lots of fun and agree with you - the best looking estate on the market. I'm surprised the fuel consumption is so bad for a diesel. The 2.0 petrol in mixed cycle does about 8.5 l/100km. Pozdrawiam

    • +Marcin Ptak Indeed the fact that it is a new car will play a role. But the AWD and automatic gearbox also add to consumption. I own a 175hp skyactiv diesel Sportwagon manual and do about 5,7 liters per 100km average with combined City+Highway driving. And I am not a particularly slow driver.

  • Funny the wagon costs as much as the sedan here in the Philippines, if I'm not mistaken. The diesel variant here is as expensive as a Peugeot 508 2.0 TDi here, though, so it's a pretty tough choice.

  • Thank You for yet another great review. I'm just looking at this car in this exact same spec but the consumption is quite off-putting, to say the least. Diesel costs 22.50 SEK/liter here in Sweden (around 2 €/liter), and I have 80km highway to work and back home every day, so I don't think my budget can survive this - when there's the Hyundai i40 estate for the same money, same age (2015), 1.7 CRDi with 141 ps, specced out to the max with ventilated seats and what not - but it apparently consumes less than 6 litres/100km no matter what. The only thing about i40 is that it objectively isn't as appealing with its looks as this Mazda. And I have to make my wife like the i40 as she likes the Mazda. Perhaps the consumption numbers here might sway here in the direction of i40 as well.

    • These were the NEDC days, so real life data could be well off. And this is an AWD, which also uses more fuel, than a FWD. I would take into account that in Poland we tend to drive faster, than in Sweden, and 8 years ago I could have been a bit more foolish as well.
