    @DakotaDieselDax@DakotaDieselDax Жыл бұрын
    • Absolutely! Why, why, why do so many designers waste this space! It is just so thoughtless. All that space does is collect that sticky, greasy dust! Yes, tall cabinets cost more. So don't buy so many tchotchkes and spend that money on tall upper cabinets! And I think saving money is why they go with "open shelving." What a nightmare. That trend isn't going to last. Who keeps their kitchen shelving neat and tidy and who wants to be wiping them down all the time?

    • Bed nooks are seriously underrated. Who wouldn't want to sleep in a cozy little cave like that? It feels so much safer and 'feng shui' compared to having a view of the front door from your bed. Also, I'd love to see Katie create a little window seat-reading nook thing in her big window by the kitchen, I think it would just be the cherry on the top!

  • Love what she said about small space living. As a family of four who are downsizing from a single family home to an apartment, it can feel like we're "doing it all wrong." There's this myth that owning a home is the be all and all, but Katie's right... It's not. Our family is so excited to be renters again, and to live a more minimal, intentional life together. Love this show! Given me so much hope that I will be able to create a home vibe wherever we land. Thank you for what you do!

Not only did you tick every box in apartment living (storage, privacy, separation of work life/personal space, loads of character, and style). You made 'function' beautiful. You filled every inch of that space with so much more storage that you managed to add livable space to that apartment. I might even rewatch this one, because it's that good. Jaw-dropping design, jam-packed with style & design, and I can feel your love for your friend all throughout the space. I too want a bed nook ("nook it!"). Also, a shout-out to your whole crew. There is nothing wrong with living in a rental and make it your own 🤍 my parents have always lived in a rental because they simply couldn’t afford to buy a home, what are they suppose to do? Be miserable and live in a boring space? No they made it their own and are really happy in there.

    • Totally agree. My husband and I have been renting for years and we have received flack over it from friends. But we don’t care -- we’re really happy with our choice. It gives us the flexibility to live anywhere we want. We don’t spend all of our time maintaining our home. We don’t have to worry about paying for repairs. We have been able to put away a ton of money in savings. AND we can make our space just as beautiful as we could have if we owned. These are all wins, as far as I’m concerned.

  • Absolutely beautiful!!! But...i would've put the headboard of the bed on the kallax and not in front of the window! Other than that 👌

    @renardealors3192@renardealors319211 ай бұрын
    • I thought the same, rather than blocking the light from the window she could turn her bed around, that way real curtains can be installed which means light wouldn't be blocked from the top half of the window either with the Roman shades she put on. Amazing makeover otherwise!

  • The changes Katie made are functional and beautiful. I've never seen an interior designer go back and update a residence. This was a smart decision. My only thing is this factor: It is hard to change bedding on an enclosed bed. But considering how small this apartment is, she really did an amazing job.

    @Colorbrush21@Colorbrush21 Жыл бұрын
    • If instead of that shelving a white curtain was hung on a ball bearing track it would have given the feeling of closing off the sleeping area yet allow making the bed so much easier. Less space for books, but the books are too close & visually busy to look at from the bed. Also, a fold down "island" would have taken up less space. Otherwise, the apartment is lovely! The colors are so soothing.

    • I could be wrong, but I didn't hear her say anything about wanting a TV? Possibly a projector and screen, that way, the screen could roll up - or down - and out of way. The projector can be placed on the side top shelf. As far as the projector being tied into internet, etc, I don't know all of that is done; I have seen this with tiny homes and converted vans/busses.

  • I just shared this video with my daughter. We adopted her when she was 2. We had been told she might never walk or talk but she was apparently not listening. She’s 20 and ready to start college in September. She is also preparing to move into her own studio apartment and this makeover is just full of fabulous ideas. She was already a fan. Her cat, Rascal, sent fan mail to Lottie. In fact, I wrote Lottie in as the heroine in a murder mystery! So thank you! We are definitely going to explore the built in bed. It’s perfect.

Yes, the initial makeover was how I found your channel and that was a great makeover, but this re-do is an impressive showcase of how far you have come in such a short time with your channel, your team, skills, and resources. Your design style has always been excellent, but is maturing even more. Everything about this is 10/10.
