Even though I felt insulted by how much my favourite tank sucks, I'm grateful for learning about some weaknesses, which I did not previously know about.
You really should not consider this as anything other than a meme
What weaknesses? Calling it "a box" and claiming Germany can't develop a fire control system, doesn't make that true. This video is just a collection of uninformed half truths. I'm not getting outraged over it because I suppose it is just a shitpost meant to troll people, but when people think they can learn anything from it, I'm getting worried. Let's go through every "point" he made, shall we? 01.) It is a box. It is boxy because the space you have to fill with armor is boxy. With modern anti tank weapons, sloped armor does next to nothing, so the best thing you can do to protect a tank is to fill all the space you have with as much armor of as much volume as possible and that leaves you with boxy shapes. 02.) Germany can't develop a fire control system. That is hardly worth even addressing, but so much: The Leopard 1 revolutionized tank warfare by being the first modern MBT that was designed to shoot accurately on the move. All the tanks that came before it were basically still mobile fortifications that stopped before shooting. Sure, stabilized guns existed since WW2, but shooting on the move was considered a "hail Mary" thing you did hoping on luck or shooting to suppress the enemy, not to actually hit him. The Leopard 1 was the first tank that was specifically designed to shoot accurately on the move and have that be the standard mode of combat. That is why it was adopted and copied so much. How did it do that without a proper fire control system? If the Leopard 2 had a American system, then probably because of some "cross contract" kind of deal. "We buy your fire control system if you buy our guns." or something like that. 03.) Low fire rate. There are many reasons for why some armies still use human loaders instead of automatic ones. In the German army the tank gun loader has a bunch of additional tasks and responsibilities. For example can he help the gunner with ballistic calculations that allow for accurate fire without the use of the laser range finder. The loader has a chart with ballistic values hanging in his work station for that purpose. Also, the German army uses MBTs for socalled "heavy recon" missions, where they sent teams of 2 Leopard 2s out on recon missions. That might seem strange to the uninitiated, but they have special protocols for how to drive around corners and the such. The point is that unlike regular scout units, MBTs have the firepower to fight their way out of random encounters during those recon missions and also, sometimes you want the enemy to attack you, so he reveals his positions. Having a 4th set of eyes on board the tank is crucial in such recon missions, when you have to look out in all directions and when someone needs to keep situational awareness while the commander is checking the map or making radio calls. Also, the German army has this doctrine that whenever a tank rolls off a open road into a forest, the crew will get out and wipe away the track marks with shovels and tree branches, to make it less obvious to aerial reconnaissance that a tank entered that forest at that spot. For stuff like that having a 4th guy on board is very useful too. You think the guy making this video has any idea of stuff like that? 04.) Small fighting compartment. Not as small as in other tanks like the Challenger 2, where they have to use segmented ammunition because the loader doesn't have the space to handle full sized shells. The turret is small to save weight, which is one of the reasons why the Leopard 2 could be upgraded and up-armored so many times for so many decades. 05.) Vulnerable ammo storage in the hull. If anything penetrates the hull there, the tank is probably doomed anyways. Other tanks, like the Challenger 2 also store ammo, or in the case of the Challenger the propellant for the ammo, in the hull without special "blow out" containers either. On the Leopard 2 storing it in the frontal hull at least has the advantage that the side armor on the front of the hull is strongest. On other tanks, like again the Challenger, it is stored directly under the turret, where the side armor is weaker. 06.) German ADS being "less than a success". There is more than one German ADS. He seems to be talking about the one from Rheinmetall. It wasn't bought by anyone yet, sure, but it is the most effective and technologically most advanced ADS on the market, much faster and more reliable than the Israeli "Trophy" system. Nobody ever claimed anything else and it was tested successfully. So what "propaganda" is this guy talking about? This is so misleading and obnoxious and we're just half way through. **sigh** 07.) Thermal sights being bad. First of all, the current iterations of the Leopard 2 got upgraded thermal sights and I have no idea what he is talking about when he says the commander only recently got night sights. The Leopard 2 had night vision for the commander's periscope from the beginning, unlike, once more, the Challenger 2, which is only getting that feature now, with the current upgrade program. 08.) Combat readiness. This is the first time I heard of any issues with combat readiness or maintenance. I normally avoid doing this in such discussions because it usually is a lame tactic, but in this case I have to say it: Citation needed. The tank is known to be rugged, durable and easy to maintain or repair, thanks to using torsion bars instead of hydraulics and having a combined engine + transmission "power pack" that can be lifted out of the tank in one piece within 15 minutes. If there were low readiness numbers, it wouldn't be the tank's fault. I was giving it the benefit of the doubt, but after watching the whole thing, I no longer buy that it was just "for the laughs". To me this seems like some barely informed military nerd who is sick and tired of hearing how another tank is better than his favorite tank and just spews a load of nonsense to "refute" facts. I'm really curious though, what "weaknesses" this video taught you about?
@@TrangleC I had two reasons for writing that comment: 1. At the time of writing I did not know about the ammo storage in the hull, as I was used to storage in the turret bussel from seeing videos of the Abrams. So yeah, I learned something from it. 2. I found it entertaining to be the counterweight to all the crying fanboys he said he expected in the video.
@@arnowinchester591 Well, you know, there is "expecting crying fanboys" and then there is talking a lot of nonsense and getting deserved blowback for that. It is the same trick all those religious prophets always pull. They always say "The infidels will call me a liar and that proves I am right, because I predicted their disbelief!" You know what I mean? And about the ammo storage... Yes, but the Abrams is pretty much the only tank that stores all the ammo in the turret and that comes at a price and has drawbacks too. The turret being too big and too heavy is the reason why they never upgraded the Abrams gun to the bigger L55 version the Leopard 2 got. The turret drive could not take any additional weight, while the Leopard 2's could. My point being that it is a bit silly that people always single out the Leopard 2 for storing ammo in the hull, when almost all modern MBTs do it. This "Koala" guy who made this video talks about fanboys a lot, while he himself relies on typical fanboy and armchair general talking points. No machine is perfect. Of course there are things you can criticize about the Leopard 2. It is just that people who actually know about tank warfare and technology usually find other things to criticize than those "KZhead expert" types who learned what they know about the matter from arcadey computer games. I would for example criticize the Leopard 2 for still not having any laser warning system. The new German AFV, the Puma is equipped with the socalled MUSS system, which works similar to the Russian SHTORA system and detects when the tank is hit by a laser and automatically takes counter measures. They should have put something like that on the Leopard 2A7, but didn't. I also don't understand why the German army doesn't use gun launched missiles. The Israelis developed a missile (I think it is called LAHAD or something like that.) that can be launched from a Leopard 2's main gun (The gun on the Merkava looks different, but is basically a copy of the German 120mm gun too.) and offered it to Germany, but they are not interested.
@@TrangleC These are the kinds of comments I would have written, if I had the time and motivation 😂 I'm a bit confused about the Laser Warning system. I was told in the army that the Leopard 2A7V had a something like the MUSS on the Puma, though I never saw it in action as I never spent a lot of time in the Panzertruppe. Even so, I think that going forward a Laser Warning system is not that big of a deal, because most modern weapon systems no longer rely on lasers and those that do can be used without directly lasering the target. (We learned techniques how to quickly laser measuring the distance of a tank, without lasering the tank itself for example)

Doesn’t that thing have a ton of issues?
As a former tankie who worked with the god awful Chieftain (starting with the Mk.V) , unless of course it was in a good hull down position. The Challenger 1 was a marked improvement but during the international trials we were given a go on the Leopard 2 A4 which in all honesty we preferred re comfort reliability and a decent main gun . The Abrams M1 was impressive to look at and had some pretty decent target range finders and fire control system(s) - oh and Chobam armour - but was a logistical nightmare . The new breed of Leopard 2s 9A6 onwards) are amongst the best out there and those that the Turks lost was due in part to poor tactical and operational combat planning and I recall seeing several M1 Abrams brewed up when hit by RPGs onto the engine deck in 2003 . Still better than anything the Orcs have . Enjoying your vids pal spot on.
Just for a quick clarification, the Leopard 2’s Turkey lost were old 1985 2A4 models, not even the late 80s models with the upgraded composite armor! The latest 2A7V would be arguably the best tank in existence today if KMW could produce enough of the things! I suspect the Abrams will continue to steal the top spot primarily for that reason, even if fuel and other logistics around it are a pain in the arse! Leopard 2s are also pretty damn cramped! I hear most CR2 crews saying that’s the one thing their hulking beast manages to do better at least! Abrams is more spacious as well, but apparently CR2 (can’t speak for CR1) is pretty comfy all things considered

People also commented this on video he made about T-90A. When will people understand that neither of those tanks are bad, just because a piece of hardware is not invincible it doesn't mean it's unable to fulfill it's combat role
@@slavicemperor8279 I would argue that because both tanks died under similar circumstances (circumstances that are likely a feature of 2020s large scale conventional warfare), that does determine that the Leopard 2 is bad for modern warfare. After all, it's hyper expensive and covered in armor that's all a complete waste thanks to anti-tank drones, rockets and artillery. At least the T-90A is easier to replace and doesn't try to overdo its lane. Hell, slap a B3 modernization package on a T-72 and you basically have a T-90A in terms of capability. The Leopard 2? Those tanks might not be getting replaced for months, maybe even a year. When I compare the job a tank is meant to achieve to the realities of the modern battlefield, I believe the solution is clear; return to what worked for the allies with the Sherman and the T-34 and just make a tank that fills it's niche and can do that niche adequately, then churn out a infinite supply of cheap and shitty tanks. EDIT: Maybe even have them be remote control, so as to minimize casualties. An RC system can be pretty easy to replace, after all.
@@nextcaesargaming5469 Hyper expensive? The T-90A costs around 4.5 million compared to the Leopard2A5 6 million. ( In US dollars ) And like- Armour is the best low tech way to currently counter all those threats. More armour helps protect the vehicle against artillery, cheap anti vehicle drones and RPGs can't penetrate it from the front, and if you slap some ERA on the sides its Immune there as well. Are you fighting a Slow, attritional war where just need Mobile and somewhat armoured firepower? Sure, a T-72 with some upgraded optics might pretty much do the trick. Are you expected to fight a rapid maneuver war? Well then, ya need as much capability as you can get in every vehicle. The General Doctrine in the west is the latter, so they focused on higher end tanks. Of course, most of Europe also didn't focus on war as a possibility in the near future so many countries let their militaries atrophy, baring a few exceptions. Also a remote control turret is much more difficult to manufacture, so unless you aren't capable of doing something like that on a large scale like europe or the US or maybe china, You either stuck with manned turrets, or you go the armata route and simply become unable to produce your tank in large quantities.
@@user-sg9gy8sv9p I recall the Leopard costing way more and the T-90 costing far less. My mistake, I suppose. Can you share where you got the prices? I would find it interesting. "And like- Armour is the best low tech way to currently counter all those threats. More armour helps protect the vehicle against artillery, cheap anti vehicle drones and RPGs can't penetrate it from the front, and if you slap some ERA on the sides its Immune there as well." It's cheap anti-vehicle drones that have been killing Leopards thus far. And infantry portable rockets did just fine in killing Leopards in the Middle East. And adding more armor isn't going to do a damn thing against the biggest tank killer of all; artillery. We've basically hit peak practical protective capability, unless we start using graphine or shield technology. With our current tech, stopping those threats via 'moar armor' is not on the table. Not cheaply, anyway; I'm sure if the Germans decided to make a Maus V2 using our modern tech, it might be able to withstand modern threats, but it won't be affordable or reasonable given current German industrial capacity. They can barely make enough Leopard 2s as is. "Are you fighting a Slow, attritional war where just need Mobile and somewhat armoured firepower? Sure, a T-72 with some upgraded optics might pretty much do the trick. Are you expected to fight a rapid maneuver war? Well then, ya need as much capability as you can get in every vehicle." The burden of proof thus far has been that modern, 2020s peer vs peer warfare is going to be the former, not the latter, thanks to drones, infantry portable anti-tank weapons and artillery. So, the Leopard 2 is a waste. Modernized M60 tanks would be better machine than a modernized T-72 for such a war, I'd say. Only problem with a Modernized M60 is that there isn't as much of a surplus of those as there are T-72s. But, it's better than the cash-cows that most 4th Gen tanks are, so I say it's a worthwhile investment. Hell, maybe even design a brand new tank just for the purpose of being the perfect 21st century attritional tank? "Also a remote control turret is much more difficult to manufacture, so unless you aren't capable of doing something like that on a large scale like europe or the US or maybe china, You either stuck with manned turrets, or you go the armata route and simply become unable to produce your tank in large quantities." Given how all an RC system needs to do is fill the void of a crewman, you just need some low-tier robotics to perform the functions of human beings; tank-droids, basically. It's not the turret itself that is RC, it's the basic robotics within the turret that are RC. So, retrofitting a tank with these tank-droids would be pretty easy sparing you the need to risk human beings, which are far more expensive than some hydraulics and circuits. It also spares you the need to go the Armata route of a slow production run. You'll still need three separate people remote controlling the tank, essentially just transporting the actions of the tank crew to someplace else, and thus you will still need to train them. But hey, at least they are far less likely to die and replacing them will be less of a problem.

Can't wait for him to get to the Abrams, that's my personal favorite modern MBT, though at this rate it seems it'll take awhile. My best guesses for where he'll tear it apart are as follows: -The very weak upper glacis (51mm sloped at 7.2 degrees from perfectly horizontal was great when it debuted but is practically irrelevant now, the tank is just lucky it presents the smallest part of the frontal armor profile) -The fact it still uses Gen 2 Thermals even if they're probably the best Gen 2s out there, they're still behind -The abysmal gas mileage -The massive logistical backbone required to operate the tank in suitable numbers -The massive cost per unit -The laughably high weight -The lack of wide spread adoption for ERA as only some examples seem to be fitted with it and the coverage is only on the side, not the front or roof like some Russian tanks -The fact that the Trophy APS still hasn't seen widespread adoption across most vehicles -The fact it's still using a very dated gun being kept alive on sheer virtue of advanced ammunition
I subscribe in your channel because this series! I really like the leopard 2 and laught a lot with this vídeo! Thank you and update the series!
“Your favorite tank sucks” Me, who favorite tank is the Type 10: the information on this tank for your to roast is going to take longer than to make 4 or 5 videos of this series
i doubt he will say: -the armor is brittle -it didnt get a remote control machine gun -pretty expensive for a small tank

can you do a similar video now about the challenger 2 after today's event? (05 09 23). For extra laughs don't forget to mention that the crew in the challi sits right next to the armour IN the turret which is very close to the tea maker (hopefully that tea maker never has a short with a few wee sparks flying about, you the thing with the ammo cooking etc.).
can you please do a video on the merkava? i am curious about its cons (not in general but cons that actually affect it in combat)
The capability of holding a pint without spilling a drop of beer is the main purpose of the Leopard 2. The rest is completely optional.
Why would anyone need anything else?
So, is this gonna be for every modern MBT? Or do you actually have a tank that you would consider "perfect"?
Without you i would have never knew that t90m and leopard 2a7v were utter garbage am gonna sell all the ones i have for t14 armata tanks now thx
Really aweesome video, however you dont state your opinnions in very much detail. I'd like to see a top tanks or tier list (and why), or a video with "these systems are the best because . . ." love the content, keep it up!
Very much a joke video series this one, don't expect any serious takes
He’s right again!
Please do the T-80BVM, T-14 Armata, and the M1A1/A2 Abrams.
DM53 powder charge change helped with sympathetic detonation this helping some of the shoot here to win target, but yes, less than optimal to be sitting next to all that ammo as the driver. 😂 funny as hell vid btw.

Awesome stuff bro!!
Having driven an l2 a6m in the sandbox. It did the job adequately. This video is fucking BRILLIANT! i haven't laughed that much in a while. Thanks Another armoured youtuber
My favorite MBT is the M60A3. Not good enough for modern enemies, but for enemies like the T-72/T-80/T-90 it will be more than good enough. Tough, easy to maintain and repair, produced in large numbers to make a difference, she’s my girl
what is the best tank in operation right now in your opinion?
Difficult to say, the thing is the “best tank” varies wildly depending on the requirements of the nation and the doctrine under which their military operates - the Abrams is a phenomenally capable tank, definitely up there as one of the most effective… … but it’s a significant logistical burden to operate over something like the Leo or K2, straining the support assets of smaller armies, and it’s far heavier than something like the Leclerc or T-90 or Type 10, making it less mobile operationally and strategically. It’s all about which pros the nation needs, and cons they can stomach to GET them. The Merkava for example is great for Israel’s needs, but worthless to the British or Norwegian army for instance. The Abrams may be great (the Leo too if we’re being honest, this video is mainly a joke), but Japan for example just cannot operate either of them, nor can Singapore or Argentina, they’re just not suitable. Overall, I’d be likely to say the K2 Black Panther is one of if not the “best” tanks out there today. It’s far lighter than an Abrams or Leo, while being significantly well armored for its weight class and highly survivable. It has a very advanced autoloader paired with the single best tank gun on the market today, while carrying 40 rounds of 120mm ammo, and having a top-mounted .50cal, which is something the Leopard 2 still lacks funnily enough. It’s fast, reliable, has incredibly advanced optics and sensors, and when the PIP variant is mass produced it’ll have a hard-kill active defence system making it near unstoppable.
These are great sir, thank you. For the next please consider the M1 Abrams MBT.
Gotta do planes as well!

You fail to mention which version of the Leopard 2 you referring to. First version was introduced in 1979 and newest version is roughly 3 years old (2A7). See the problem? For example, the Leopard 2A7 has a front and rear thermal image system for the driver. Commander and gunner have additional day/night optronics for long-range surveillance. Vehicle also carries advanced command and control equipment and is fitted with battlefield management system.
Yes, this was disturbing me as well. Check this out: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopard_2 @Kampf0r: Perhaps you want to add some information to that page.😊

Cant wait until he does Russian tanks! The heads of the Russia Strong crowd will cave in and their hearts will explode from within their chest.
I bet the only dude who will actually get heated over a video like that will be "RussianThunderr"
Lol true
Lokking forward to the Abrams Roast :D
well the ammo rack in the hull, you wonder ? well the 120mm NATO Ammo doesnt explode, its flame retardant they are stored in individual pipes and the bottum of the round closes the pipe, and if there would be a fire there is a fire Ex. system inside to protect the crew. I was 2a6 gunner/loader but the so called "optics" and gunner's thermal are terrible, if you turn on thermal, its loud, needs 5 minutes to come online (depanding on the temperature) in the sun/heat it may not work at all, or turn of becourse of overheating, sometimes doesnt work at all and need's to be "repaired" the Tank comes yust back from repair and the themals break down again two days later, but a very good 2a6 gunner will take out simulated russian tank's and helicopters till the simulated ammo is empty... and they shoot back, it's basicly like a tank game in hardcore mode a good gunner can take out about 2 russian tank platoon's one by one like ~28-30 tank's till game over, T72, T80, T84, T90 and bmp's doesnt matter, at least in the sim. The russian tanks cant beat a good leo crew, its like Abrams tanks in iraq, our german cat's would smoke them for breakfast, pretty sure. I meen we had some gunner's, they yust need to see a pixel of a T (something) and it was a gonner defensive the tank is good but offensive the Leo is so fast, i dont think that the russian equipment is able to keep up.
Leopard 2 is definitely among the top tanks out there. This video and this series in general are jokes, each point based on a true fact, but exaggerated or cherry-picked for a laugh. As for the flame-resistant ammo, that only applies to the most modern ammo types like DM63. Older Leopard 2’s from the 80’s to the early 2000’s didn’t have that safety to rely on
Do the abrams next, I’ll respectfully be pissed off😂
You should have mentioned how weak the protection against shaped charges is because it uses purely titanium and tungsten as NERA elements. Which fares great against FSAPDS projectiles but performs poorly against ATGMs.
Problem is, Germany is banned on using DU. Hence why the L/55 even exists. To keep up with the USs M1. If Germany *could* use DU I bet ya we would...But cant
@@tramachi7027 Nah man, if the Abrams could take the L/55, it 100% would. Problem is that the tank is too heavy at this point, after all the ugprades. Germany isnt banned from using DU though, it has merely decide against using the ammunition, because of the toxic effects. I dont think that means it cant be used as armour though. Same way how using phosphor as a weapon is considered a warcrime for most countries, but its equipped in almost all tank smoke launchers.
Im pretty sure we have no clue how good the protection of tanks like Abrams or Leo 2 actually is. That stuff has been classified since its inception. Heck, the Leo2 and Challenger 2 might even use DU in their amour without us knowing.
all these Videos are nice, i like my Leopard2 all above the a5 variants. I know this is meant for entertainment but one thing is missing in all of your videos, the doctrine in which these tanks operate would you do these comparisons at some point? i Mean i know the Loepard 2 A4s were blown up but the deployment method and ankaras refusal to upgrade the tanks to modern standards and operations didnt help the case eighther i thing so this might be a vital point for all the tanks you are shredding ^^
