One-On-One With Televangelist, Rev. Chris Okotie

Founder of Household of God Church, Reverend Chris Okotie analyses the 2023 general election, especially the presidential poll which is very critical one for Nigerians.
Faced with insecurity, economic downturn that has seen a drastic reduction in their purchasing power, to a collapsing health system and a struggling education sector, amongst many other challenges, Nigerians are desperately seeking to elect a president that will change their fortunes.
Of the many personalities contesting next year’s presidential election, four names are leading the pack. The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, that of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and that of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Who is capable of fixing the many challenges bedeviling the country?

    • What he is saying, can't happen under our current constitution and you can't Institute an interim government in a democracy. That is the issue. For you to have an interim government, there has to be a crisis that requires it. Under the current government system, who will make the move for an interim government since we have a sitting president? So its not possible. For you to have the aboriginal democracy he is talking about, first we need a complete overhaul of the constitution that will allow the federal structure to do the restructuring required. Like that other man asked him, sị you want the legislators to vote themselves out? This is to tell you that this is not possible.

  • Until Nigerian leaders, politicians, senators, lawmakers, government officials, etc; give the right definition of "Democracy", and put it in the right perspective as the definition dictates. We are only wasting our time calling our country a Democratic Nation. The 2023 election is only an organized waste of time. Let's just hope that we still call ourselves "One People" after the 2023 election. Whether we like it or not, we are under an autocratic civil rule. Pure and Simple.

    • My dear he is totally wrong. He is not making any point. He is asking Nigerians to demand a better government through an interim government right? But you and I know that you can't have an interim government with the constitution that we have now ana that's one point. The second point is that an interim government can't just be proposed by the legislators cause they won't. The political class also won't do that because they have their individual political interests. The third point is now the issue, which is how do we create the consensus that will birth the public demand for interim government? There is no way even the people can just get an Interim government by asking for it. Who will give it to them? The same people who will not give them an effective constitution? The only way out is for us all to have a functional regime change which will them on its own push the people to a restructured nation.

With much respect, I must admit he is proposing a model that is not feasible with our level of civilization. Wher are all the philosopher graduates of over 60byeara of university education, where are the lawyers etc. Chris Okotie must be commended for this proposal. This is not the usual cheap beer parlor brand talk of our many round table social media journalists talk shops. Cheap talk. This is original and intellectually acceptable. Unfortunately here, the journalism here is typical Nigerian and lighthearted. The man is laffing and not extracting from this erudite man what he should tell us. I do not see how this will clean the nation butbitsbthe best home attempt. There is a solution and we all know.

  • His calmness and control of the words are so inspiring, but the ideas he is advocating cannot be adopted in Nigeria and hardly in any other country in this age. so basically those are idealist. In the modern age, there are way to to achieve some of the things he suggests- one way is the constitutional conference which GEJ set up but Buhari frustrated it. There would never a time in a country to set aside elected government and constitute a sort of order run by patriots. the argument would be that the situation is not as bad to warrant such a dereliction of duty by the president and legislature. again, it can be argued there is no way to prove that the result of the deliberations of those patriots would meet expectations. It is a costly trial and error for a country- the more realistic approach would be a revolution or having a trusted revolutionary candidate penetrate the presidency and deal with the required transformation.

He himself knows that constitutionally what he is talking about is not feasible. Even the interim government won't work out because it will still be led by the same politicians. Then again, how do you make the politicians stop contesting and suport the interim government?

  • According to the French philosopher Jean Jacques Rosseau, when things are bad enough, this triggers a revolution. So, if the man wearing a suit thinks that a revolution cannot take place in Nigeria right now,, he is in error. As much as that revolution may not occur now, at some point in the future, a revolution will definitely take place. So, unless there is an urgent move to alleviate the suffering of the bourgeois - (poverty-ridden masses), a revolution should be expected.

  • We're in the middle of an election and we can't talk of changing the system now. If PO wins then we can have the opportunity to talk with normal people and a free legal system. The current APC and PDP doesn't care to listen than bribing the people. Let us elect a government that will include the people to change things. Because the youths want a change now and hoping on PO and people are bringing an ideology or speaking big grammar. You should have told APC Bubu this since 2015 and 2019. You all should be Obi-Dient and Yusuful supporters first and put pressure on the next really elected listening government.. Be Obi-Dient and Yusuful first.

    @topetee_baba4359@topetee_baba4359 Жыл бұрын
    • First, nobody is asking to form any professional groups. They are already in existence. For instance, lawyers have Nigeria Bar Association NBA, for teachers you have Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT for doctors you have Nigeria Medical Association NMA, etc. So, instead of having committees in the legislature maybe on health collecting money, let the NMA handle that. Instead of a committee on Education, you have ASUU and NUT handle that. It's not rocket science.

The only permanent thing in the universe is change and if you live in an environment or house that is decidedly inclement because of its structure, is it not better to try another structure or environment or house for a change. The laws were made to serve the better interest of the comity of humanity, and not the other way round.
