Rabbitry update 30 cages, 30 does, 30 days later

Piece by piece we are putting our rabbitry together. With the racks to organize our cages we are getting good use of the limited space that we have at this time to grow rabbits.

  • you're doing the right thing with supplementing the food that I do not grow the black soldier fly to for the chickens they break all the produce and stuff we have left over but for the rabbits it's good to do that what you're doing with the apples and everything that's probably why you're getting a good productive right there if everybody is eating just right there going to start breeding

  • Awesome rabbitry. Only thing that would make it better in my opinion is more heritage breeds like the American Blues or whites, the American Silver Fox, or American Chinchillas. Really anything on the livestock conservation website listed as endangered. I think Californians and new Zealands are way over rated and find the heritage breeds to be much more rewarding. Feel like your saving a piece of history. and from my personal experience the heritage breeds have great temperaments for pets as well. I love my buns they are so much fun.

  • Your gonna be sooo busy just keeping the grow out pens well food supplied as the 4wk olds get pulled from does --average 8 young per doe ,,Rabbit meat is wonderful and easy to raise . I wash very well all produce before I give out to bunnies to wash off any pesticides ,ect. Some plastic pop bottles will screw on the nipple water tubes if you run short --I just swap a double set of bottles around -frozen to thawed was easiest ,,automated systems just freeze and break -cheaper to feed 2 preg does than one house cat ,but the cat keeps the mice cleared out saving my feed pellets too !! 4 does keep my freezer full all year and on the table 2/3 times a week and in lunch box too.

    @hammadsadiq5716@hammadsadiq57165 жыл бұрын
    • If you give your doe a break between litters she will kid for longer and probably live longer. You can breed them the day after they give birth for 2-3 years before they are bad mothers or burn out on breeding (infertile) Rabbits do not go into heat and after the does eggs mature they will have babies in all seasons. It's harder to breed a new mother in winter she might not keep the babies warm. Californians, New Zealands, and Rex rabbits are best and will reach 10-14 lbs

    • Holly Charlotte its a brassica(mustard greens, kale, canola all the same species) they contain an acid that is toxic to rabbits. Do not feed it often or it can build up in their livers and kill them.

      @dimedriver@dimedriver7 жыл бұрын
    • Avery Nisbet I have a diploma in Animal Care and Nutrition. Mustard Greens are not deadly like the OP claims for rabbits, AT ALL.

      @snowwhiteandthedread@snowwhiteandthedread7 жыл бұрын
    • Go look up oxalic acid. Its poisonous to humans too. We are just much bigger and don't eat proportionally as much as rabbits. All brassicas produce it. Mustard greens and broccoli are both brassicas. Most brassicas that people eat are very low in this acid. rabbits can not excrete this acid so it builds up in their bodies over time becoming toxic. Depending on the conditions the plants are grown can also have an impact on the amount of acid present. It's an ok sometimes food or treat but not an everyday food. It's toxicity can also very by individual person or animal. I've had several customers who could not handle brassicas due to this acid. A few were rabbit breeders and warned me about it. As I was growing quite a few exotic brassica greens at the time.

    • shimmyshanka you don't know what you talking about.. Learn how to do it then criticize. These rabbits are for the pot not pets. Rabbits burrow and breed prolifically so if they on a fenced plot of 1/2 acre..approx 2000m2 35 does within one year can reach almost 2000 rabbits causing starvation. If one gets sick then all do. Unfortunately there is no way that is the right way. Find a way that is more humane then come back and show us the light.. Perhaps he could have smaller gauge metal cloth so that it's more comfortable on their feet.

    • Bunny Lover look like healthy well taken care of animals to me. I prefer community rabbit living enclosures but use cages for aggressive or bully bunnies too. It would require very large space with lots of hiding spaces to support a heard of this size. Rabbits can be very territorial. Welcome to the real world where everything isn't butterflies and rainbows. Maybe if bleeding heart liberals didn't protect all the decent land in America we could afford enough space to raise them in better spaces but things aren't free and sometimes you just have to do what you can. Must be nice to sit around in the A/C while someone else grows your food, someone else builds your home, and someone else entertains you. All personal responsibilities this culture puts off on others. Gtfoh you bleeding heart libtard tree hugger.
