In this episode Ben shows how to use silicone to make reusable mold for casting concrete. This is an easy process for making a concrete copy of an existing object. I used Mold Star 30 silicone rubber for the molds and Quikrete Countertop Mix in white for the concrete. For complete instructions go to my website. HomeMade-Modern.com
The video is very well done. Clear and using fast forward is a great way to show the whole process in 2 minutes.
You are so talented ! You make it look so simple. Thanks for your videos
I just have to say, I am so impressed with your videos. You are amazing and I may have to start looking for some tools and legos to try some of your projects myself. Thanks!
Very nice! I've been meaning to do some molding
Once again, you done it! I am totally inspired. Thanks for doing these videos. You rock!!!
These are so cute! OMG
This is so cool!!
YAY-A new video!
Hey, I love your videos with concrete molding. Can you make a video on molding multiple concrete sphere balls?
Excellent video! I have to make four concrete "feet" for an art assemblage that will be cast from a doll head and shoulders. I need to secure a bolt down the middle, and I am thinking I can hot glue one in the mold for each pour. I think I would have to make the mold the exact depth of the original so I can access top and bottom.
you genius! so much clever to use a plastic bottle!!!! wow
You REALLY like concrete! :)
Let you imagine do it's magic. Creating products means creating income. I love working with silicone molds. Thanks for the video!
awesome i wish i had one of them
thanks for the video, I have a question: how many copies can be made with the same mold?
I
thats awesome......
Ah! Now you've got me thinking what I can do with such a product as this...
Wait, so I could technically use the mold for making candle with wax right?
OMG thank you!
who needs fancy 3d printers? nice idea!
I love this. Can you please tell me a cheaper option?
Hey Ben ! Hope you are doing well. I would like to create mold for square candle concrete holders. Do you think it's possible? as the mold is going to be deep, I'm afraid it will be impossible to unmould...
I wanted to cast a small model from either a silicone or plaster mold. What type of concrete should I use, like the aggregate that makes finer grade kind of concrete, for a small model about the size of an adult fist.
to make the silicone mold, which materials of the object work better than others?
Nice
I make soaps and I am always looking for nice silicone molds but they are hard to get them as I want and the ones I like I have to buy them online, it takes like 40 days to get them, but with this video I am totally inspired to make my own molds! You are amazing! I love your video! :) Just wondering if those silicons that you use are the same? and how much should I use when I mix them? Thanks :)
+Brzz Wolves KZhead has instructions on making silicone molds from caulk too.
Interesting video. You said you have tested several brands of the silicone mold and I respect your opinion so that's what I'll try. But how much is it? Thanks for sharing.
MRrwmac i used about $10 worth and it was a small mold but i can use that mold over and over.
+HomeMadeModern hello! can i ask you approximately how many times can you use it until it started to not produce such as clenan and detailed objects..i use one silicone that lasts about 20, max 25 concrete castings.. have you find this one to be specifically more enduring to concrete casting ware? thank you!!
Hi katerina, I want to start doing these kind of castings and I've read that you can do 10 castings before losing quality, 20 to 30 if you clean your mold and protect it with some oil coating, but I've seen that ABS molds are the best for concrete they last hundreds of times. I'm gonna start testing all the options and give you feedback once I have some vaulable data
What about a bigger object for garden decoration?
what is the ratio of silicon and hardener cos mine says 100:10 but not sure what that is in ml
Hi there! I'm new to this, so excuse me if it's a "stupid question". I'm trying to make a mold of my hand, that i want to be able to use many times. Is this safe to stick my hand in? How long does it take tu cure? Just so I know if I have to have some snacks close by to survive a long wait! =p Thank you!!
Is there a big difference between Mold Star 15 and Mold Star 30? Mold Star 15 is available on Amazon......
Where can I get this molds in the Philippines please? Or maybe I can order online
whhhaoo awesome
where did you get that head statue?
Hey, i need some genuine advice, i'm trying to make a carbon copy of a teddy bear, it was dogs favorite teddy and i want to place a concrete statue as a headstone for her, do you know how the silicone would act with the original teddy? or is there is different molding liquid to use?
Since the teddy is something soft with all the hairs I think the mold making process could destroy it. I would recommend wrapping it in plastic wrap & packing tape to get the general shape, then make a mold out of it, then cast it in plaster first. Once you have the plaster form, you can carve out the original details. Then, make a mold of the plaster piece to create your more detailed concrete form.
can you use something other than concrete on this mold...?
I'm pretty sure you can, just make sure you spray some mold release in the mold so the new cast object doesn't stick to the mold when it's cured
hey. how can i make a round shape like this one www.houzz.com/photos/11938081/Halley-Round-Lightweight-Concrete-Planter-industrial-outdoor-planters thanks
