What was the purpose of the leather on one end of the mallet? Thanks
To protect anything the mallet is used for
milling it on table saw without a stable backup or a jig was dangerous ..plz keep in mind most are amateurs and trying your method without safety knowledge or caution can be life threatening.

You made this project harder on yourself multiple times dude. Like you could've used a simple knife for when you filed the handle and you could've hand sanded most of it
