22 years ago today, the world lost one of the best and most talented vocalist to ever live and that man was Layne Staley
The world didn't lose him , he took his life by Drug addiction
When Layne sings "feed my eyes" immediately after Jerrys masterpiece guitar solo, it is just insane. I remember when this song came out. I'm sitting here in 2024 at 60 years old listening to music on a Friday night and I've listened to this song four times! Not only one of their best songs, one of the best rock n roll songs ever!
I remember the night this premiered on MTV Headbanger's ball. I was doing my homework and not paying attention much, then suddenly WHAM! This song hit me like a mack truck. I skipped school that Monday, went to Harmony House instead and grabbed the cassette. Sat on the river all day, listening to it in my walkman. Good times.
What's Harmony House?
@@scoobydoobydoooo must be a record shop, my guess. Who remembers those? Ha!
I remember MTV the summer 1990 airing this and it was unlike anything else at the time. I was a Crue & Van Halen fan and was crushed by this new sound.
Theres a wiki page on a harmony house retailer that mainly served the new york area, i think. Well there we go then.
Harmony House!!! Man, those were the days.

Your wrong it's me I got his vocals and I had no idea just wait on it
As a black man from the other side of town, I'm so shocked that real rock is no longer in popular music. This is good music for the mind, easy poetry, hard vocals
Well, whether it's popular, or not, is debatable, because there are SO MANY MORE music subgenres, than there were 30 years ago and everyone can find something for themselves. But, nonetheless, I'm glad you like it, man. Rock on! \m/ 😉
@@ronrocker7131 this is objectively better than the rap crap that pollutes the airwaves these days.
I think it's because of the music industry, the record companies, they still determined who gets a contract, who gets played on the radio... it's so sad! This is a true story: When I was 18, we said goodbye to Layne, and I was really sad. I read that layne had a foundation made in his name. I wrote a small letter to them, explaining how much Layne meant to all of us, and a lot of our youth struggles with drugs, depression, etc. I wrote that I was an addict too. Since I was 15. I also sent $1. I was definitely not expecting a letter written back to me from Layne's mom. Her name is Nancy McCullum, and she runs the foundation. She sent me a poster of aic from the Moore Theater, some stickers, and in solemn disbelief, the program from Laynes celebration of life (or funeral) The program had the names Chris Cornell, Mark Lanagan from Screaming Trees, and Nancy and Ann Wilson from Heart. Chris Cornell and Heart did a cover of "Ring them Bells" written by Bob Dylan, and Mark Lanagan read a poem Layne had written. Anyway, I never thought that sending $1 to Laynes foundation would merit anything! Nancy, Laynes mom said encouraging words to me in regards to my opiate dependency. After years of on again off again substance abuse, I'm finally 150 days sober. It gets better. Thank you Nancy, Laynes mom, for the awesome keepsakes, and for giving birth and raising my favorite singer. God bless and take life one day at a time.
God speed my dude.. your over the hump.. keep it up!

Ok so check this out--- you say they died on the same date 8 yrs apart. Chris and Chester both died the same way and Chester died on Chris' b-day. I seriously think there is something evil linked to a lot these stars deaths. Think about how many rock stars and Hellywood stars that either died young or had someone they were very close to die in a weird way. Such as Eric Clapton's son fell out his apartments high rise window. Many of their loved ones were murdered. Idk, but personally I believe anyone that is allowed to become an Icon has to make a deal with the devil. I think they seriously make an oath of sacrifice. A blood sacrifice. If this seems way too heavy for you then just open your mind and research it all for yourself and make your own decision. Speaking of "Decision" - go watch Alice and Chains video to "It's your decision!" Notice the illuminati sacrifice, sex, and cannibalism clearly portrayed through out the video. Makes ya think..........

Honestly....I have been a drug fan, an alcohol fan (which is a drug), and if you told me I could win a million dollars if I could position a shotgun into my mouth and pull the trigger with my TOE when I was f_cked up.....there is just no way. Oh yeah
My first time hearing it
Your mom's lit
Rest in peace Layne Staley. I pray you're not suffering anymore wherever your consciousness is
Seriously, everyone in this video is beyond hot
How the fuck could anyone dislike this song. Literally a masterpiece in song writing, structure, lyrics, and chops on their respective instruments. Soundtrack of my child hood. Much love AIC.
Typical trues who think they are better for hating grunge bands, or anything not as heavy as their shit music
The solo is fucking sick !!
Disliked for the censorship. "Shove my nose in spit"?? Thats not how the artists wrote the song.
@@timdumler5628 that is pretty weak. On MTV, they should have played the word "shit" backwards, like they did for the word "joint" in Tom Petty's song "You Dont Know How it Feels".
❤ this song
parents: grunge is devil song alice in chains: hold my jesus
I love grunge
yea, "jesus christ, deny your maker", are such christian lyrics bro
@@deeznuts-rp2ms when you take it out of context like that it looks bad, but the verse goes, "Jesus Christ, deny your maker; He who tries, will be wasted." They're not saying turn from Christianity, they're saying that those who do are lead to their downfall.
@@jacklane734 ooh, sorry my bad.
@@jacklane734 They are saying they LOATHE Christianity, and all other religions. Isn't it obvious that jerry and Layne had hideous childhoods at the hands of religion?
As a blk man this his voice bring tears of emotion
How bout 2024 💪🏼
I can't believe the 90s were 30 years ago!
And 30 year's ago the world was somehow better or felt better as it feels now... ...
...welcome to old...take a seat.
Naw man, it's just yesterday... Time sucks. 🤘🏿🐾
It's Depressing!!!
I mean, technically they only *started* 30 years ago. They ended just under 21 years ago.
This is as 90's as it gets
Fuckin a.
where is your music?
Between this album, Nirvana, and Ten by Pearl Jam you have my 90s soundtrack lol
Saul David Alinsky ?
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
Rip Layne yall were badass still jamming with it 2024
Facelift was the first metal album I ever bought as a kid. Takes me back to a simpler time.
Can we also appreciate the fact that Layne basically wrote from an animal point of view?
Erick jerry Cantrell wrote this song and he wrote around 90% of AIC
Layne wrote this song. You all have bad info.
Tanner Neal you are wrong. Layne wrote this song and he also wrote about 50% of all Alice In Chains lyrics. Cantrell wrote almost all the music but layne did write both lyrics and music to two songs one of which is angry chair and the other I can't recall.
Erick no, we can't. Nonsense
Bob Sacamano Unnecessary
this song has one of the greatest vocals ever
to me it's really huge to get likes under Layne's video
@tek merion that was creepy! I liked it
Listen to it live at the Moore theatre that shits insane
@@TripleA247 hilarious
@@billyprice327 awsome!!
Let's be honest, we all sung or wanted to sing along with him at one point or another.
I don't get it. I remember this video airing before anything nirvana. How is it nirvana took all the glory for starting grunge/alternative?
No one gonna talk about that killer solo ? People underrated early 90s guitarists for some reason
This song was the first of its kind back in the 90’s! Nobody was putting out sounds like this! It was crazy good
I think the main reason people underrate 90s guitarists is because the 80s was filled with songs and guitarists who had and played killer solos, where the 90s didn’t have as many insane solos as the 80s did
@@xXGarlicBreadThotDestroya615Xx No one underrates Dimebag Darrell lol
It was a classic 70s style solo too dumdumbadababawAahhhh
An ultimate solo. Perfect
Imagine how awesome you'd have to be to create a song like this
ikr, jerry is so fucking awesome
right! believe it or not this isn't even close to their best they are amazing
Layne wrote the lyrics.
@@twiztidrox1 He wrote the lyrics with Jerry
I wouldn't call it awesome. It's an extreme lack of lyrics, all chorus which is good, but it's not Stairway To Heaven.
Wow he looked so healthy in this video. Talented young man❤😢
0% twerk 0% nudes 100% pure style 100% Mushroom 100% LSD 20% Dean winchester
Love 98% of AIC's songs but this one, Man In The Box, is my absolute favorite. I'm 53 and can still bang my head to this song. My neck hurts the next day but I'm still there.
Same. I'm a soccer Mom doing the dishes to this right now 😅
65 and banging right now. 🥰
Agreed my favourites are this song and rooster
@@catherinejasin2606 Well heck yeah! Rock on, sis, rock TF on \m/
