  • The karate I was taught did knees different. Goal is to lean forawrd not back but that is hard. And also scoot or slide forward as you do it. Leaning back or standing taller makes it look more like kickboxing. You want to move forward as you attack to use your body weight and then finish with face punches or chase him with punches if he backs up. If he just stands there and takes it he is hurt and punches or maybe elbows. Hiza geri to abs or sternum mawashi hiza geri to ribs or organs.

    • Depends on the style of Karate in my Dojo I learned these styles of knees

      @mactysonkarate@mactysonkarate11 ай бұрын
    • @@mactysonkarate is it a style difference or practioner to practioner variation? I did a weird style of karate where basically anything natural was "wrong". There were millions of little details and hidden things. The takeaway for me was there is generic kickboxing that relies on brute force and if that fails there is some type of body mechanic that is unnatural and harder to learn but increases power once you do. I did shito ryu. Not sure what the emphasis was. I just did as told and did not ask questions. Some say the emphasis is speed. I guess it would depend on the style of shito ryu. Hayashi style shito ryu might be the speedy style of shito ryu, more so than mine. Bas seems to have a planted stance as he uses front knee to body. My sensei would slide in as he knee'd me and use that to set up face punches. He would lower body weight as if a crouch as it landed sort of like body weight punching, if that makes sense. It hurt because it felt like a penetrating attack instead of just impact. Like poking kidney deeply with knee. One time I was visiting at a full contact club and practicing with a girl member there. She did a knee to body in a slow and static way. I just let her do it. It was a paired practice like self defense application from kata. You hold shoulders and knee stomach and then run away. She did it and I didn't feel anything. So she pressed deeper and deeper. I felt it a little and then a lot and then it felt very bad. This was all slow and static. She thought I was weird and wondered why I didn't stop her like the normal practice others would not let her hurt them. I trusted her and wanted to see how strong it could hurt. Point is she was weak so needed to overcome that by penetrating deeper with her strike. I think speed is for girls and power for men. This might be gender/build/ability specific even in the same dojo... or not.

I was telling someone I like a front kick and a front knee, I can take it upstairs to the chin, they said I must be some type of amateur to say that. They never heard of Anderson Silva or Bas. I said yes, I am not a professional. Talk is too cheap for me anymore, actions speak better. Do what you're comfortable with and listen to Bas.

  • The toughest guys don't wanna fight you, not unless it's self defense in that case, you're going straight to the hospital. The hardest hitting guys do not want to do MMA, they like people in MMA and do not want to destroy them. True martial arts is a life or death situation, this is the way I always saw it. Sports are just playing around, we pull our shots and we take it easy, you don't want to fight people for fun or money. If they started taking it too seriously, then I would defend myself the way I know how to do on the streets, and they won't get up soon if I connect. It sounds like some tough guy stuff but I learned this a long time ago, I started at a young age and my dad was a fighter, a kickboxer who did Karate, 3rd degree black belt. It must be in my genes, cause I can do some serious damage to someone now, I really don't want to do that. If I was a psycho killer then I would have been involved in this sport a long time ago. The more I watch MMA the more I am convinced you guys are pulling your freaking punches, that or your faces must be made from thick cow leather. Crow cop kicked people in the head pretty hard, and people probably have brain damage now, like Mark Hunt. Chuck Norris would kill you guys, for real if you put him in a cage, he kicked probably a lot harder than Cro Cop, just forget it. People were scared to get hit by me, everyone was who knew what would happen, even big strong guys they got scared of me, this is how it should be unless, you're just doing something wrong, people should respect your striking power a lot, especially if you know Karate. It's all about generating speed, speed x power = force. So you need both at once, for the most force, but if you need to hit your opponent 12 times...I don't get it. Ali had speed and power, in his prime and so did Chuck Norris, all the greatest fighters of History could knock out anybody, cause they had this rare combination of speed and power, Van Dam had some speed, to go with his power, he was a great fighter in his day, so was Superfoot Wallace !.

    • Wondering the same. It would be affective

      @AVWAP@AVWAP11 ай бұрын
    • Same reason why they don't allow kicks to the thigh. They want it to not look too similar to the known kickboxing formats. Fighters not being able to gameplan around killing that thigh muscle increases the distance a bit and slows down the action less, so it's a bit of a different fight dynamic to watch compared to Glory for example.
