    • TL;DR: the UFC really wanted McGregor to come back and held off on stripping him because they thought they could make a deal. Long Story: That was sort of the intention, but rather than hurry to promote him from interim to undisputed, the UFC and McGregor were in talks for McGregor to come back to fight Tony, finally, but McGregor apparently wanted more than money, he wanted a monetary stake in the company itself because of his role as the biggest draw at the time. That ultimately fell through, and Tony was set to fight Khabib for undisputed status. Tony then trips over a cable and tears his ACL so he was out of the fight, so featherweight champ Max Holloway steps in to fight Khabib for a chance at being a double champ…. Then Holloway pulls out because of complications with his weight cut, so the UFC searches through the light weigh roster for the next best thing, ultimately settling on Iaquinta who took Khabib to a 5th round decision (no joke, massive props to Iaquinta for that. No one else has lasted five whole rounds with Khabib before or since). Khabib becomes champ after the win, McGregor has a long established beef with Khabib, and is more willing to fight him than Tony because of it. Conor still doesn’t get a stake in the company, but his Proper 12 Whiskey gets promoted by the UFC, and he agrees to the fight after two years away from the sport. Khabib dominates Conor. Everyone saw it coming. Bottom line, Khabib and Tony still haven’t fought and probably never will. Bummer.

  • I love Conor, but he really fucked up that division by holding it up for so long, I’m glad khabib is a relatively active champ

    @NoNo-kl4dv@NoNo-kl4dv4 жыл бұрын
    • Exactly. Khabib needed 9 fights to get a title shot and Tony was immediately stripped of his interim belt because of a knee injury while McGregor always got a title shot in lightweight and was allowed to have his title for like 2 years and not being stripped. He was only stripped when the fight of Khabib and Iaquinta began. And now UFC249 got cancelled. Dana stays the problem and is to blame.

    • Zero Chance yeah I understand Conor getting the fight at 229 since he was the lineal champ, but it should’ve been tony immediately after, not Dustin

    • I hate to say it, but having Khabib as champ feels almost as bad as Conor lol

    • Pickle Wickle I agree tbh idk khabib really fucked up the division by getting suspended for so long too
