Guys, you got Forever skies' state so wrong. It was launched in EA in June 2023 and haven't left EA yet. It's planned to go for 1.0 somewhere in 2024 and arrive at PS5 the same day.
Worst timing yet
Microsoft is having an identity crisis. The only company in the "Business" of gaming to want exclusives is HARDWARE makers. Publishers and Developers want their games on everything example, Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox....... Microsoft is now one of the biggest Publishers and Developers of Video games and they are dealing with their own legacy desires not the fan base. They will continue to blur the line for the eventual dropping out of the console race. Until then we will get mixed messaging.
and thank you to fromsoft making sure this show is always just out of date
Couldn't have released it later for that Nintendo Direct haha.
Perfect timing for the Elden Ring DLC
Poor Shillup, worst timing in the industry.
beat me to it
LITERALLY like 15 min before it drops lmfao
They announced it yesterday, he could have added something if he wanted
@@TehPwnographer you know how much that would mess up the flow of the whole video? Between the script and editing it would be difficult if you already have other things to do
SkillUp of course uploads half an hour before Shadow of the Erdtree's trailer drops. Classic.
Typical Skill Issue
@@ignacydrozdowicz8107skill up issue*
A literally not ShillUp kinda move. What a lad. Classic allergy to money.
And hi Fi rush on PS5
This one is their fault. They literally had a count down a day before the announcement dropped.
At this point the show should change to Thursday, coz Shillup dodges these game announcements like they were souls bosses
All the announcements would just move 😂
You really think that will change anything? You must be new here
@@ZachBobBob Yeah, I can see all of the devs intentionally timing the release of their trailers to be right after Skill Up uploads a video just to troll him.
“The switch is slightly more powerful than a refrigerator but not one of those fancy ones that dispenses ice”. This got a good laugh out of me.
The Switch truly sucks. It's very dated and if the Switch 2 is delayed for the better I might be interested in it. But knowing NintenDon't I doubt it'll be on par with 2019 PCs/Series X/PS5.
It'll be on par with a low end (RTX 3050) laptop
@@noobbotgaming2173 I know it's not Nintendo's "thing" anymore after they lost the 6th generation to Sony AND Microsoft, but it certainly wouldn't hurt them to _try_ to make a moderately powerful console. Even if it's just to make Zelda and Pokemon run at a playable framerate. They could use some of the 64 bit era attitude towards graphical improvement.
@@QuanNguyen-yw3ft I _highly_ doubt that. Unless you can provide a primary source.
@@QuanNguyen-yw3ft With a severely, _severely_ downclocked low end laptop. For reference, 3050 mobile hits 1343 MHz at 45 W. The *combined* power draw of current Switch SoC is 15 W, and I doubt Nintendo will go higher with Switch 2. At 10 W, 3050 mobile would hit about 450 MHz clock speeds, give or take. Memory clocks also take a beating since regular RAM is used, the amount of cores is also cut... By the end of it all, I'd be surprised if it could play demanding PS4-level titles at anything above 480p upscaled to 720p, to say nothing of being on par with any of the current gen consoles.
The Elden Ring DLC Timing is absolutely hilarious again
I think the game devs intentionally time their trailers to be released ASAP when Skill Up releases a video. I would laugh my butt off if one of the devs of a game make a meme off it and make an announcement right before they release their trailer that they are intentionally releasing it after Skill Up releases a video. 🤣
PlayStation talking about hardware sales winding down is crazy when the ps5 just became widely available to purchase in the past year. For the first 2.5 years you couldn’t find them on store shelves and had to fight scalpers online to get one.
Capitalists are so far removed from reality they have zero clue as to what is going on outside their shareholder meetings
It definitely hurts that the library of games to come out were not that many, but also largely cross-gen, in at least a select case had to finally upgrade to get the DLC, like Forbidden West.
all the scalpers are winding down their operations. ps just sayin the quiet part out loud
Stop fooling yourselves only. The only reason why the PS5 was scarce was because they never release it in major quantities at that time. For trolls like you the damn console industry is actually in bankrupcity but it takes a while for fools like you still biting the dummie hook saying: Hey PS5 IS MORE LIVE THAN NEVER ! Get lost.
That was my first thought. It's February 2024... PS5s are FINALLY available as demanded, and now they immediately want to sunset the console??? You can't start developing a PS5 game today and have it come out before the PS6 if they really do intend on moving on... Not to mention that you just can't, largely, make a game ONLY for PS5. If it's not back-compatible with PS4, they'll force every Dev to make it compatible with PS6. It's knee-capping the console game market. There's like 5 different generations of computing hardware you have to plan around just to release on PC, Xbox, and Playstation.
Its interesting how we're seeing the same thing in both film and video games. The biggest projects from the biggest studios with the biggest budgets are routinely falling on their faces, while smaller projects from smaller studios with smaller budgets are making the real hits. Godzilla Minus One and Helldivers 2 being the best examples of this. Just goes to show how much genuine passion for what you're making matters.
they keep pushing prices up, we cant take it. simple fact, cheaper AND better makes it real hard to think they should actually 'need' to charge 70$
Product of capitalism.
@@bradhaines3142 But you see, 60$ now isn't 60$ 10 years ago, how are they supposed to pay their employees? (whose wages havent increased in 10+ years)
@@slyseal2091 executive pay has increased plenty. see the problem now?
Well, there's also the issue of project scope. If you have 5 years and $200 million to make a game, you best believe management will try using all those resources and more, regardless of whether it'll make the game better or not.

Juuuuust missed that Elden Ring Trailer. Someone always gets ya at the last second! Who knew Fromsoft was the final boss lol
Sometimes the lack of research is just strange, Epic is giving away Super Meat Boy Forever next week, not Super Meat Boy AND they have only given Super Meat Boy away one single time, not four times, like he claimed.
Star Wars Battlefront Classic and Elden Ring DLC were waiting for Shill to upload today.
This is the single best weekly video game news show anywhere, ever.
Consoles have always been a walled garden that sold at a loss to subsidize software sales. Microsoft is simply attempting to ditch the walled garden, and bravo to them for doing it.
The funny thing about Skull & Bones is that Pirates of the Caribbean Online was a better, more fully featured pirate game for the 6 years it lived ending the same year they started working on Skull & Bones.
What helldivers 2 tells me is that longer development timelines with smaller more passionate teams is better than these mega budget huge studio developments much of the time.
Game-Games > Movie-Games
Also, focusing on gameplay and player agency over hand-holding and trend following.
sometimes those huge 1k dev games just get lost in the sauce.

Released just before not only the Elden Ring trailer, but also Pentiment and Grounded both being announced for the Switch. You can't make this up
Oooooh. Pentiment for Switch? When? 😮
@Payadopa I think today!
And the original Star Wars Battlefronts _finally_ getting ported
This Week in Videogames is probably my favorite youtube series ever. I don't even play that many games comparatively, but I love discussing games and Ralph's passion for them is absolutely infectious. Thanks for being such a valuable proponent of such a beautiful medium of art!
Hot take: Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment are not "console sellers", but they do help to have a varied and interesting library of games on your platform which might eventually make people want to get your console. I might get a Switch because of Mario Odyssey and TotK, but having MK8, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Mario Maker 2 and many, many other exclusive great titles, definitely makes the proposition MUCH better. Not sure if only having 2 or 3 "console selling" titles (and the rest in other platforms) is enough for many people to justify spending hundreds of dollars on a machine, especially if you already have another one that can already play the rest (and which already has their own exclusives). So yeah, not sure if this is the best move for Microsoft if they still want to sell tons of hardware.
Assuming console gamers aren't going to jump to PC, I think the GamePass might have the ability to move a lot of hardware as the best deal in gaming.
Absolutely. Had I not sold my PS5 and gotten a PC, I might've gotten an Xbox for stuff like HiFi Rush, all these smaller titles add up. I was definitely never gonna buy an Xbox only for Gears and Halo.
@@kingnull2697 I agree, but so far it hasn't been the case. The Series S was supposed to be the "entry point" for GamePass at a low price and it hasn't sold very well. Besides, though, GamePass is available in many places. You can use the cloud version on new Samsung TVs, on your tablet, phone, laptop... and I imagine they'll continue putting it everywhere they can. Of course this has its disadvantages over running it locally, but the need for a console for GamePass only seems to be becoming less and less important over time.
@@gracelandtoo6240glad you picked pc, it really is the best of all worlds. . but who the hell would sell a ps5 for an xbox
In my view only Nintendo exclusives, merit the term 'exclusive', as they're real games of a very high quality that actually sell systems. The other 2 should be day and date on PC and timed exclusive on each other. If they ever makes games as good as Nintendo, then they should rethink it. Value/GP, and what will soon be a vast library and CoD marketing rights is what will sell Xbox.

I remember when you first started this series, you asked us if you should continue making it. I'm happy you listened.
Actually Yin represent dark and Yang represent light; so it should be "Bright, Sunny, Utopian Yang" and "Dark, Broody, Dystopian, Yin"
You sound fun...
It is actually an interesting aspect of how people sort of misread the Yin-Yang since they mostly just know it from pop culture. Both not understanding nuances in it (... Not that I'd claim that much of a deeper understanding of it myself) and just... Not having the names for the sections right.

Forever Skies info is wrong, game is still in EA and is planned to release 1.0 this year and along side it the PS5 version. Small whoopsie considering how high quality these videos are, love you shill up 😊 20:44
I was about to make a comment on this myself (:
To be fair, you do release your news updates in the middle of the week; so it’s pretty easy for new gaming items to happen at the same time as your show coming out. It doesn’t bother me though because I will continue to tune in every week
You mean you watch other channels too 😂
10:30 I'm so glad im not the only one that feels this way
I show my wife your content all the time, she wants to try out that Pacific Drive game based on your video. We have been together 15 years and I couldn't get her to play anything but League of Legends. I might actually get to play games with her that aren't toxic. You're awesome homie.
Please cover Gigantic's re-release with Gigantic Rampage Edition next week, its a hidden gem for those who dont know it and it needs all the coverage and traction it can get!
I will and In return please check out Ultros. It also came out last week and not seeing it mentioned in the video was disappointing. Keep spreading the word on hidden gems my friend. Its on us to keep them alive.
I’ve loved watching Skillup ever since he taught me how to play The Division and that’s why I always hit the play “budden” and “choon” in whenever there’s a new Skillup video. That’s how I learn that games like Ghosts of “Sooshima” are good. I just hit the budden, choon in and “BOM!” I get “edjoocated”🤓
I found your channel when you covered D1. I miss the days of playing D1 on a snowy winter night😢
I mean of course games sales are down. Next Gen games have increased in price by 17%. I now need 17% more time to save up for that game, and that’s not including how saving already takes longer from the increased cost of living. I have played games all my life but they are a luxury. For those of us who do not play video games as part of our career, we have less time, less money, and are less likely to remember a game even exists by the time we do have the time or money. I finally got a ps5 for Christmas this past year. It isn’t current gen to me yet, it’s still next gen and I have only the funds and time to play one game in the last two months. I think one of the only ways forward is to lower the prices again if they want to think the game is worth it.
If the games were good that would be fine, but almost anything AAA/$60 has day-1 DLC and/or MTX BS. Skip.
Agreed. I just feel like we are paying more for less game.
I really like how Ralph didn’t push “controversial” games to other staff and bit the bullet himself.
It's logical. The audience here knows and trusts him greatly, whereas if one of the newer staff had said anything at all controversial about S&B or whatever, it can be a flash point.
I would love to see Judd or another dev from Eleventh Hour Games on the FPS podcast to talk about their journey to the Last Epoch launch. They're a super friendly and transparent team, and their story (starting off with some Reddit posts, many of them not even being in the games industry) is fascinating. Anyway, super hyped for Last Epoch's 1.0 launch!
Cheers for another video bub Much love to you, Stew, Austin and Edmond Stay safe and take care folks x
The Dead Cells news is slightly wrong. The original game and its first 3 updates were developed by Motion Twin. The following 22 updates (including the Castlevania DLC) which fundamentally changed, added and improved the game were done by another developer Evil Empire, that split off from Motion Twin. Motion Twin have just been working on other projects all this time, and since they are going to release Windblown, and they own the Dead Cells IP, they forced Evil Empire to stop development on Dead Cells, even though Evil Empire had planned to continue updating Dead Cells into 2025. Evil Empire didn't want to stop working on Dead Cells, Motion Twin just wanted it to stop so there is more attention on Windblown (at least that's the theory, but it doesn't make sense). Because of the disagreement the two studios have parted ways, and the next update for Dead Cells (3.5, which has been in beta since October) will be the last update.
thank you for explaining it.
Yes, good indo. BUT it doesn't change the overall point that 6 years of good content is still 1,000x better than almost everything the big studios have published since COVID, so complaining about end-of-life just means selfish unrealistic-expectations whining.
As always, elden ring DLC trailer will go live today. Thank you Ralph for making this happen.
Petition to rename the show to Last Week in Videogames and to have John Oliver co-host
15:20 The most mild of corrections, but this isn't a Discord message but a message to Phil's Xbox account on the XBOX MESSENGER APP. I barely even remembered it existed until seeing the screenshot. Very silly.
The Day Before and Fantastic bros really are the gifts that keep on giving 🤣

Nice timing as always with the Partner Showcase lol
Phil actuals *says* they do that as well (regarding Helldivers 2). Its in the quote on screen and you actually read it out! I quote "We do the same thing".
Forever Skies is still in early access. They just announced they were trying to do a full release late this year.
Just a light correction, Motion Twin is the Deadcells OG Dev and IP owners but other than the very first drop, all other DLC content on the past years was done through an outsource studio, Evil Empire, so likely it had minimal to no impact on internal resources being shifted towards their in-development title.
It happened again... Elden Ring DLC trailer goes out a couple hours after ShillUp uploads. Classic.

Funny thing about this whole not every MS games not being exclusive to xbox is that effectively makes what they said to those regulators for their Actiblizz merger true where they said new releases would be exclusive on a case by case basis.

Higher ups will never say things that might come back to bite them in the future. PlayStation in their investors meeting also said other platforms. It could include Switch or maybe Xbox or not.

Pentiment was announced for Switch at around the same time this video released, so yeah.
the csi miami drum sting was pure win!

I would honestly be happy if the change in the industry force the big studios to focus less on HUGE AAA titles that take 7 years to develop and more on AA titles that are faster and cheaper to make but can still be extremely beloved by players (and profitable for publishers) when done correctly. Helldivers is a good example ( i know that the development wasn't exactly short) since it's a much simpler and smaller live service compared to others but it's already a massive success and it will continue to generate a lot of money in future years if they give the support that it deserves.
Helldivers is a AAA title
I had to replay the CSI one liner at 19:28 😂
Microsoft wants to leave the impression they are open to share there exclusives but they wont fully commit there best exclusives unless/until Sony also takes a similar position. otherwise it would just be a loss for MS.
With all the talk about Gears going to PS, I honestly wouldn't care too much, but if it meant we got something like all of the Resistance and/or KillZone games, I'd be all for it honestly. Man, I miss KillZone 😢
Can’t wait for the million subscribers video. Hope you put some effort into it!
Bro, battlefront classic announcement literally when this video dropped lmao
The Bungie acquisition always seemed like me that it was Sony saying, “look we can do it too”, but now is regretting that decision. And that’s not really unique, I’m sure MS is questioning purchases like Bethesda given the track record since acquisition.
I still pop whenever I get a CSI meme reference. Good work, Mr. Shillup. 😎👍
I really don’t see a problem bringing an exclusive well out of exclusivity after a year or two

Hi skillup, big fan here. To my knowledge, Ying, meaning shadows and coldness, is normally used to compare to dark and chaotic things; Yang means the sun or warmth and is usually used to compared to good and predictable things. You might have switched those comparisons in the video. Anyways, I never miss a single video you upload. Keep up the good work!
Love watching these vids on fast forward.
In case nobody has seen the Nintendo Direct yet, it's been official confirmed that Grounded and Pentiment are coming to the Switch. No sign anywhere of Hi-Fi Rush though. Maybe next time. But also there is a Star Wars Battlefront collection coming and Epic Mickey is getting a remake. Nice.

Something that would make the switch 2 an instant purchase for me: Full backwards compatibility with the switch and a retention of the docking feature. If i have to drop my library of games in the move from switch 1 to 2 then i'm just gonna keep playing my old switch, but if its backwards compatible then its just paying for an upgrade!
This and expand it to games they keep behind their subscription service (forgot what it's and don't care to look it up) and it'd be an instant seller.
