How to Throw a Gangster Curveball | Trevor Bauer X Marika Lyszczyk

2021 ж. 21 Ақп.
759 594 Рет қаралды

Trevor Bauer walks us through a weighted ball warm-up with NCAA baseball player, Marika Lyszczyk and finishes off warm-ups with a fielding drill to prepare for the curveballs. They take to the mound to work on throwing and take a video to see Marika's biomechanics. Once they get the body positioning set, Trevor explains the 3 keys to his gangster curveball: 1. Stiff wrist 2. Cut the ball in half 3. Shoot like a gangster.

  • 12:58 I wanna see Trevor back in the MLB so he can preach these sorts of pitching techniques to anyone and everyone that will listen. He's not torquing his elbow, he's not flicking a wrist, none of that. He's letting the grip and technique do the work. This is why you'll still see Trevor Bauer throwing gas and some nasty curveballs 10 or 15 years from now, without needing Tommy John surgery or any other serious injuries. His technique throws great pitches, and also prevents injury. It's great, more players should learn this way!

I assumed you had to snap your wrists to get that spin.. of course its way too late to make a difference for me.. lol but i just always wondered how to correctly throw it. My dad pitched in the minor leagues in the Phillies organization back in the 60s but he never really taught me. He would say it was like the action of “pulling down a window shade” i can see that now, but didnt explain what to do with the wrists and hold the ball.. but now i know. Trevor people dont know who you are. They assume.. for you to do videos like this for the fans is such a big deal. Thank you man.. even for a man long since his prime learns a lot from your videos.

    • He's happy for him. His smile as he said, "this is where I live". Satisfaction on his face! One of the only times he let himself go, otherwise it's the business of learning. Serious learning. Hey straighten up over there. I will make an example of you.

  • Hiya Trev, I love how you are going deep into skill acquisitom with the internal vs external focus and cues! Watching you coach is also crazy because a lot of the stuff you do lands squarely within the Constraints Led Approach to Skill Acquisition which is a new way of looking at the world that I think you'll love! I would highly recommend checking out Rob Gray if you'd like to learn more, he has the best podcast out there (The Perception Action Podcast) when it comes to this stuff and is super highly respected. His sporting background is also in Baseball and has published a lot of scientific research in baseball.

  • Who needs a MLB pitching coach when you have Coach Bauer on your staff?! One of the intangibles provided that was overlooked.

    @NYCSandman34@NYCSandman343 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah he's known for basically coaching the entire pitching staff wherever he plays. He genuinely knows more about pitching than damn near anyone. Maybe 2nd behind the guy who fixed Nolan Ryan's throw and made his last years in baseball his most successful, with the least injury. And that same coach also taught Tom Brady how to throw better too, in a way that reduced the chance of injury while also being a better, stronger, more accurate throw. Brady saught him out because he's so well known amongst athletes. I can't remember his name but there's a GQ video on KZhead about it, if you search for "the coach who trained and fixed nolan Ryan GQ" or something and you should find it. It's just as fascinating as this Trevor Bauer video although it's more about his history than the mechanics of baseball. But yeah he has a pitching school now where he trains tons of people

  • I'm struggling with when to pronate. Does the precise timing matter? Is the point just to avoid supination, so the ball rolls forward with a natural follow-through? Also, how tight should the grip be? I'm getting good results, but not consistently. I don't hang it much, but I spike it a lot. They told me to miss low.
