I have been waiting for this topic! Finally and thanks for addressing it! Love the video as always!
I normally just like your videos, however today I feel compelled to comment too. Thank you for the fascinating insights regarding the benefits of the 48v system; very enlightening, and extremely interesting to hear about the aviation applications. Cheers from Singapore, Rich
Thanks for weighing in, Rich!
Great looking car. Tell Kumo I’m also a fan of the cheaper paint on this vehicle. Always appreciate the Aviation references with regard to 48V electrical systems. I also am a fan of these systems and wish more auto manufacturers would integrate these mild hybrid systems into their lineups to get more performance out of their engine platforms.
Thank you @MotoManTV for answering my question about this topic in the comments of a previous video, and reanswering in this video.
Another great review with the usual concise and detailed facts! Thanks very much for your excellent quality reviews, the edit, the visual presentation, the content and the way you tell the tale!
Thanks, Tom!
If you want the matte paint - get the metallic & wrap it in matte protection film. Same look, full paint protection, still cheaper.
I agree 1000%. And if you ever get tired of matte, you can always take it off
Exactly
DAMN @MotoManTV, that’s the best review I’ve seen discussing the Mercedes AMG (4-door) GT series since @rokenr from Remove Before Race. What a GREAT discussion of the 48 Volt mild hybrid system. Apologies for being four months late to the party but I’ve subscribed and clicked the bell to get informed of your intelligent output. Keep up the great work!!! Thanks for the vid!
Welcome to the party, Thomas!
Very good video. Question: as the 48V battery ages, does it warn you that a replacement may be required? If so, how? If not, that is a big problem because, once the 48V battery dies, the car cannot be jump started, leaving you stranded. It would be embarrassing if Mercedes didn't consider such a basic need.
Great review as always. My 2019 Audi A6 also has a 48 volt electrical system. I think it was one of the first to debut that technology.
It was an early car to with that technology, but Mercedes first debut it in the refreshed s class a couple years back, with the mild hybrid straight 6.
@@517sf6 that’s right, I forgot about that! Thanks.
Thank you Kumo. Love that brilliant blue metallic. If dad yells at you, you let me know ok 👍.
Motoman, Do you believe that this 48 volt inline six setup is better than the V6 engine in the E/C43? Performance wise?
Motoman, did you see the bmw M5 CS? Wow, that's a serious sedan. To 60 in the 2s!
I couldn't pull Kumo away from the computer after he saw it. He thinks the seats will fit him better than the last one.
@@MotoManTV I hope we get a review on it when it's available.
I like the MB 48V system, for the performance benefits. As to greater reliability, I’m doubtful. Ask for an out of warranty quote to replace those system components.
I believe if they were to actually do as you say, in putting the (48V) in the top line GT63s it would turn some heads but as well gear that auto shopper toward top performance as well as going sort of hybrid but not full out Tesla style.
Dream var💯🤩
1st thumbs up!
Audis have the 48V or less MHEV systems too. Do you know the details surrounding accessory drive for their setups?
As referenced at the end of this episode, the Audi and Bentley system are only the suspension.
@@MotoManTV thanks, it’s more than suspension (also not all Audi MHEVs have the referenced complicated suspension) right? Found more details here www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/techday-on-combustion-engine-technology-8738/versatile-and-efficient-mild-hybrid-technology-8761
Does it only have 329HP as in the thumbnail? If so then the 43 naming seems to be a bit stretched. An E350 here has 300HP, although with a little bit less torque at 400Nm, also with 48V EQ Boost...
Yeah, but the E350 looks like a sedan while the GT43 is simply a sculpted thing of pure, unadulterated beauty; it’s sublime.
It’s Truely incredible how cheap the cars are in the us. I’m from Poland and the 43 right now, with no options, costs $140k when you spec it to be a drivable car it goes to $190k. For a fucking 43 model. And when we take into consideration that our median income is about $18k/year when for America it’s 30k its even more insane. And what makes it mind boggling is that we are literally Germanys neighbours and a lot of those parts are made in Poland. I’m buying a 2020 model - 4 years old as I’m writing this. And it will cost me $105k. That’s about what’s mentioned in the video for a brand new one.
MB still produces same car designed by Don Sacco with updated materials. Those cars are 20 years old.
It's not true that you're getting more with Brilliant Blue Metallic vs Brilliant Blue Magno. They both have clear coat. However, the matte clear coat of the Magno paint is far less forgiving. The gloss of traditional clear coat not only hides a world of sins. Flaws can also be corrected in gloss paint, but not on matte. What you spray is what you get.
So you are getting more with the metallic paint.
@@dalaanibombina8822 no, his claim was that you're getting more with the metallic paint because you get clear coat, but in fact both have clear coat. In that regard, they're equal. If you go beyond just how many layers of paint you're getting, there's a solid argument that you get MORE with the Magno paint because of the added labor that goes into producing the finish.
48 volts hmmmmm......if it was 40 volts I might have tried my Greenworks lawnmower battery as a backup . I guess this where things are going but hopefully the gas powered vehicles outlive me.
This AMG GT43 thing is a disgrace to AMG.
Love that engine and color. Funny thing I think my Model Y performance is slow at 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and it weighs the same as this! LOL
Until 48v hybrids prove its durability over time, I'm sticking with good old fashioned ICE.
48v is still ICE, it’s not a hybrid or phev or EV
@@kristians2704 when I say ICE, I'm talking ICE‐only (I.e. no mild hybrid)
Could you please stop telling us that there are two different systems for weights and measurements. Its annoying and if you’re gonna do it, tell us the liters of fuel something holds, 0-100kph, and the cost of everything in at least 3 different currencies and then convert it to the current price of palladium.
Im buying a Accord Touring 2.0 with custom rims and pilot sport 4s then spending the rest on strippers haha. Thx
Sounds like a terrible way to spend money..... Spend the rest on hookers.
Don’t forget the cocaine!
@@MelloHubb hahaahah
Real nice but still pricey
1st comment !
Shiny blue w/ silver wheels >>> matte blue with black wheels
Yah, that shiny blue is really sexy.
Get the 43, tune it to the 53 and save yourself 8k. All the same options available.
$1,600 for a polyester headliner made from garbage! But it is from Italy.
You do know that Land/Range Rover hold the trophy for the least reliability.
Let's be honest, all of these cars are 'complex' and can be considering problematic at times. EXACTLY the reason why I am keeping a close watch where this technology goes.
Sexiest car ever !!!
This car perfectly sums up what I hate most about Mercedes. It’s a cls which is a fake badge since it’s an e class. Then to justify raising the price to panamara turbo levels, they put on a second fake badge amg then the third gt. Good products don’t need nonsensical badges that only serve to dilute the brand
This car has less hp than my 2001 amg
And it's faster
@@04tsxpower no its not
@@jhlaxbro27 wanna bet
@@04tsxpower sure lol let's bet lol You're a goof dude. W208 clk 55 with the super charger off a w211 e55 and a stage 1 ecu my amg almost make 500bph. Sit down poser
@@jhlaxbro27 someone is an idiot, video and myself talking stock cars and you hope in start talking modified. Someone dumb here
48volt- no thanks, more crap to go wrong.
Hate to tell ya but that one is faster than the 53
Really? How’s that possible? (Not trolling; you’ve peaked my curiosity… I know it’s four months late but could you fill me in as to how that’s the case? If true, I may forego the GLC Coupé in favor of the GT43. Either one looks great as a fastback! I’ve loved fastbacks since 1966.)
